THOSE BOTH HELP A LOT YES THANK YOU
You're welcome. Glad I could help.
You reach for it mentally and feel lightning behind your eyes.
LET US OUT PLEASE ITS DARK AND SCARY AND THERE'S NOTHING HERE PLEASE WE HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG HELP US HELP US HELP US LET US OUT PLEASE
Your knees give out first.
YOU CAN'T LET US OUT YET YOU'RE NOT READY PLEASE BE READY SOON
You hear the other party guests gasp in horror, but you don't particularly care, on account of the tsunami of information forcing itself into your mind.
Now with added spaces. Right, anyone know how we help these guys? I'm all for helping them.
The moment you try to reach for it, though, it stops, removing itself from your mind as fast as it barged in.

The sudden reversal is the backbreaking straw, and you give yourself to the darkness at the edge of your vision.
Especially since they cut off the connection to make sure they didn't seriously hurt Jaune while trying to communicate with him.
A+: +7
S: Instant Success, Barring Overkill Opportunities. Then, +10.

Function Coding- A+: You can create Functions from whole cloth, over the course of a few weeks of coding, but by the end, you'll have a Function that can be used by the Transistor, Memory permitting.
How many actions would we need to bring Function Coding to S? The bonus is pretty significant and I think getting it early will pay off in the long run.

Almost forgot. @Prok, if you're done with the poll and want to delete it, then you have to ask a Moderator to do it.

Okay then! Fun little update with a kinda spoopy dream containing a whole lotta subtext. The whole thing about masks though...

Firstly, the Process. We'll get the more obvious one out of the way first, what with the mask that ended up in Jaune's hands, his connection to it, the invisible screamy voices, etc, etc. For anyone who might have missed those...

You stare at the glass eye, and it stares back, something flits through your mind, reminding you for just a moment of the Transistor's... creation.

You reach for it mentally and feel lightning behind your eyes.

Secondly, I'm sure that each and every Creature of Grimm have a mask; made of a bone-like material, or something that looks like it at least. Probably for armour/defence/identification/something else? We know the giant creatures of death and darkness don't use their masks for hiding who they are, but that leads on to...

Thirdly, The White Fang. As I recall, the faces and masks of the Grimm are what the White Fang masks are based on. You know, in a "they think us monsters, we'll become the monsters, let them fear us, I am the night, yada yada" kind of way. Which could then possibly tie back into Creme's storyline with her brother, which is one I'm actually quite interested in seeing more of. You know, besides Ada's storyline, the Dodgy Business storyline, finding out what will happen at that SDC storyline, the Various Dreams, and of course, actually going to Beacon. Eventually anyway.

So yeah. Lots of masks. Lots of possible subtext. Lots of ideas which are probably way off the mark, but kinda fun to think about and to think how they might end up tying in.

And you know what @Prok, I'm super impressed at just how much you've managed to pack in without anything seeming too forced or out of place. There's several different options for the future, all of which seem interesting and unique, there's loads of cool characters and semblances, I'm into the new villain who'll hopefully appear somewhere down the line, with the possibilities of more.... Damn good job!

Now onto voting...

[X] Socialise- Now that you have new friends you don't have to live with, it's time to get used to the task of maintaining those friendships. (Can only be picked once more this week if you wish to avoid guaranteed burnout)
-[X] Ada-... You don't even know where to begin with her, but she genuinely seems like she could just use a friend.

I think after the recent interludes, Ada is the one I'm most curious about. Don't get me wrong, Creme and Lumen both seem to have interesting powers, and options for the future and stuff like that, but when it comes to their backstories... I definitely want to know more about Ada at the moment. Plus, getting to hang out with another sister, eventually anyway. Ideally we could hang out with the others as well, but we most assuredly don't want a burnout, not yet at least.

[X] Code- You are the hermit, destroyer of social lives. Well, your social life, anyway. Coop yourself up, and work on a new Function.
-[X] Cache()- You're not sure where this one came from, honestly. Must've been one of those '4 am and your fourth cup of coffee' Functions. Looking it over, you think it would let you hide the Transistor in a small pocket dimension. As well as, other things, but mainly the Transistor. It wouldn't occupy space, or, actually have mass, but you would still be able to communicate with it, and it would still be able to float and follow you around. At least you can have it around without breaking any laws! Or, at least, breaking a different set of laws. Progress: 250/700
-[X] Ping()- Small, rapid-fire bullets, that don't hit for much, but they hit fast, and they hit accurately. Death of a thousand cuts, indeed.
Progress: 750/1000
-[X] Create a new Function: Mask()

Coding options and powerups = Hell to the yeah. Cache[] is both super helpful and a fun idea all in one, Ping[] is bullet-spam, and I believe from the game itself, which is always a good thing, and Mask[]...

For anyone who's played Shadow of Mordor, and for those who haven't, there's a special late game ability/upgrade for each of your weapons; I'm thinking of the dagger one in particular, though I don't immediately recall the name. It works wherein when you activate it, you disappear into the wraith world, allowing for an unlimited amount of stealth kills before the duration of the ability runs out. If Mask[] as described can be even a poor-man's version of that... I'm mean, is invisibility ever not going to be cool? Especially when fighting through waves of enemies or sneaking past WF guards later in the Creme Storyline.

Oh, and speaking of Shadow of Mordor, I have in fact been working on an Omake (or several) for the SoM!Jaune from the original vote. So, uh, hopefully at least one of those will end up posted over the next week or so.

[X] Train- Swordsmanship, Gunmanship, Athletics, all kinds of things need training if you're gonna be an effective Huntsman. Pick a skill you have and you'll train it as best you can for a while.
-[X] Swordsmanship (Next Boon at C: Style Choice)
-[X] Tactics

We need to be better with a normal sword, and not a giant glowing blue computer which happens to be shaped in a similar manner. Kinda self-explanatory that one. Plus, I'm now curious about this boon - what kind of styles would there be to choose from anyway? As for tactics, well, we may as well boost it while we have the chance. (Honestly, I picked out the other 6, and was happy with those, realised 1 more might be needed, and just picked it after scrolling up and reading some other plans.)

[X] Acquire Moolah- You may not have bills, but some extra dosh never killed a man. At least, the man making it. Take one of the jobs you've found. {Ahem.}
-[X] Software installation- go to a place and install the latest SDC OS on the network, while preserving files and such for transferral. This actually requires leaving your hermit hole. (8000 Lien- timeslot can no longer be spread across several days.)

Yeeeessss! More storyline options! In all seriousness though, I'm actually super interested in what might happen if we end up needing to connect to the SDC network, keeping in mind we'll be preserving files and such. Who knows if we find a virus to keep out, some top secret info of the Machine Variety, etc? Plus, with the SDC being Atlas based and working with Jimmy and the military, we might have a chance of seeing Penny that little bit earlier.

Also, I've only just noticed that the things I'm voting for are remarkably similar to Sivantic's plan. Great minds think alike?

Hanging out with Lumen because he seems cool.
Two swordsmanship slots because we might as well learn how to actually fight, and I kinda want Mama Arc to get more screen time.
One Athletics because it'll be helpful in being less of a squishy mage.
Ping() because it appears to do less property damage than Breach() so it'll be more spammable.
Two Hyper Arcade because it's a good source of cash. And because hey, sideplot.

You note that she has a very... moist way of talking.
...Nerris?

Edit: Fixing formatting, thanks @Sivantic

Writing it like that does not get counted by the Tally. It only shows up once.

If you want two of the same action then the second copy requires a x2 at the end of it.

@Sivantic looks like there's 8 votes for Cache(). Doesn't matter now, but it will as the voting heats up. I'd knock off the top level votes for socialize/code/train as well, viewing them isn't really so helpful.

Ping[] is bullet-spam, and I believe from the game itself, which is always a good thing,
Ping() because it appears to do less property damage than Breach() so it'll be more spammable.
Ping's the worst function in the original game for direct damage, as it can't effectively combo with Mask() or crashed enemies. (it basically PINGS off of anything with a serious HP total :V). That said, it's freaking awesome when used as a Transistor upgrade since it gives extra Turn() time.

If Mask[] as described can be even a poor-man's version of that...
Nope, Mask() turns Red invisible until she attacks. That next attack has a damage bonus that stacks with backstabs and Void()'s debuff, but Red can still take damage when Masked.

Free attack spam is Turn(), hence my glee over Ping().

If you want two of the same action then the second copy requires a x2 at the end of it.
EDIT: whoop, nevermind.

Yes, will do that from now on.

On top of that you can use it to upgrade single shots for massive damage. I used Mask(Cull()) to basically two shot the final boss for every life.

There, cleaned it up a bit, Slice is tied with Mask. We have a max of three functions we can work with so only one can be added, someone needs to break that tie. Go Into Town is still in Seventh with tactics and Software just behind it.

People please keep in mind that we will get burned out if we interact too much with normal(kinda) human beings
You'll get burned out on anything if you do it too much.

Perhaps I should explain- every time Jaune does something, I roll to see if he's going to burn out on an action. I'm not going to mention the dice used until it actually becomes relevant, but burnout looks a little something like this for Jaune.

Essentially, all progress will stall, and all further slotted spots for that activity will become free spots where he's just a couch potato. Social stuff is given a lower threshold because he's still not used to it and it tires him out more.

Pun "Rules as written 3.x is not good" Pun predates Oyasumi Punpun by at LEAST half a decade. Besides, I preferred Aku no Hana anyway. :)

1. APCT was Arc Pyrrha Cream Tessaro. 2. Replacing Pyrrha with Ada and moving Lumen to the end makes JADT, Jadite. Come on, I KNOW you watched Sailor Moon as a kid.
... I'll be completely honest, I totally forgot Pyrrha existed for a moment.

Also, I'm too young for Sailor Moon, it would have finished airing at least a year before I was even born.

Do you feel old?

Also the start of The Masquerade looks a LOT like Hotline Miami before it moves to Payday. Intentional?

The dreams, like actual dreams, are very much up for interpretation.

Take from them what you will.

How many actions would we need to bring Function Coding to S? The bonus is pretty significant and I think getting it early will pay off in the long run.

Almost forgot. @Prok, if you're done with the poll and want to delete it, then you have to ask a Moderator to do it.
I'm keeping it up there for posterity/personal reference. It's not being followed to the letter anymore, nor was it ever followed to the letter to begin with, but it's up there for posterity.

The answer to your question will become clear once I've had enough time to actually write everything up, but suffice to say, it's... going to be a while.

Ah, shucks, you're making me blush!

Honestly, it's just a matter of not making people feel pressured to go through them. If you don't want to deal with Ada's shit until Boriah Lee's knocking on her door, that's fine. If you wanna let Creme deal with her brother on her own, well that's your prerogative!

Lumen... Lumen doesn't really have a story arc to ignore, he's just a genuinely well-adjusted human being with no incredibly depressing personal problems in his future. Honest.

After a quick check among the few friends of mine who still have proper train track braces (poor bastards), the Nerris voice seems to be the norm for most people with a faceful of metal to some extent.

But yeah. Nerris.

Not even intentionally, again, but it just works.

@Prok Seeing as you used a link to Prequel, did you notice that it is updating again?
A friend of mine who watches for updates almost religiously pointed it out not ten minutes after it updated, actually.

Nobody believed him for a full day, it was so stupid.
Prok threw 1 100-faced dice. Reason: don't mind this Total: 75

[X] Socialise- Now that you have new friends you don't have to live with, it's time to get used to the task of maintaining those friendships. (Can only be picked once more this week if you wish to avoid guaranteed burnout)
-[X] Creme- sure, she seems a little high-strung at times, but she's nice enough, and you think she could do with the company.
-[X] Ada-... You don't even know where to begin with her, but she genuinely seems like she could just use a friend.
-[X] Why Choose- fuck it, invite the whole gang out! You're not gonna get any heart to hearts, but friends are friends are friends. Bond as a group.

[X] Train- Swordsmanship, Gunmanship, Athletics, all kinds of things need training if you're gonna be an effective Huntsman. Pick a skill you have and you'll train it as best you can for a while.
-[X] Swordsmanship (Next Boon at C: Style Choice)

[X] Code- You are the hermit, destroyer of social lives. Well, your social life, anyway. Coop yourself up, and work on a new Function.
-[X] Code a Function. (slice)
-[X] Code a Function. (Cache)

[X] Acquire Moolah- You may not have bills, but some extra dosh never killed a man. At least, the man making it. Take one of the jobs you've found.
{Ahem.}
-[X] Hyper Arcade- Go hang out with the shadiest buncha confidence trick scamming crooks, and MAbel, and code mobile games for a living. (3000 Lien per day timeslot = 9000 Lien per week timeslot)

First off I would like to apologise to anyone who actually works in the QA profession (Read: @Tiypo).
Don't worry, you didn't do half bad. Though games tend to be the most 'friendly' (i.e. little knowledge of how programs work, the work hours will be anything but friendly, and other software will net you a better paycheck) to people starting their careers, at it's simplest QA is the scientific process applied to any program or computer; you attempt an action or series of actions, note if you complete the actions successfully, and if you didn't you throw those notes to the developers. Actually looking at the code to find issues is a practice that exists but isn't actually used a lot called white box testing, as most stuff at that level should be caught in code-review but small teams without oversight are prone to ignoring things like that; the really good finds come from gray box testing where you can send the program commands out of order or in a time span the end-user couldn't, strange things that developers don't think about start happening then.

If you want an example for a bug here's one I wrote as a joke for another quest about 2 years ago, the format is essentially stolen from JIRA:

Look I could have said to watch Now and Then, Here and There instead. That one leaves scars.

Also, I'm too young for Sailor Moon, it would have finished airing at least a year before I was even born.
Please, it's not like I watched it until it was years into syndication.

Heh. HahahHAAHAHhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaa.

No.

Look, people who've known me IRL for years ask when I start college, I have the opposite problem thank you very much.

Lumen... Lumen doesn't really have a story arc to ignore, he's just a genuinely well-adjusted human being with no incredibly depressing personal problems in his future. Honest.
....so you wrote actual content for the girls and left the dude to just be a bro. ...And we're supposed to believe this isn't a dating sim?

How could you forget her of all people? I mean really, look at her:

To be fair, RWBY quests that don't lock in a waifu early do tend to devolve into dating sims fast if they let that be a focus. They also tend to be as schizophrenic as twitch plays can get. Like one of the quests I follow, the only reason a vote accept going on a casual date with one of the girls went through was a significant portion of the moderates were willing to cross the picket line made by the coalition of shippers for different waifus when the GM confirmed that the date didn't lock us into that route. The coalition has been around ever since we almost killed ourself trying to pursue Pyrrha* at initiation where every ship group has agreed to help shut each other down if they try to actively pursue any girls.

In case it wasn't clear I'm teasing Prok (hopefully) gently about falling into the grandaddy of all dating sim tropes, not encouraging him to make this one.

Like one of the quests I follow...
Ah, A Knight for All Seasons. Great stuff. I'll vote for Arkos as a matter of good taste but I'd hardly mind proving that there are still Dragonslayers left on Remnant.

Totally clear, but responding to jokes seriously tends to set up for memes.

Hence:

I'm not even 20 and I don't get carded anymore.

By UK law, that means I look twenty-five.

Is it the beard? The closed, almost hunched way of walking? Is it the lack of a will to live in my eyes?

....so you wrote actual content for the girls and left the dude to just be a bro. ...And we're supposed to believe this isn't a dating sim?
I have never ended an honest statement with 'honest.'

Or at least, never a sentence to be taken entirely seriously.

You see this shit?

This is why I'm not concerning myself with shipping in the actual quest, and I'm concealing my own preferences in the interludes by basically picking people at random.

Shippers scare me. Less ammo those maniacs have, the better. At least you lot seem to be of one mind on the matter.

Process/Jaune

You heard it here first folks :V
Basically. It's like Ruby and weapons- while kind of jokey, it just makes sense, more than an actual person does.

-[X] Create a new Function: Mask()
[X] Train- Swordsmanship, Gunmanship, Athletics, all kinds of things need training if you're gonna be an effective Huntsman. Pick a skill you have and you'll train it as best you can for a while.

[X] Train- Swordsmanship, Gunmanship, Athletics, all kinds of things need training if you're gonna be an effective Huntsman. Pick a skill you have and you'll train it as best you can for a while.

[X] Go Into Town- Oh hell yeah, time to paint this motherfucker red! Or, just wander about town, maybe find a bookshop or something, ooh, that cafe you heard about sounds nice... (5k Lien minimum to make Jaune think it's worth going into town. You have 8.7k, and therefore can.) (Roll D20 + 2D6.)

-[X] Software installation- go to a place and install the latest SDC OS on the network, while preserving files and such for transferral. This actually requires leaving your hermit hole. (8000 Lien- timeslot can no longer be spread across several days.)

-[X] Why Choose- fuck it, invite the whole gang out! You're not gonna get any heart to hearts, but friends are friends are friends. Bond as a group.

-[X] Lift()- You realised, with some... a lot... ok, if you butcher the Transistor's telekinesis code, you can... maybe... apply that to other things? It wouldn't be useful for too much, anything much larger than the sword itself is out, but you think you can probably find something for this.

-[X] Slice()- It's like Breach(), a stream of high-energy particles, but more... focused. Instead of a wave, it comes as more of a slice. It's less of a shotgun, and more of, well, a sword-slice.
