We're not going Tinker so the worst school would do is cut into our training times...which we can just devote mental threads to make it not a waste of our time. Plus socializing with Amy and Vicky!

Only if we absolutely super care about training times and getting to sit at the adult table.

Meh.

So...blame the PRT for shit that isn't their fault? They came down on Sophia like a sack of hammers the very moment they found out, so it's not like they were covering for her. And I bet that Blackwell and the handler are going to see rather extensive jail time, plus they're being up front and honest so by all accounts they're trying to do right by us.

Just not feeling this option. Maybe if we had more Kimbery never forgive, nevar forget charms, but we don't, so it's not particularly in character.

I'm sure we can come up with something good. I'm partial to Pyrrha aka the name of cross-dressing Achilles, which has a nice bonus of being close to the actual SWLiHN name. Also because we're shaping up to be a combat monster so fem!Achilles is actually rather apt. And Pyrrha is also a nice shoutout to Annette, who would appreciate the literary reference.
Also, Achilles commanded the Myrmidons, ant warriors, which fit both Taylor(for obvious reasons), and SWLiHN(perfect morale, little self identity, great formation fighters). Plus, you know, the Whispering Pyre.

I'm not sure you really get what it means to play an Infernal. If you're not flying down the highway to hell at ludicrous speed, framed by green explosions, with a harem of nubile mutants fawning over you from the shotgun and passenger seats as the speakers blast Mercyful Fate, Overkill, and Amon Amarth at full volume, you're doing something wrong.

Trying to white-knight our way through the quest will make this whole thing waste of time and effort for everyone involved.

Edit: That was exaggerated for effect, but seriously. We aren't a Solar, or a Sidereal or even a Dragonblooded. We don't have the luxury of being able to do everything the nice way, the PR-friendly way. Instead, we have the opportunity to slide right down that slippery slope and enjoy every moment. Let's take it.

Memetic mutation aside, there are other correct ways to play an Infernal than Grand Theft Yeddim.

Heck, you can (and I do) make the argument that more than any Exalt type, what makes Infernals distinct is that they're losers. Every last one of them has, when it mattered most, failed to measure up. I mean that literally. To qualify for Infernal Exaltation is to have failed. To have known loss. Every last Infernal exaltation is a second chance. That fact gives them a perspective other Solaroids generally lack.

That? The fact that they aren't the Perfect, shining unblemished ultimate heroes? That's why I like Infernals. I have trouble wrapping my head around a life without significant failure and setback. The kind of certainty and perfection Solars represent? I can't wrap my head around people like that being anything but monsters.

Honestly, I've known one exception to that rule when it comes to that sort of person.

Joining the Wards seems our best way to keep our promise, stay save and learn the Business.

On the long term she might see that the heroes are not really making things better, just trying to keep them from getting worse and then take her own territory to improve it.
But for now she just isn't there. Not in abilities and not in mindset.

No. I implicitly understand that being Infernal is an inherently transhuman endeavour and that true power means growing in that are different than the human norm.

What you do not understand is that to be Exalted no matter what exalted is to have Volition and freedom and the ability to choose. This is the absolute core and cornerstone of the Exaltation for it is the only way that they could serve their purpose. You will is free to choose what you want and suffer the consequences.

There is no such thing as a villain splat. The Solar can become as death, or become and akuma and serve the beings his shard was designed to obliterate. The Lunar can embrace the wild and hate their mate. Sidereal can ignore his fate and his duties and actively work to erode creation. The terrestrial can turn on family. Even the Abyssal can defy death lord and overcome resonance if they have the will to go beyond the consequences.

The Infernal is no different. They can deny the call of the Yozi, they can slather bars on their prison, they can even break off their shard and become a Primordial, and above all they choose how to interact with their power.

Just because we are infernal does not mean we are irrevocably doomed to become a monster, or that we have to slip down the slip slope. That we can study and manipulate the rules and the Yozi to become whom we want to be and not what they want us to be.

We can become a hero the creates businesses and inspires hope behind the scene. We can become a monster who ignores that people are people and moves them around by whim because it is convenient. We can be measured crossing lines with awareness to get the most good for the least tresspass.

We can do all these things. That's the fucking point. However what we chose to do, and what we should, those are the dilemma.

I do not want Taylor to become a person who casually scapegoats others and get away with murder and severe abuse just because she's pretty! I do not want her to be a person who thinks that is right. She despises those people and has suffered because of them.

That is my decision. This is what I think Taylor would agree with full clarity, thus it is what I stand by IC and condemn your choices with. That is how we are supposed to play as Taylor Hebert choosing whom she will become. That is why we cannot use Cecelyene's power despite the fact the being a Genie will solves a lot of fucking problems. Taylor hates her and doesn't want to be her. So she won't.

At her most elemental, Taylor Hebert is a young woman with an overdeveloped sense of her own responsibility (and through that, of guilt) and an uncompromising desire to do what is right, no matter the cost to herself, so long as the people she cares about aren't hurt in the process.

Here's a question:
Will Taylor make for herself an Exalted style name?
Something like Enduring Order Administrator, but with a more Infernal, less Alchemical, bent.

Just imagine a Primordial named Taylor.

Careful contemplation seems in-character for this Taylor, so these are my suggestions for stunts. Any thoughts? I wasn't sure if that last one should go with "[ ] Umm...Any Suggestions?" or "[ ]Sir Name Not Appearing in this Update", but I'm leaning towards the latter, since it would include both asking for advice from several people and checking online.

It sounds like we're staying here for a while, so we can do the introductions when it's convenient." Piggot nods sharply, and you can feel Armsmaster relax his posture slightly. Was he expecting you to rush out and hunt down Sophia on your own? Suddenly, one of the mental subdivisions finishes processing something Piggot said before your world crumbled. The distraction is welcome. "Wait, you said that Sophia escaped when the E88 freed Othala and Rune from a prison transport. Why would you put a black vigilante in the same van as criminals from a neo-nazi gang? Especially a high-value target like Othala? Sounds like someone dropped the ball there." The part of your mind that pays attention to such things notices a barely suppressed twitch and you're pretty sure that the Director agrees fully. Based on her scowl, someone is going to lose their job over this.

Talk to dad, look up what PHO is calling you, ask the non-Clockblocker Wards for suggestions, check what Victoria and Amy think, see if the PRT PR folks ("We have PR to the T!") have any ideas. Oh, and Uncertainy, of course. He deserves to have a say in all this. And who knows, maybe inspiration will strike after power testing. These powers can't be that hard to understand, could they?

I'm loving the liveliness of the discussion! <3 you all and thanks for continuing to read and participate in this!

I plan to open the voting tomorrow at Noon.

Hmm. Upon further consideration, I'm actually rather vehement opposed to any choice that isn't coming up with the name ourselves because it's basically just the thread throwing up its collective hands, going, "I can't into creativity" and shoving all the work onto @Thief of Words. She's too busy writing awesome stuff, maybe we should put our brains to work. It's not liek there haven't already been several good suggestions for names.

I'm pretty sure those suggestions are going to make it into the story in some way. @Thief of Words has probably already collected them in a list and we'll see them brought up by various people we talk to when it becomes time for the cape name vote.

Since I have am of the belief that if you have a problem, solve it, and I like the independent option, I came up with this 'plan' sort of thing.

Crazy independent plan:

What do we need?
-Allies
-A way of communicating with said allies
-A plan for the organization (basically what are we trying to accomplish, and how will we, generally speakings, go about accomplishing it).

-For getting allies, it was stated earlier on that Brockton Bay had a rather large number of capes and an unusually high number of capes per capita. It would hard to believe that there aren't any independent heroes that aren't part of the Protectorate who we could approach. Browbeat was one such, and if she didn't have a PR problem, Purity would be one as well. This may require OCs if we wanted to go this route. As for how, some of them likely have a PHO presence, and we could start having one of our own. We also have a certain amount of street cred; beating Oni Lee tends to do that (the public doesn't know about our second encounter). If we really needed it, we could try to figure out where other heroes were active and approach them that way.

-The reason communication and organization could be difficult is if we wanted to have a common meeting space. Unless someone had the space or was willing to let us meet in there home, we would have to procure a hideout of sorts, not at all dissimilar to a supervillain lair. The first has the hazard that it could compromise our CIDs. I know that the unwritten rules say not to go after capes out of costume, but rules only work if people follow them, and not all capes are so scrupulous. The second has the problem that we would have to find or procure the darn thing and, admittedly, I have no idea how to go about doing that. Maybe some IC research? That said, actual communication could be carried out with cell phones and the internet, so that part wouldn't be too hard.

-This is the hard part because there is, objectively, no right answer. The main thing here is, the Protectorate exists, but there are heroes, and if we are taking this route that includes us, who didn't join, so why is that? Why doesn't everyone join the Protectorate? My best guesses are general distrust of authority, an increased desire for either personal or operational freedom, or they just aren't that serious about it. This last one is basically what happened to Browbeat. The question then is, why aren't we joining the Protectorate? If we aren't joining because we don't trust the Protectorate to do a good job of keeping people safe, what will we do differently that will give people more reason to trust us? If we aren't joining because we want more freedom, what do we want to do that the Protectorate does not do or would not let us do that we think is worth while? The last one doesn't apply to us as it is being presented right now, so if we choose to go independent, it is because we turned down the Protectorate. Whatever our reason, it will come to shape the organization and all aspects of it, so this isn't a question we should take lightly. That said, it is possibly the most important question we can ask, so it is definitely worth our time.

I, for one, am in favor of going independent in part to keep the Protectorate honest. Right now, the Protectorate has a monopoly on justice, and by and large, monopolies don't improve or change their ways because there's no one around who can call them on their faults and make it stick. If we got to the point where we became a threat to the local Protectorate's ability to recruit new capes, they wouldn't be able to let little things, like we used to be, slip through the cracks. We wouldn't necessarily be doing it out of any great dislike for the Protectorate, but rather because we want things to get better, faster for all of the people of Brockton Bay.

Also, and depending on how much Taylor knows about economics and sociology this may or may not be an OOC reason, but as Songless said in Revenant, "You can't solve poverty by shooting it with lightning, feed the hungry with forcefields or punch people into employment," and, Protectorate focuses on lightning, forcefields, and punching people.

I wouldn't have put it up there as an option if it was going to be a chore. I do have some thoughts.

I haven't formally compiled the list, but the names players suggested so far are still in the thread.

The way I saw it, going PRT is the more Pyrian response. She thrives on structure, specifically structure she ISN'T on top of, and her charms reflect this in some ways.

Malfeas? The King, like the Cheese, stands alone. He thrives on doing what is his will and letting others follow his orders. That's more the "form a new independent group."

As to the bit about lightning, forcefields, and the underlying motivations of crime? Taylor only has the pieces of that puzzle and the intelligence to solve it. She hasn't ever actually done so at this point.

Plus that'd actually be more a Rogue's attempted approach...to fix the society rather than the situation (or try, at least).

Either way:

I've made some minor alterations, but I think I'm happy with this now.
Hmm. I like the stunts associated with both options, but at the same time I think the second one needs a bit of a change, specifically the PHO part.

Quick heads up @Ashmaker , you left out the second t for Uncertainty.
Noted and fixed. I forgot she had already seen her PHO name.

You can express distaste for a character without being this toxic about it. Rule 3 violation.
I had to stop reading. Your characterization of Taylor is spot-on.

Problem is that I despise her character. By actually having her personality be canon-compliant, I gave up on the story.

Never have I encountered a fictional character I find more reprehensible and disgusting than Taylor.

Such a fucking shame most on SB are bullied whiny weaklings that LOVE to read about the 'suffering' they and Taylor supposedly share. Ugh.

Very well written. So much whining, angsting and crazy paranoia from Taylor. Very fitting for trash like her.

Oh, I hurt someone's feelings by calling you weak? Well, if some random internet tough guy get through your 'skin' like that, then that's what you are. Weak and emotionally vulnerable. Grow up.

Um. Thanks for the compliment. Sorry you are sufficiently masochistic as to be drawn to fan fiction of a setting in which you despise the main character. Please refrain from straw-manning the other posters and name-calling, it's childish of you and adds nothing worthwhile to the thread.

I'm sorry to hear you can't stand to keep reading, as I'm always sad to hear that someone is done with the quest, but it's your prerogative not to read things that quite evidently leave you livid.

Perhaps if I write something not Worm-related or not Taylor-related in the future, you might decide to read it. You might not, given your stated distaste for the weak and broken.

I admit I personally find weakness more compelling than strength, emotionally speaking, but then, my life has largely been filled with a long succession of broken people, so I have my reasons for that, just as I'm sure you have your reasons for your contempt for the same.

More seriously, you're being childish and very disrespectful to your fellow posters. For someone talking about "growing up" you're behaving like an average highschooler who needs to prove he's a big boy.
