Hybrid Hive: Eat Shard? (Worm/MGLN) (Complete)

If she wanted to go for a Russian name I would think she would go for something like Bogatyr or Polianitsa, though I am guessing that the Russian word for Knight/Hero is probably already taken and it would be akward when someone tries to speak russian to her and she goes "uhh?" (EDIT: Though I guess there probably exists a translation spell)

So, for naming. Since it's become such a significant topic in here and all, I guess I can point out the usage sources of the names she ends up considering. As reported by a reference website, combined across all potentials. Not that this has anything to do with why they were potentials, this is information collected after the fact.
English, Italian, Roman Mythology, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian
Huh, so now we are at the start of canon Worm. Barring any major changes as a result of Taylor, Coil should be making his move on Dinah pretty soon, and Bakuda should be joining up with the ABB.
"Any major changes"? Seriously? The giant crystalline funnel at the start of the year butterflied a lot away. :p
Hmm funny thought from what i can gather with gtranslate the canon reason they call out the names of spells is because a triggering command is neccesary to actually trigger the magic so calling out the wrong spell is actually liable to make you accidentaly cast the wrong spell which gives me the funny image of Taylor doing just that and being incredibly confused when it happens. a spell can also be set to trigger by performing a physcial action like taking a specific stance or doing handsigns like in Naruto that Yuuno does at one point.
In the Hex system that's not an issue, at least so far, because you can see it as "Taylor was taught how to trigger spells in the same basic manner devices do". Or at least the way Hive does. It may come up later though. Long story short: Taylor isn't developing a "name/action to spell" association.
What about a Dimensional transference wrapped in a bullet? A bullet that teleports whoever it hits to another world.
That isn't a problem at this point.
Heck, why not just use Belka as a name?
Because if she ever meets anyone from there (she has no clue if that'll ever happen) then she doesn't want to have accidentally pissed off the planet/civilization that produced the Unison device that became Hive in the first place. Especially not because she misused their name.

Well, you got me there. That, plus the constant visits by high level Thinkers/Tinkers, both on and off the books, plus Coil's slow-buring breakdown in the background, likely means quite a few plots have been tossed off the rails. Bakuda might even be a hero at this point, who knows?

Without Maul around to convince her shard to prove it's superiority by reversing effects from other shards instead of merely duplicating the effects? Yeah, I don't see Bakuda being a hero. Not with her going on a bombing spree after triggering.

You're assuming that the particular fairly-unusual interpretation of shards in general (and Bakuda's shard in specific) from another story is automatically a part of this fic's backstory just because they share an author? Sounds like assuming facts not in evidence to me. Also, as the author has already pointed out, the giant crystalline funnel at the start of the story was a pretty heavy storm of butterfly. Everything involved in Bakuda's trigger event may well have played out differently, or not even happened.

Bakuda's bombing run on the collage she attended to is canon. Her shard influancing her mindset is probable. And her having a massive ego is why she triggered after not getting a good grade. Which is in turn why she went on the bombing spree to "prove she's smarter then everyone else".

Belka also means beam in Polish. Beam as in the wooden support.
But now we're seeing the Taboo effect, where a word in one language might be a curse in another.

I think I caught up with the story, which is interesting. So, Taylor and Hive are basically creating a spell system from the ground up, using the small remnants of memory left in Hive to help guide the guess work.

That they managed to skip a lot of the steps would probably boggle the mind of those using Mid Style or Belkan Style, since that is the equivalent, as far as I understand, of constantly using machine code where others use High-Level Programming Languages for their spell crafting.

Yep, looks like what I guessed about what Taylor and Hive are doing is correct, then. The name is even Hex System.

Can't be Odin without crows and a missing eye. Female Odin I can live with, but Odin with no birds and both eyes? Unacceptable.
Hence the need for an overly Chunni eyepatch that's actually a specialized HUD being run by Hive showing multidimensional overlays of the same location for dimensional schenanigans :D.

And once Hive has reconstructed enough spells she could always grab some familiars... And Crows are simultaneously common enough to be unremarkable, highly intelligent for animals their size, capable of flight in animal form without any obvious magic, have good eyesight, and have the potential to be intimidating if they play things up just right :D.

It's ravens not crows:V

On a more serious note Taylor is likely to take something NOT related to a god of some sort, she looks something like a modernised knight.

Hoplite maybe, if we are going for historical names? Hussar, if she ends up with bigger wings? Hector, if we go for myths?

Lol, all names I suggested start with H. No idea why.

Same thing, both are terms for dinosaurs of the Corvus genus, with 'Raven' generally being used for larger members of the genus, but there is no real consistent definition between the two. Ravens are just large Crows.

There actually is a difference between ravens and crows, ravens are larger, have different tail feather structures (wedge vs fan), calls (croak vs caw (though I've heard the crows in my yard speaking magpie and magpies speaking crow so make of that what you will)) and sociological natures (pairs (likely nest mate for young ones and partner for older pairs) for ravens verses murders (aka flocks) for crows), also Ravens are much glossier than crows.

Crows have also adapted incredibly well to urban environments and are found basically everywhere as a result. Ravens are still forest dwellers.

Quick bit of respray and detailing and I'm sure you could use crows as ravens. :)

Also, make sure you've got plenty of crows, so they can do continuous duty cycles, with plenty of down time. While you claim there's only two (named ones). :)

*Shrug* You can say that as much as you like, but the reality is that there is no biologically consistent distinction between crows and ravens, ravens do not form a taxonomic group within the Corvus genus and the term 'raven' is applied chiefly on the basis of size, nothing more.

All ravens are crows, but not all crows are ravens.

I even poked my sister about this, who has a masters degree in biology. Admittedly, she is a marine biologist and not a dinosaur biologist, but she agreed that there is no consistent biological distinction between 'ravens' and 'crows' beyond size, and I can find nothing on the internet to refute that. Ravens are just big crows.
