In Thunder's Echo (Legend of the Five Rings Quest)

We have a high Air ring, so we wouldn't actually be too shabby at dueling. The problem is that our Void isn't all that high.

Either way, it's still probably not a good idea. Considering Ketsui really liked Kimoko, I won't be surprised if she takes the field herself.

Really would have been nice to have the Phoenix on our side right about now, no? @Salt

@Maugan Ra : What are our legal options anyway? Would Lore(Law) help with that any?

Personal theory: You remember Yogo being troubeled? You remember the spirit saying our soul was getting eaten? Oh look, a disaster was waiting for us back here. I am going to guess that being out all day is going to be no proof that we did not do this, right?

There's only one option.

"In 1130 a Scorpion bushi was thrown in a dungeon by the Matsu daimyo for a crime he didn't commit. He promptly escaped and went underground. Today, still wanted by the Lion Clan, he survives as a ronin for hire. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire Soshi Naoto."

You'll have to wait for some more information on what precisely has happened before you can make a Law roll to figure out a solution.

Generally speaking, though, testimony is the core element of Rokugani legal procedures. When two sources of testimony conflict, the one from the higher Status individual wins. Depending on the source of the accusation you can also demand trial by combat to prove your innocence - if you win, then the Heavens have clearly shown that you are in the right.

And yup, this is the bombshell that I've been holding in standby for most of the Quest thus far. It wasn't inevitable, but then you went and got involved in the whole Crane/Lion mess and derailed a carefully planned war by sticking your nose where it didn't belong. That sort of thing tends to draw a response.

The key thing is to find out whose testimony is convicting us here.

We then need to:
- "find" counter testimony for a person of higher status, or more people of equal status.
- discredit the testimony, i.e. catch them in an obvious lie or deceit.
- get the accuser to recant, i.e. blackmail, etc.

Well, that was... Yeah.

It's going to be tough finding a way to prove our innocence, given the fact it's the Matsu's daimyo who's accusing us. :\

Not quite. She's ordered you arrested, but that's an extension of her duty as the highest ranking samurai in the place. The actual accusation and such will be relayed to you in more detail later, along with the investigation.

And oh look, you made friends with the local Chief Magistrate.

...I'm so bad with names I'm trying to figure out who Kimiko is, specifically.

That's how much I suck at this :p

I named the best friend/ally of Spring Court Moneyman (Jordan Queensay), Alistair Kingsley. Hold that in your head for a moment, and register that that's the level of 'bad at names so I have to remind myself in his last name about the association.'

That was our batshit crazy awesome boss scorpion lady who's having an affair with the Matsu daimyo.

I will note that I haven't seen any actual votes as of yet. Admittedly the choices are basically protest your innocence, admit guilt (for no real reason, but hey) or stay silent, but wording could be very important.

Wait, sorry, I forgot that technically 'Fight your way out of Shiro Matsu while cold, tired and alone' is also an option.

[X] "Kimiko-sama is dead? What? I- What reason would I have possibly had to -" pause, collect yourself. "I had nothing to do with any such thing, but I will be happy to come along to prove my innocence."

Might as well turn it into a vote.

Also, speaking of possible motives...if she's dead and we're not collared as the guilty party, do we get temporarily promoted until they send someone else along?

It's either you or the Yogo Shugenja related to one of the worst traitors in the history of Rokugan... so it's you.

Well, one thing's probably for certain: Ketsui is too much of an honorable hardass to have murdered the only good fight in the province, especially given that she was her guest.
