Training MA charms is a physical action so it'll replace training up Death Dealing Journey. Just so people are aware.

I'm OK with switching it up, but @veekie had expressed a preference for the latter.

I'm just deeply uncomfortable with letting our headdemon decide how to spend our XP.

That alone would make me want Death Dealing Journey over the Five Dragon charm.

It is wise to not be overly reactionary. Getting MA charms is going to be done sooner or later (I'd prefer sooner, otherwise we've somewhat wasted the XP spent thus far in Martial Arts dots), and staying on good terms with the being that has relevant info on what we've become and what we can do seems like a good idea to me.

Overly reactionary. Maybe, though my idea of overly reactionary would be using Freedom Lets Go on our Dad-intimacy because our relation with Danny is forcing us into a team.

This is more prefering one playstyle over another.

I'm not really against the charm, just against letting Uncertainty with his already existing advantage in knowledge get more power through a teacher-student relationship instead of a headvoice-decider one.

Yeah. Because who'd want to put trust into a being who literally will share any misfortune, hardship or death with you? He certainly can't be trusted to have your best interest in mind.

I fully trust him. I don't want him to make decisions because every one he makes is one less for Taylor and with that the voters.

As I said, a matter of playstyle.

Only partially at best. Being doused in Thermite while out alone tends to make one think "Y'know, maybe I should group up with others so I'm in less danger." (provided they survive the experience at least)

Please don't deliberately buck IC influences and patterns for OOC ideas about restriction of choice. Uncertainty has no ability to decide what Taylor will or won't learn. He just makes suggestions; she decides whether or not to follow through on them. The players make that decision through the lens of Taylor's perceptions. Failing at that, then I will make those decisions through the lens of Taylor's perceptions.

What you are proposing is the one thing most likely to cause restriction of choice, because
if people metagame that blatantly with any real consistency I will stop permitting experience votes entirely. Your playstyle choice will have the opposite of its intended effect, and I am explicitly telling you so in order to prevent any misunderstanding on the subject.

The player paranoia-spiral goes nowhere good. I am telling you to nip it in the bud. Attempting to isolate Taylor from any influence on her thoughts, opinions, decisions, and actions but herself and the players is extremely unlikely to be a valid strategy for survival, much less for success. In fact, it is more likely to get her killed.

That way lies Malfeas. And remember: the key fact about Malfeas? The single most defining feature of his existence? He is a failure. He was the principle of Sovereignty, of self-sufficiency. And not even that was Sufficient alone. Even Theion required his servile host. Alone? Isolated? He failed.

The Exalted, by contrast, were made to be a society, an army, a group. They were meant to be cogs in a grand machine. The gleaming key components of the machine, certainly. But without even the basest of replaceable earthen parts the machine would not function for long.

No man is an island, entire of itself. Not even a High Essence Infernal. Well, except perhaps in the most literal sense.

New plan, this one with 100% more magic kung-fu action!

[X]Plan Conjoined Coadjutor

-[X][Physical]Five Dragon Claw
-[X][Mental]Joy In Violence Approach
-[X][Mental]Tomescu Flesh Extravagance

So this plan has us not panicking quiiiiite so much. We're still focusing on charms that will be useful in combat but the emphasis is making Taylor a better combatant instead of doubling down on all the defense. Here we see Taylor deepening her relationship with Uncertainty, in addition to treating him with respect as a Sifu we're also getting a bit of bleedthrough or whathaveyou from our fourth soul. And while, yes, we will be grabbing soak mutations, the big thing about Tomescu is that they totally wreck face in combat vs multiple opponents (Tomescu have a natural counterattack which is very, very good). Hence TFE.

I like the thematics of this, so I'ma gonna put my Xs in.

Hm. Not a big fan of mutation based charms, but Funky's reasoning makes sense both OOC and IC imo, plus we begin the path the magic kung-fu. Sooo:

I on the other hand want to take all the mutations, because it's something that's interesting

Pretty sure Tomescu Flesh Extravagance counts as physical, and @Thief of Words already said Taylor wouldn't be interested in mutations outside of BRR, unless they were internal.
then why did Thief of Words bring it up in the first place, if taylor wasn't going to get it?

Don't know, but...

Okay...since apparently I need to chime in:

Mutation-wise, she'd be more apt to head towards BRR than CFE. Not permanent, pings off her body image issues (which are entirely still a thing since she's been repeatedly called a monster or inhuman thing since waking up from the chrysalis) less that way.

Which seems to indicate 'not advised.'

I just said her inclinations between the two. There are sufficient IC rationalizations and Justifications for either, so I'll roll with whichever you pick. All I was doing by sharing that info (which was in white text, not QM text) was sharing my thought process on her priorities/inclinations.

Clarification, not command.

P.S.: While I keep working on the update, would y'all like a list of some music that may or may not become relevant to the quest in the next Arc or two?

I'm okay with this plan. When I read "unintended consequences," that translates to "fun times ahead."

The way I see Taylor learning this charm is that it's less a conscious decision and more of an instinctual blending of Essence. So while, yes, Taylor at this point wouldn't deliberately go out of her way to learn stuff that adds more mutations, that doesn't mean that she might not accidentally focus her Essence a little too deeply on Uncertainty while he's enlightening her to the Roots of the Perfected Lotus.

So here are some that have varying degrees of potential or probable chance to be relevant to the near future of the quest.

And a few that already are, we just haven't seen how yet.
