Hereafter [Worm x Fate/Grand Order]

Chapter LXXI: Pastimes
I'd probably enjoy this more, but Covid 2 Infectous Boogaloo is playing on loop in my body. It hurts my eyes to read, it hurts my back to sleep, and it hurts my throat to breathe, and I've gotta work on my truck today so I can get back to work tomorrow. Hey James, can you see if Aife can punch through a digital medium? I'd appreciate it if she'd take my head clean off right about now.

You know what.
Rika, Ritsuka and Mash begin an investigation to find out if Taylor and Aife have hobbies apart from being hardasses. End up finding them discussing tropes in celtic mythology.
With percentages like that, don't become a fortune teller.
This counts:
"Chaldea has an extensive library, both fiction and non-fiction," I told Aífe. "You could always grab a book and read, if you have nothing else to do."

I half-expected her to scoff at the suggestion, like the very notion of stopping her intensely active lifestyle for long enough to read a novel was ridiculous, but instead, she just frowned thoughtfully. Like she was actually considering it.

"I'll have to see if there's anything that catches my eye," she said neutrally.
You were so mean to me but I was right. :p
Gimmie my medal. :V:V:V
"Bless the cinnamon roll for her courage."
See even the preview thinks I'm brave speaking out about this injustice.

I'd appreciate it if she'd take my head clean off right about now.
What is it with this darn cvd that makes us want to cause grievous harm to our heads? Before I broke my 101+ fever, with a side of mild tylenol od, I wanted to send mine through a wall, any wall, I nearly tried to, too. Hope you get better quick dude, fortunately for me I am nearly okay, enough that I could read and enjoy this chapter today.

On a story note, I think I'm gonna enjoy any future Taylor and Aife library reading sessions, and like what would Aife think of fighting games? Should be interesting, and I'm really looking forward to how Olga and Aife will get along, too.

the harder it got to believe that we'd actually been gone less than two weeks, just because so much had happened in that span of time that it felt more like months.
Taylor, what are you talking about? You are like patron saint of high-tempo operations. This is far from first or second time for you.
like what would Aife think of fighting games?
I think it's be very bland for her. On the other hand, imagine her in Dance-Dance Revolution.

Have you seen some of the recent non TAS speed runs, they require at least a half dozen frame perfect actions to break the game. It's amazing a human can do that at all. Imagine how much more could be done by someone who can easily do that!
Bug swarms and swarm clones inputting five hundred manipulations per second.

QA no slacker, she can speedrun administrating an entities worth of shards, she won't be letting some young punks show her up.

Using QA counts as using a TAS bot, and is therefore against the rules.
Lisa: Taylor, no. Why did you even bully Uber & Leet by... 'spamming bug clones to stunlock Uber in Deadly Conflict IV?' Where the hell did you learn this?!

*Taylor offloading nervous reactions noises*

Taylor internally: 'She must never know Greg Veder got me into arcade games after that one time'

There really isn't much I can say to this chapter except maybe it's the start of them minor singularity supply run. Variety is the spice of life. Just because they're trying to save the world doesn't meant they can't try to retrieve some premium food while they're at it. I'm sure the timeline can forgo a A5 cow or two.
I didn't get the impression that Marie was very good at the 'maintaining morale' part of being Director.
In her defense, girl built herself a cage she couldn't get out of by trying to live up to some stringent self-expectation. She also has some personal issues and maybe an inferiority complex going due to her father's treatment. She is also terrified of Mash, thinking that our Eggplant is going to seek revenge.

I personally can give her some slack on the morale boosting side of things. Let Taytay work on it.

Also she's primarily trying to control Magi, which is like herding cats at best.
When you have a pack of self-motivated sociopaths, it's more "reining them in" rather than "being supportive."

But I also think Romani is overlooking that she may not have been generous in the "let Servants eat" policy, since she's more inclined to demand help rather than encourage it.
She gives "You should be honored to sacrifice for the cause!" vibes.

Romani is mistaking her being a better Director, and more decisive, for making perfect decisions.

I think not having the A team (and the rest of the magic world) around will do Marie a lot of good, all the weight of dealing with people like that, having to uphold standards and meet expectations will give her time to unwind a bit and not have a break down.

Might be wishful thinking, but that part of the reason we are here, besides watching Taylor being Taylor in another world.

Who knows dying, but getting better, tends to be one of those big, life changing events that can cause drastic changes in personality or at least a serious reevaluation of one's priorities in life.

So yeah. Some slice of life stuff to fill out the time between the team coming back and our dearly departed Director making her triumphant return, along with some setup for later things and later reveals.
So I've been following this story basically since the beginning on ao3, but the recent anticipation on Marie being revived has caused me to jump over to SV to reread the story and to try to scrape for extra tidbits in your replies in this thread. One thing in particular that I've been thinking about since rereading is how Marie will process the things that happened to her. While Taylor and the readers have the events at the start of the story far behind us, unless Marie was conscious the entire time in the FATE system, what happened then will have just happened for her. In my reread, I got the vibe that while Marie had a lot of faith in Taylor, her comment about nobody loving her when she was getting sucked into CHALDEAS seems to imply that she doesn't think Taylor likes her or thinks much of her back. I can't imagine Marie will be in a good headspace at all, having just been almost murdered by the only person she thought liked her. I had for a long time sort of assumed that Taylor and Marie would fairly quickly develop a closer bond post-revival, but this recent reflection has me thinking that Marie will need to learn and accept that at least some people around her like her before developing any deeper relationships. Taylor and Marie's relationship has in large part been left in the realm of hints and implications up to this point, with even less on Marie's state while in the FATE system, so my speculation and guesses may be completely off (such as if, for example, Marie doesn't actually think Taylor doesn't like her and I just read into that line too much). Am eagerly awaiting the coming chapters!

Wasn't it implied by both Lev and later on in the discussion of what had happened to Marie in the Fuyuki Singularity that she's fully aware and retains her senses while disembodied, trapped in a state of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream? That's the whole reason Taylor was anxious to get her a replacement body as quickly as possible, because she's worried that the Marie that is returned to them will not be of sound mind, after what she's endured for weeks/months.

On Lev specifically, he said she would be conscious forever experiencing the black hole that is CHALDEAS. Since that was prevented in this story (instead being uploaded into the FATE system), I don't recall any further comments that indicated much about Marie's state in the FATE system besides "being not dead". Taylor does have concerns about Marie's wellbeing in the FATE system, but I think Marie being conscious and going mad if the experience is sufficiently severe is only one of several possibilities Taylor is concerned about. However, I do not recall any comments confidently asserting what Marie is experiencing, so she could be in basically any state of mind when she comes out. I referenced her being unaware the entire time in my previous post just cause I thought it was the most likely (although certainly not guaranteed) outcome.

You know, it really does say something about a situation that essentially being in a coma is the LEAST worrying option for someone's unknown situation. Worst case I can think of is Marie being stuck in a million to one time dilation with nothing to do but reflect, lose memories, and go mad. Considering that this is a story, that also happens to be the least likely scenario because Plot and Tone demand otherwise.

My theory is she got stuck in a Heroic Spirit chatroom. Boring, yes, but there's enough heroic spirits someone's bound to be willing to chat at any given time.

Crossover Time!

Marie meets Servant Taylor and experiences the Gold storyline but is yanked back to Hereafter before she gets turned into an Alien God. She doesn't remember most of it.
