"As for Hayate Yagami, she has written multiple papers on dimensional manipulation. While she is missing some of the variables needed for manifestation, she is still significantly closer to 'discovering' magic than any other native of this planet.

We must befriend Hayate before going to Girl Genius.

@curiosity: I absolutely agree.

Neph pushing a little I can understand, observing us is her only form of entertainment, and she didn't go overboard. Nanoha should know better.

"just wandering" as Nanoha suggested would be especially awkward for Jade, which is why I'm pushing for getting the birthday present first.
A goal-oriented outing with Nanoha is fine, a date will bring back the anxiety from early Ignition we worked hard to stamp out.

Keep in mind what we started as:

Jade just isn't ready to deal with this yet.
Use some common sense.

What's going to happen if Jade jumps straight to an excuse like birthday present shopping? She isn't in the right mind to bring it up other than as a blindingly obvious excuse. And not to mention, Sidhe and Agneyasta are both in on this. There's no easy way out other than making sure Jade is in a comfortable social situation rather than an awkward one. And that means letting someone's natural tendencies take charge, whether that's Nanoha being able to drag Jade around (she's not going to be stupid and force romance, you're reading that wrong), or Jade dragging others around with specific objectives in mind, or our literal bog standard New Plane Shopping that Jade will be familiar enough with to do by rote.

If you want to manage how the outgoing goes, don't manage what's done, manage the people factor. Basic lesson from much earlier in the quest when we had to handle depressed scared Jade, but same applies here.

I agree with the analysis. The best way to handle this is to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible, I think that Nanoha knows not to push, and we can trust Agneyastra and Mitra to catch Nanoha if she does slip.
After a suitably long inspection, you turn back just in time to spot a literal sparkle of mischief. It vanishes at one edge of her eye and reappears at the other, possibly hidden behind some sort of contact lenses. That, you decide, is cheating.

"So it looks like future-you is still going to be just as nice as present-you, right?" Nanoha asks with false innocence.
...Well played, Nanoha, well played.

:Citation Needed:

Sidhe might be shipping them, but there may just as well be another reason she bowed out, like Nanoha fabricating an excuse.

Agneyastra's avatar on the other hand wasn't at the hospital to begin with - how is she in on this? Besides, mom agreed to crush Nanoha's crush until we're ready, there's no way she would set something like this up.

Jade dragging others around with specific objectives in mind
Which a birthday present counts as, so I don't see the problem?

She isn't in the right mind to bring it up other than as a blindingly obvious excuse.
Well, I'm also voting to clear Jade's mind with a burst of Blue. What we're currently seeing is Jade being emotionally compromised from channeling Neph, but we can shut that down.

@Alivaril: Actually, can we just clear our mind with a direct burst of Blue or do we have to channel Blue for a moment?

Maybe try to structure it a bit as looking for souvenirs for her family and friends? If she remembers about them, she can't remember about us, right? That's how it works, isn't it? More seriously, I am fine with being pulled along.

The problem is you're missing how we get from A to B. Look at the end of update options - those represent the tone and mindset any vote will be taken in. Any kind of magical assistance, direct jump to an excuse, whatever, Jade isn't capable of it. The correct response (as shown by successfully handling Jade in the past) is to reset to something comfortable and not flustered (or whatever, embarrassed, angry, suicidal, terrified, we've been all of these) before attempting a solution. A natural back off that doesn't risk doubling down on escalating like any form of channeling does.

We did this when we were mad at Sidhe channeling, when we needed to confront Agneyasta, when the time the crush came up the other way... just as a few examples. It works. What doesn't work is pushing.

You mean when we channeled Blue as well and thus were somewhat calmer?
Or the time we let her cry while dealing with a pidgeon?
What doesn't work is pushing.
I really don't understand how clearing your head and deflecting is pushing. Enlighten me, please.

Everything according to plan.
Also, I lied about the dates going poorly. It goes either way and honestly, your relationship is pretty much identical pre and post. Bit of awkwardness with her parents, though.

What a fiend. Neph baited Jade into accidentally asking Nanoha out on a totally-not-a-date, and more importantly, ensured Jade was aware of it.

Also, excellent in-character way of handling not telling Nanoha about the demigod thing yet @Alivaril. Jade's avoiding the topic for now because it's way too embarrassing, especially in the current context.

[] Try to channel White. If White-you is as boring as her color, she won't have the slightest interest in your emotions. Just what you need right now.

Well, that's one way to work in the discussion about channeling new colors.

[] Try to channel Black. Black-you won't possibly be interested in a relationship, right?

Oh Jade, you sweet summer child.

Black may be even worse than Red here, because Black will be completely shameless about pursuing something it wants.

[X] Just point Nanoha in the right direction, or get Mitra to, and let yourself be pulled along.
-[X] Also, the truth. Looking for new magic to study, items both useful and whimsical, maybe a birthday present for Sidhe or not - you have some other half-formed ideas -, any interesting people you meet...

Good write-in, no complaints.

Fairly sure it won't pass the vote, but I'm also fine with trying to channel White if anybody wants to. Curious to see if it will work, and what White!Jade does in a situation like this.

Plus, we're clearly venturing into romcom territory, so might as well play the part by blatantly overreacting in an attempt to keep our cool. :V

This may just be how Jade actually feels, you know. Neph and Nanoha's teasing aside, her
mental dialog certainly seems to indicate as much.
Normally, you don't think it'd be so bad, but your long-honed ability to deny reality seems to have a hangover. Unreliable layabout.
Reality is the keyword here. Might want to re-tool your hypothesis, there.

...What? I said I'd stay out of the parts I'm not suited to handle. Never said anything about not correcting people/pointing out contradicting evidence. I am well suited for that.

See, things like this are why I'm unqualified to handle this. Because I will happily sow chaos for the sake of humor, if in the mood for it. My twisted sense of humor is going to get me in trouble some day.

Lmao

No, I mean well after when we stopped considering modifying anyone's minds. You know, when we told her we'd talk later, composed ourselves, made a plan of what to say, and actually talked to understand instead of pure lecture.

Every color we've seen is horrifically impulsive, blue is no exception.

I really don't understand how clearing your head and deflecting is pushing. Enlighten me, please.
Have you read what we think when we channel? Blue looks for direct controlling solutions. It is the exact opposite of a clear head.

[X] Try to channel Black. Black-you won't possibly be interested in a relationship, right?

I really just want to see Black Jade.

"Sidhe, do you want to go shopping with Jade and I?"

Sidhe's response is both quick and obviously distracted.

"Nope, I'm fine, thanks."

There's a short moment of silence for your plans.

"Have fun!"
*blinks* I'm pleasantly surprised by Sidhe's advances. A few days ago we leaving the plane didn't faze her (although I believed at the time it was because Nanoha was still with her) and now she just saif goodbye without problem.

I guess the Retainer contract helps a lot to reassure her.

... We've seen Red and Blue so far, and Blue definitely wasn't impulsive.

Your emotions are muted, but still present.
Most importantly, you haven't gotten sidetracked into some strange tangent and thus forgotten your current primary objective: gather information on Siofra's curse, and if it's possible to do it safely, free her.
No single action should be performed when you can complete multiple objectives at the same time with less effort spent overall. Sadly, a large number of options are eliminated simply because normal-you would object to them. There is little point in performing an action if it will only be reversed later on.

[...]
Luck should have no place in such a delicate operation, let alone such terrible odds; unfortunately, it's one of the best options you have right now. Simply leaving Siofra for a later date is an even better, risk-free option, but one normal-you may be unwilling to pursue.
Muted emotions.
Discarding options Jade wouldn't accept.
Didn't take any action.

That's what you're call impulsive? *snort*

Besides, I'm not proposing to use Blue for decision making, but a short burst for the emotional dampening.

This may just be how Jade actually feels, you know.
May, yes. But Jade herself wondered whether Neph is still leaking through:
Your precognitive dreams do tend to temporarily affect your emotions, so maybe channeling Neph does as well?
Since Neph commented twice after the channel, it's quite likely she still somewhat affects Jade's emotions.

@Filraen: Oh woe is me, how could you betray our vote? ;)

Thinking is an action. Jade now has memories of herself considering radical self-modification and only holding off because it wouldn't be sufficiently permanent.

You're also assuming that Jade won't do any thinking while channeling. If you want her to clear her mind and meditate, vote for that. Shoving mana into Jade's thoughts and praying she does exactly what you say she will isn't going to do what you want.

So, uhh... I'll actually probably echo what was said above: how come we just go off to shop? What about the guy that met us? Is he coming with, or are we allowed unsupervised into the city? What about people who wanted to meet us, like the rulers of the place?
