It's LIke XCOM, But With More Sparkles -- Henshin Heroes & Heroines HQ Quest!

[X] IT'S TO BE EXPECTED – Yeah, sending her to fight the head honcho probably wasn't the best idea. But, she did capture the ship, and that's no mean feat. She may not work super well on the front lines, but she's still valuable.
Yeah, the fact that we're sending Subaru into direct combat is down to how thin our roster is right now. Having her sneaking around stealing spaceships seems like much more her style, so let's see what we can do about having her do more of that sort of thing.

[X] ORDERS ARE ORDERS – Sometimes, you have to do something unpleasant if it's for the greater good. If you make the call, then he has to trust your judgment and follow through. It may not be fun, but it has to be done.
Hongo is the sort of person who won't order unnecessary killing, even of xeno kidnapper probably-slaver scum (apparently, grumble). That being said, it's another thing to order some necessary ruthlessness in the heat of battle. If there really is a war on, it's important to see our orders followed - and we should work on our rapport with Shineon to make sure that trust is ironclad. Rule 1 of XCOM is that missions fail sometimes, and you have to know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em, and sometimes you have to shoot the Dark VIP.

[X] YOU DID FINE – He seems like the can handle himself in a fight, and sometimes a bit of recklessness is useful in the heat of combat. Let him be a manly man. Hot blood and guts, etc.
Enthusiasm for the mission is the exact opposite of hesitancy, however! We should encourage being gung-ho about fighting for Earth. ...rule 2 of XCOM is that there's always a sacrificial lamb.

[X] DON'T BE TOO HARD ON YOURSELF – Hey, this was her first battle, and against an alien menace no less. No point in getting stressed about her first big fight. She'll get better.

Tutorial - Combat Pt. 3 (Time Until Incidents)
+ TUTORIAL - TURNS PT. 4 +

Well done with the first battle. Your Heroes and Strike Team have foiled the Forces of Evil for now, though not without cost.

Now the game really begins.

After this point, the Forces of Evil will know of your organization's presence and will begin moving to put their plans into motion. Attacks will come randomly, and won't be limited to a set pattern. After each Incident, the QM (which is me) will secretly roll 1d6. That is how many turns you'll have until the next Incident. For example, if I roll a 3, then you'll have three turns until the next time you'll have to fight the Forces of Evil.

Right now, you don't have any passive forewarning as to when the next attack will be. However, Sector IV's INVESTIGATE action can help with possibly predicting Incidents depending on how well you roll.

In any case, good luck. May the dice be in your favor.

Would you tell Batman not to punch Darkseid? As a Henshin, Pleiades is significantly more durable than Batman, and with any luck we'll be able to get her gear that's got ULTRATECH, MAGIC or something else to give her a leg up on things. We didn't recruit her just to be a supportive character. That might be where she's best, but she needs to also be prepared to punch the big bad when she has to.

[X] IT'S YOUR CALL – It's not your place to argue ethics for Hikaru. He's the only one who can make the final decision on whether killing is right or wrong, but you trust his judgment, even if it goes against your orders.

I'd say a little encouragement is in order here. Shirai might not have done amazingly in combat, but she didn't do poorly either, and it's not as if all our enemies are going to be armored alien swordsmen that breathe exploding bubbles. Plus, she did just level up and get a combat trait.

[X] ORDERS ARE ORDERS – Sometimes, you have to do something unpleasant if it's for the greater good. If you make the call, then he has to trust your judgment and follow through. It may not be fun, but it has to be done.
I'm still conflicted on this vote, but I think it's probably better to at least lay the groundwork for being able to give kill orders if necessary. It's not as if we don't already have people with guns going out and shooting the aliens.

[X] YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL – Yeah, he needs to learn to fight smarter, not harder. He got lucky in this fight, but he needs to learn to work with his teammates and practice more. Friendship and teamwork and so on.
Honestly, I don't think Touma really did anything too problematic this fight, but teamwork is a skill we're definitely going to want everyone to have.

@PurpleProse
Do level-up traits follow some kind of preset tree, or is it based on what specifically caused the level-up? (I.E. "Pleiades gets Fighter (weapons) at level 2" vs "Pleiades gets Fighter (weapons) because we put her through Sector VII bootcamp and then sent her into melee with the Big Bad" )

And given that Landcrasher is a vehicle, could Gunleon theoretically just drive it to the Incident site instead of riding in the vans so he doesn't need to spend an action on summoning it?

@NyxNull Level ups follow a preset tree. Training can give Heroes additional Traits on top of what they get from the level-ups.
Also, re: Landcrasher. Yes, he can ride it to an Incident. However, using it in the middle of an Incident is mechanically separate from using it outside of it, just for the sake of balance.

Chapter 1: Turn 5 - BP
"It's to be expected, I suppose." You sigh heavily. "Sending you into a head-to-head fight with their commander probably wasn't the best option, but we're a bit stretched thin. However, you did secure the ship, and that's no mean feat. If it weren't for you, there's a good chance they would've escaped."

Subaru considers your words, then nods. "I suppose you're right."

"Look, you may not be the best fighter of the group, but that doesn't mean you aren't valuable in your own right. Just focus on improving yourself. Let me handle the rest."

"I suppose some extra training wouldn't hurt," Subaru says thoughtfully. You can already see the wheels turning in her head.

Subaru remains lost in thought as you continue the debrief.

(When you next attempt the TRAIN action with Subaru, the roll gains Advantage.)

* * *

"It's your call, Asahi-san," you reply. "I'm not in charge of deciding the ethics of things. You're the only one who can make the decisions on whether killing is right or wrong. But I'll support whatever decision you make."

Hikaru blinks owlishly. "Really?"

"I'd be a fool if I didn't trust the people in the field." You hold up a hand as he begins to respond. "But just remember; your gut decision isn't always the right or best decision. If things go wrong, it's your responsibility. Do you think you can handle that?"

Hikaru looks down, fiddling with his fingers for a moment as he thinks. After a few moments, he inhales and meets your eyes, then nods. "Y-yes, ma'am."

"Alright. Now, let's go over the rest of the debrief…"

(Hikaru will remember this in the future.)

* * *

"You need to be careful, Itagaki-san," you say firmly. "You got lucky this time around, but you need to learn to work with your teammates. Fight smarter, not harder."

Touma grimaces. "No offense, boss, but I'm not good at the whole 'smarter' thing. I'm a simple guy. I shoot bad guys and run them over with my motorcycle. There ain't a big need for strategizing in all that."

"I call bullshit on that," you reply firmly. "I don't know how long you plan on keeping this whole façade up, but I don't think you're that stupid. If you were, you'd be dead by now."

Touma gives you a sullen glare, then exhales through his nostrils. "Alright… whatever you say, Boss. I guess I can work on tactics or something…"

You idly wonder how old Touma actually is as you continue the debrief.

(When you next attempt the TRAIN action on Touma, he will gain an extra Attack option.)

"Don't be too hard on yourself, Shirai-san," you reply. "This is probably the first time you've had to do something quite on this scale, so there's no point in getting stressed about it. You'll get better at it. I mean, I doubt everything went perfectly when you started out as a phantom thief."
Are you sure this is right? We had to choose between "Don't be too hard on yourself" and "It's to be expected", and we voted for the latter. But this sounds like the former.

@PurpleProse When are we going to have the opportunity to expand our base, or spend Favor? We're almost full on Favor and have way more Resources than we can spend.

@NyxNull and @Derpmind Please note that you have to select two DIFFERENT actions for Sector I. You can't select the same action twice.
As to expanding the base and spending Favor, don't worry. Those are mostly Event-related (though at least one of the items you've collected will leade to a Base Enhancement). Also, please note that Favor is your base's 'Social HP,' so spending it isn't exactly a good thing.

If we're going to give Shineon latitude to act independently in the field, we should make sure we're both on the same page about what that means. Meanwhile, let's nail this interrogation so we don't have the xeno scum hanging around our base too long.

If that incursion taught us anything, it's that we desperately need to upgrade our gear. With all that retaliation damage, better armor sounds worth its weight in gold.

We need to replace the casualties in the Security Squad. We also need to investigate those older magical girls and combo that with recruit. Also combo Support with Sector 2 for possible better odds of success.
