It is, I believe, the only kancolle fic ever where Admiral Goto is played by Mark Harmon. :V

also since I mentioned it before: BAHHSQ Quest; Bread-chan is the main character's in-universe nickname.

And then there's Mandate of the Celestial Empress, starring Foxgirl Princess Admiral Yamato, i.e. my quest. (The late empress was Adult!AL!Nagato. :V)

Thank's for the suggestions. Just a question, is that Anchors Aweigh the same one as on ff.net? I didn't know it has a prequel. I enjoyed it though, really liked the relationship that emerged between Enterprise and the Crane Sisters. Also, is Leave her Johnny a reference to the song?

Haha. I already read the Eternity one. My older brother is on this site and used to be a part of the Kantai Collection fandom until he read Eternity and Things no longer allowed that involve shipgirls and decided to swap to the Azur Lane fandom because he found the stories both horrifying (Eternity) and just downright 'weird' (TNLATIS). When I told him to give me fanfic recommendations, he suggested both and told me "good luck".
 
And if you are looking for the Kancolle fics of a ... lewd nature. In the NSFW fiction section of QQ there is a small humble contribution of mine (it's not dead I swear! My muse got trafficked to Vegas or something and I'm real close to getting it back!) called Tails of the Reluctant Teitoku .

It even has a plot thanks to much help from the Sidestory co-authors.

"Leave Her Johnny" is a song reference, yes. And it must be a different Anchors Aweigh, since Enterprise ends up in a different relationship.
 
i'm with @MagisterAurelius on that story, and much in the same boat, (pun not intended) as my muse is failing to cooperate, especially since i'm seeming to go with one of the more, hard military views

If you're looking for oldies but goodies, I can't recommend highly enough LordK's Ships Log Entries, the fic that really kicked off the whole self-insert trend in KC fanfiction. Be warned, however, you're in for an emotional roller coaster with this one.

Many of the others I had lined up have already been recommended, so I'll slide over to crossover land. His Will Be Done is a fun Warhammer 40k romp, and with Halo there's my own (actually completed!) For Earth and Her Colonies (also here on SV and on FF.net as well), alongside the quite different Rise of Leviathan.

So far as your brother's recommendations, I'd actually say to stay away from Things Not Allowed. It started as a crack idea and was always meant to be that, but took on a life of its own with some people clinging to that for characterization. Considering characterization and nuance were thrown out the window for the sake of funny (because funny was all it was meant to be), it's led to some divisiveness amongst the Fandom. I'm not surprised your brother was turned off by it.

Anyway, I'd also echo Magister's Tails recommendation, only partially because I'm another one of the sidestory authors there :V. There's also Repair Crew Quest on the same forum, that's a nice read as well.

Oh boy. Speaking as the guy who wrote the Things Not Allowed snippets that got big… well, besides what Nicholas said, I ran out of ideas at some point, so be aware that it will get stale at a certain point.
 
Seriously, people talking about Kancolle fics and not mentioning Belated Battleships or Changing Destiny? Considering how long they have been around and how many other stories they have spawned. BelaBatt is dead but has a lot written and is a great way to pass some time, seriously I keep going back to re-read it. Changing Destiny still get sporadic updates.

I would like to speak against the recommendation for Crash dive; As the story goes on the MC becomes more and more a Mary Sue.
Captain on Deck and it's sequel are very novel takes on the whole shipgirl concept and i agree with the recommendation.


I will not just speak against or for however, ill also share some of my own recommendations:

New Ironsides [Kantai Collection], which starts from a similar point as this story but gives us American Kongou instead of British

A Lion in Winter (Kancolle SI), SI stuck in an either North or South Pole region; either way its filled with icebergs.

CC-1 (Kancolle/Kantai Collection/SI), Abyssal SI

Wherever the Current Leads [KanColle Abyssal], Follows a newborn Abyssal who runs away from her Princess
