Indestructible Spirit (Kancolle AU)

Unless a challenger appears in the next chapter, you're going to be in the minority pal.
I understand that. I just don't get it: why is shipping so important? Why are people willing to play matchmaker for fictional characters and die on that hill?

Not that I am the one to talk, though, considering that I too indulge in such behaviour sometimes.

check ship to ship combat or one of the other options like Shipping Tropes - TV Tropes TV tropes. that site explains it very well.

I'm actually more interested in the story itself right now. I'm kinda burnt-out shipping-wise. Probably from actually writing my own stuff now. That and seeing people push certain ships constantly.

Of course, it could just be ennui from not having a job.

I'm willing to play matchmaker for fictional characters (because I find it fun and cute) but I'm not dumb enough to die for shipping. If a ship I like doesn't win out, I shrug my shoulders and get on with my life.

I mainly bring it up in Kancolle fics and quests a whole lot because I don't actually have much else to say: I'm not as knowledgeable on naval war as some other people here (although I probably do know more then your average man-on-the-street), so I leave that aspect to them. Still, there are places where I have talked about stuff without bringing up shipping at all. Look at my posts on "Changing Destiny" (one of Skywalkers other stories), you won't find any real mention of shipping there and instead musings about the intricacies of the alternate history that he is forming.

Don't we all? :V

I understand that and agree.

When it comes to my writing, most every one of my stories (okay, probably every one but my Stargate ones) inevitably ends up with at least one pairing. So people shipping my characters is a given.

That said, it's never been the main focus. Those who like to ship can find enjoyment, those who want the story itself can as well. At least, that's how I try to write things.

Honestly, part of it is I enjoy shipping myself. So it tends to leak into my works.

There's also the fact I like the idea of happy endings for characters, and sometime that shoots into romance territory.

And sometimes it's because it's fun(ny) to pair characters together.

So for me, it's a mix of things. Other's may write for different reasons.
