[X] Talk, hermit, talk
[X] Socialise
-[X] Why choose?
[X] Code
[X] Socialise
-[X] Ada

Talking is valuable and Jaune has a good team.

[X] Code- You are the hermit, destroyer of social lives. Well, your social life, anyway. Coop yourself up, and work on a new Function. May overlap with jobs.
[X] Socialise- Now that you have new friends you don't have to live with, it's time to get used to the task of maintaining those friendships. I know, I was surprised too!
-[X] Lumen- he seems like a bro. The kind of person you can joke about stupid shit with and just, generally a chill guy.
[X] Acquire Moolah- You may not have bills, but some extra dosh never killed a man. At least, the man making it. Go find a job somewhere.
-[X] Use The Information Superhighway- go and use the internet, as all you youngsters do, to find a job perfect for you. Jobs are less stable, and rarer overall, but they will almost exclusively cater to your talents.

@Prok In regards to the lost Ada omake I feel I should stress that you should always have an online copy incase something like this happens including getting your hard drives wiped/destroyed.

Think it's possible to have posts in a private message to yourself.

I'm not gonna post that picture you posted for me because I don't know where it's from but it describes my mood fairly well.

I want to provoke events, and I also am a firm believer in the merits of applied physical violence. Maybe we can work on a Cut() Function and project a hardlight blade around the Transistor later, protect it from things like that armor.

Really think we should get that healing function done as soon as possible since that's a life saver right there.

Since you moved Ready: Run to the Sidestory tab, do you want me to more clearly mark which parts aren't canon?
Pretty much everything not including Royce and the CCTS is canon, but if you feel like marking out what's canon and what's not, that would be really helpful, thank you!

Wait, what? The fuck did I miss!?
... Shit, I left that in there?

Er, it's nothing to worry about, just something I forgot to delete.

In regards to the lost Ada omake I feel I should stress that you should always have an online copy incase something like this happens including getting your hard drives wiped/destroyed.
The worst thing is, I'm probably gonna finish the rewrite, and I'm just gonna find it in the stupidest place possible.

That's how these things always go.

-[X] Why Choose- fuck it, invite the whole gang out! You're not gonna get any heart to hearts, but friends are friends are friends. Bond as a group.
[X] Train- Swordsmanship, Gunmanship, Athletics, all kinds of things need training if you're gonna be an effective Huntsman. Pick a skill you have and you'll train it as best you can for a while.

Since we've only just met our companions I doubt we'll get any truly deep interactions right off the bat.

Instead, I think it'd make more sense to tie them together as a group and raise our scores with all of them to something above, "Friendly Acquaintance"

[X] Go Into Town- Oh hell yeah, time to paint this motherfucker red! Or, just wander about town, maybe find a bookshop or something, ooh, that cafe you heard about sounds nice... (5k Lien minimum to make Jaune think it's worth going into town. You have 6k, and therefore can.).
-[X] First go to a real library. Computers eat enough of our time.
-[X] Second try to find a graduate or upperclassman Huntsman or Huntress to train with. Consider an apprenticeship. Learn from their experience.

Sorry about the missing interlude, but I couldn't find anything on the Internet Archive. I'm sure a moderator could find it if you give them page numbers and an approximate time stamp.

As for my votes I want to use two slots on Go Into Town. We're more likely to run into an unusual character, it will give us experience for Beacon missions, and I think the two ideas I presented are worth a shot. If Jaune could get some advice from an actual team leader it would do a world of good for his confidence.

the sun blinding you for a moment before the industrial district fades into view.
Good taste, Kimi no Na Wa is a goddamn miracle. JJ Abrams is going to fuck it up and that's killing me.

At the same time, as you think, we simply cannot know.
I'd say Salem would take down two of the four and then get Cream'd. She was in the best shape and the other three were sitting ducks. There's a reason my plan involved Jaune to bait him so Cream to hit him.

"Goodnight, you two."

{Goodnight, Jaune.}

Sweet dreams.

Ok look I will 100% own up to this fuckup here, this is entirely my fault because I tried to do it on mobile, but, uh, the Ada interlude's borked.

In that, it's become the Creme interlude because I wanted to swap them around for the sake of the flow from character to character, I did the same with the Creme interlude except that one didn't seem to stick for some reason, so now I have two Creme interludes, and no copies of the Ada interlude anywhere. Not in google docs, not on my phone's clip tray, it is, nowhere. Apparently, it's the one interlude I finished in a single sitting, so, uh, if someone happens to be keeping an archive of every chapter for personal reading, here's your chance to put that to use.

I'm not even sure how that happened, I distinctly remember swapping them around properly, but apparently not. Great.

Rewriting it probably wouldn't take too long barring personal reasons since the chapter's completely figured out, but if someone feels like saving me three or four hours, that would be great.

Just talk to the mods. All revisions of all posts are kept, IIRC.

Strength- B-. Again, 300-pound computer. You can bench. Not five of you, no, but at least two of you.
Converted, that makes the Transistor 136.078kg. Jaune is at minimum,
150 pounds by that description.

If that B- is in the Olympic range, Jaune is at the lower end of Olympic weightlifters. The men's world record in lowest weight class of Olympic Weightlifting; for Earthlings, is 2 kg more than the what the Transistor weighs. Jaune, is at least in the 69 kg weight class, but it's still for a short lift demonstration.

Olympians aren't lugging that sort of weight for extended periods. It makes sense that Jaune taps into the Transistor's abilities, like he uses it to improve his cardio. It says that letting it run for a while makes him hurt at the end. So if Jaune isn't able to lug his Transistor out of the wilderness, due to a malfunction or extended adventure without special maintenance(not without being easy pickings for Grimm), that's a problem.

If he's fighting people with aura, that can be more of a problem. He'd rely on niche abilities, to counter opponents he may not know the semblance of, which could invalidate some of his combo setups. Using ()turn, would be very risky, if some of his enemies were too spread out, reached him at different times, are just plain better than him, or attacked out of range or sight. Maybe he'd get worn down enough to drag the Transistor around like Red does, making stealth impossible on a mission that necessitates it.
"Sweet dreams are made of this..." Event Roll, d1000: 420.
Dank dreams.

I thought that meant that running long distance while holding the Transistor was tiring because the sucker's heavy, and being able to run a 5k and still be functional at the end, if heavily winded, with a 300 or so pound supercomputer is pretty darn impressive.

Athletics- C+/A-. Turns out having a supercomputer about the same height as you, that you drag with you everywhere? Very conducive to cardio exercise, and your muscles ain't looking too bad either. You could probably do 5k at a decent clip without breaking much of a sweat if you actually let the Transistor go for a while. As it is, you can still run 5k, but you're gonna hurt at the end.

That's a good point. On that "C+/A-"? You've got me wondering if that last line of "let the Transistor go for a while" either means it's abilities are helping improve him, or he literally drops the Transistor to run that kind of distance at a decent clip. In which case, I'm not sure if the C+ means it's his Cardio while he's holding the Transistor, and the A- is because it helps him, or if the A- is because he's just not holding the heavy object.

I had read that passage as, letting the Transistor improve his abilities for a while, by keeping some function running. See how it says "C+/A-"? I'm guessing that the last line of "let the Transistor go for a while" either means it's abilities are helping improve him, or he literally drops the Transistor to run that kind of distance at a decent clip. As I understand it things are something like this:

Unburdened has J-Bro at -A, reaching maximum fitness. This is partly because he's hauling something really heavy around 24/7

Carrying the Transistor, sadly, imposes a hefty debuff on his effective fitness rank because, surprise surprise, that shit's really goddamn heavy.

And now I'm looking forward to everyone's face when Jaune is eventually forced to let go of the Transistor and everyone learns that he can fucking sprint.

Thanks y'all. I'm unsure what would be best right now for Jaune. He's going to Beacon, so would it be best for him to get some money before he attends school, in case his new responsibilities and social life suck up his time? What he needs to build or fix stuff doesn't sound cheap.

Or is it better to train now, so it's easier for him to complete a job later? I'm tempted to vote on training his technical skill of function coding instead of strength. He nearly maxed out his technical skills. I can see that trollface now, from countering the CCT virus that Cinder brings.

Or Mercury Black's prothetic legs forcing him to dance, while his scroll blares.

Oh, here's a good idea for a Utility Function.

Recall(): Enable the Transistor to Jaunt() without you, so it can come back to you.

For when Telekinesis isn't fast enough. What do you think?

"Sweet dreams are made of this..." Event Roll, d1000: 420.
Ha, so this IS what you meant by "going to sleep". Personally I'd have waited set a trigger to go off during the timeskip, that makes Jaune start thinking about alternate, perfect solutions to the Grimm. After all, perfection is a Process...

-[] Creme- sure, she seems a little high-strung at times, but she's nice enough, and you think she could do with the company. Your sisters must never know about this. They will find out over your cold, dead body.
I almost want to pick this twice BECAUSE of what'll inevitably happen--either her sidequest starts or his sisters will KNOW he's with a nice faunus girl. And he can't keep his eyes off her... tail. Yes. Tail. :p (sidenote: Jaune have a thing about faunus? He was watching Velvet pretty closely...)
(double sidenote: Most of Jaune's sisters names that start with "J"? Nicely done.)

... You're going to Beacon.

It just... hits you, that you're going to Beacon. Seven years ago, you never would have bet on getting in, but... you did it!
Forgot to mention that this is a really nice bit. Jaune's on his way, and he EARNED it. He knows what he's getting into--my only knock on canon!Jaune was that he went in as the Naruto for a new generation. Feels good to see him with his eyes wide open.

or bumping into [REDACTED] or [REDACTED] or [HOLY FUCK REDACTED].
Purely for my personal entertainment: Ruby, Blake.... Torchwick? Cinder's in town, but isn't likely to take a walk... ah wait no, Penny. You even mentioned pages ago you were thinking about working her in early.

I want to provoke events, and I also am a firm believer in the merits of applied physical violence. Maybe we can work on a Cut() Function and project a hardlight blade around the Transistor later, protect it from things like that armor.
Proper swordsmanship is inefficient, the Transistor is heavier than any sword ever created, Jaune'll have to practically create a new style to use it. Telekinesis is what you want if you want to hit things with it. After giving it some durability upgrades.

But I have a better idea. See, I was going to use the bonus from the omake I'm writing to push the healing function to beta, but raw exasperation made me decide to pass. Instead... well, who here has played the original Deus Ex?

"The true weapon of a modern warrior, the Dragon's Tooth is not a sword in the traditional sense, but a nanotechnologically constructed blade that is dynamically 'forged' on command into a non-eutactic solid. Nanoscale whetting devices insure that the blade is both unbreakable and lethally sharp."
- Deus Ex description

EDIT: Thinking more practically, just have Jaune write a function that vibrates the Transistor at the frequency of whatever it's about to hit. Seen the old "tuning fork and glass" trick? Yeah. Pop goes the everything.
EDIT2: Hang on that's basically Hokuto Shinken...

Thanks y'all. I'm unsure what would be best right now for Jaune. He's going to Beacon, so would it be best for him to get some money before he attends school, in case his new responsibilities and social life suck up his time? What he needs to build or fix stuff doesn't sound cheap.
Good questions! It's all about opportunity costs I think. What can Jaune do right now that'll be hard to do later? The answer is MAKIN' MONEY. With codan' a close second.

Oh, here's a good idea for a Utility Function.

Recall(): Enable the Transistor to Jaunt() without you, so it can come back to you.

For when Telekinesis isn't fast enough. What do you think?
Mmmm nah. If Jaune has to spend time coding it, it isn't worthwhile, because that time could go to unlocking Mask() or the Process. Just train telekinesis to be faster.
