Should we offer her our scroll contact number? Just, y'know, in case she ever needs anymore tech support?

After throwing away 192k, I figure we might as well follow through and give her away to Keep her stuff bug free.

I'm glad to see the cyberpunk tradition of pissing off the shady international megacorp is alive and well. It'd barely feel like a proper hacker story without it!

This is gonna make our extracurricular activities with Atlas's most secret project even more !fun! too.

And yeah. We might lose almost 200 grand, but being Weiss Schnee's preferred IT tech is a decent consolation prize.

[X] Take your return to poverty like a champ. Fix her stuff up sans spyware and walk. Gain the gratitude of the daughter of a very powerful businessman, at the cost of pissing off the businessman himself, maybe.

wait so ashford obviously knew about the spyware right? Did he assume that we would just shut up and take the money and not erase the spyware, or did he assume we would not find the spyware.
edit: we did not in character know that weiss was in that room hell we had no idea that she was a schnee, so why would he assume we would not report the fact that the SDC was spying on someone.

He probably assumed that we wouldn't notice the spyware. He probably also assumed that on the off chance we did notice it, we'd shut the hell up so we wouldn't lose 200k. Too bad for him that Jaune Arc actually has brain damage principles.

[X] Now... hear me out here. He hired you to fix her Scroll, her laptop, and to keep silent about what was on them. Spyware was never mentioned, doesn't factor into the original agreement. You've done steps one and two, but let's be honest, he's paying you 200 grand for step 3.

Gently point that out to him, and let the implication do the rest. 1d50. Best outcome, you walk out of here with your conscience free, and 200k richer!

The damage is done. Some information, who knows how vital, has already been transferred back to enemies of the Schnee family. Maybe some of it has been decrypted and new SDC employees are vulnerable to a future White Fang attack. We are the greatest hacker in the world so we might as well ensure at least one malevolent person/group is taken to justice. Let's show our AI that they can do good without resorting to violence by tracking down a perp.

[X] (Write-in)
-[X] Plan Bounty Hunter.
-[X] Track down the creator of the virus. Alter current agreement with SDC and offer to serve as an expert witness in prosecution of the Viral Villain. Do not wipe anything because we need the evidence. Negotiate payment.

I'm also kind of hoping that this path could land us work with the Cross Continental Transmit System, with the agency behind P.E.N.N.Y., or military work to improve the cybersecurity of Atlas robots.

weiss downloaded the virus to try and brick her computer. I don't know where your getting the idea that this is white fang related the spyware is pretty obviously papa schnee spying on his daughter.

Lolwat?

This wasn't a targeted hack. The virus that bricked Schnee's laptop was installed by her. There's a slight risk that whatever data was on it was vulnerable, but Weiss's personal laptop isn't exactly filled with the SDC's most secret projects either.

The people who wrote the virus have literally nothing to do with the current situation.

Before I make my vote, I have some questions. What can we - Jaune - actually do with the 200 Grand? What kind of resources can we get with it to upgrade everything we have? And would it bite us back in the ass if we even pursue getting that sweet money?

There's two ways we can get that money. The first is to just do the job they were clearly expecting us to have done. The obvious cost is that this pisses off Weiss a lot, and the more subtle costs are that Jaune feels super scummy.

The other way is that we essentially blackmail the SDC with the recordings we have of Weiss Schnee admitting to downloading child porn and other such assorted awful business. This can burn bridges with Weiss very easily, and will piss off the SDC spectacularly. The SDC is a multi-billion lien international company that's not above doing some really shady shit.

Pick your poison.

Let's align ourselves with the future CEO of Remnant''s largest company.

Look man, I TOLD you about the Jaune-dice.

Leaveoursysadminalone!

You feel a knot in the back of your head again, and you realise that it's the sheer anger it feels for you, and the sudden coding of defence protocols you've learned your lesson about looking at directly as it begins to change, growing slightly larger, darker-
Aww, isn't it sweet? The Process discovered murderous rage. We're going to have to name this Process iteration before long. I vote to call it "Red". It's... perfect.

That's installed? Ah no wait, writer's fiat because this isn't turning into a fight.

Jaune'll bitch and moan about it internally for months, but he's not going to throw a girl to the wolves after talking to her. (He WOULD consider it if the girl herself weren't right there, so... lucky him?)

Hm, neither looks appealing since it pisses off Weiss one way or another. I'll withhold my vote for now. But I'm leaning towards the "take your return to poverty like a champ" vote at the moment.
