Hereafter [Worm x Fate/Grand Order]

No, she hasn't but then the others don't know that now do they? They are completely unaware that her ability with bugs is not Magecraft, but they should be thinking it is. So here's this random 1st gen Magus able to coordinate trillions of bugs down to the individual simultaneously, which Emiya and Arash have definitely seen because of their Clairvoyance, as have Romani and Da Vinci because of the fact that their sensors have picked it up, and she can can supply two top tier Servants with enough Prana to fight in some extremely high stakes battles at the same time.

Things don't add up, "where is she getting the Prana for that much expenditure during a battle?", "why isnt she dropping over dead when Siegfried uses his Noble Phantasm?", these are the thoughts that should be in people's minds. It's as simple as that, she is performing in their minds an A-Rank Mystery while supplying two extremely powerful Servants, one of whom even uses their Noble Phantasm and it's not a weak one either, but she's not dropping dead when by all accounts to their minds she should be. They should be freaking out wondering if she's going to keel over any second, because to them she's doing the impossible, and has been since the start of Orleans.

These aren't concerns that can just be ignored, they literally have to be addressed because the entire fucking history of mankind is at stake. You don't fuck around in those situations. It can be a "look this isn't me using Magecraft it's something else" sort of conversation, but it kind of needs to happen don't you think? Even if she just says "Please trust me, at least until Marie is back then I'll explain" thats acceptable. But we haven't even had something like that.
Well, while controlling lots of bugs at once is impressive, do we actually know that it would take a lot of prana (as opposed to too much multi-tasking for a normal human)? I seem to recall mind control being relatively prana-cheap in Fate Stay Night. Plus, heroic spirits in general and Emiya in particular are aware that sometimes you get people who just break the rules in specific areas. Emiya may think she has a bug themed reality marble or something.

In any case, I get the impression the twins really would write off anything Taylor does at this point as just her being badass.

I mean yes that's all possible but to do it in the numbers Taylor does to the degree she does is insane. Again they haven't even confirmed that it's Magecraft nor that it isn't harming her. There's been a "what are these radar ghost blips?" conversation and that's it. It's not touched upon "how many bugs can you handle and is it taking significant effort on your part?" which is the biggest concern I can see Romani and Da Vinci having. But again it's not come up, and it really should have by now. It can be a flashback of an incredibly short conversation that Taylor then ponders in the moment, but it really needs to occur, because while Chaldea is understaffed and overworked they are not incompetent.

Though I'd argue that anything less than a good portion of a chapter, or better yet an entire chapter, maybe even three from multiple perspectives, covering this topic is wasting a perfectly good opportunity for character growth.

In all honesty, I'm kind of surprised that Chaldea's sensors can even detect Taylor's power since in theory the process should be entirely non-magical and not have her soul kind of spread out, since that's more how familiars work I'm pretty sure and that could indicate either it's not as simple as Taylor getting her original powers back, or that that was always what QA was doing and it was Taylor's world that lacked the knowledge base to detect it.

Also there's how the simulator was able to make insects that counted as "real" enough for Taylor to control, but really the less you think about that the better.

The simulator part actually makes the most sense considering Shards deal with that sort of virtual environment a lot, and are already dedicated to getting such simulations/predictions/alternate-worlds to be high in their fidelity for accuracy's sake. As for her Power...well there's a couple option I suppose for how a Shard works going off of Fate materials. They, as in collectively for the Shards, might hold foreign Authorities|Functionalities, if not Skills depending on how divided they are, that enables them to preform feasts such as bending reality, and controlling vast multitudes beyond normal human comprehension.

Another might be a situation where the Shards are themselves a sort of artificially natural (native for the Shard) Psychic channel. Where the Host is removed from Humanity's common sense to a degree via connecting; perhaps even possessing abilities that Man may have once had but were selected out; as by Touko. Which would make sense for the abnormal brain region that all Parahumans have I suppose in canonical Parahuman-media.

So, this is probably going to sound like it's in response to...certain things that were said yesterday, but this is actually something I forgot to put in the notes when I posted the chapter: next weekend is Easter, so this story will be on break. We'll resume with Chapter XLIII: Ave Caesar on Saturday, April 23rd.

You know, that's kind of a missed opportunity, isn't it? One both the FGO team and I missed. After all, Brutus killing Julius Caesar is one of the most famous assassinations in history, and Orléans already established that famously opposed enemies can be chain-summoned whenever one or the other appears. It would have made way more sense than Jing Ke being summoned, too, because Brutus was actually Roman.

Just wish I'd thought of it early enough to make use of it.

He would be an Assassin, but wouldn't his presence make people uncomfortable?

This is the dude that back stabbed his supposed friend and emperor after all.

What I meant is he is a known individual for stabbing (a) Roman Emperor in the back. I really don't think Nero's guards would like him around her.

Either way it's not all the important. It's a missed opportunity and that's that.

I mean, it's a bit more complicated than that

Quick History then... from memory so probably has a few flaws...

When Julius Caesar walked into the forum that day it was after he had pushed thru some reforms that limited the power of the senate (and senatorial class) and was widely expected to take steps to declare himself Dictator for Life (Dictator being an actual Roman office that was only used in dire situations) or worse King of Rome. King was considered worse than Dictator because Dictator was explicitly limited to Julius himself, King was basically Julius and his descendants being on top "forever".

Brutus and Cassius joined the "Conspiracy to save the Republic" and participated in the murder of Julius Caesar in the Senate Building, the attack was carried out here as traditionally only Senators entered (guards stayed outside) and no weapons beyond a personal knife (normally considered a tool by Romans) were allowed. Julius already had the power to bypass this, but by all accounts had severely misjudged the resentment of the Senatorial Class.

The actual assassination was basically a mob of Senators drawing their knives and jumping Julius en' masse, it is unclear if Brutus struck the final blow or even struck at all, legend has it Julius saw Brutus with the attackers and went "Et tu Brute" and stopped fighting back. Brutus gets his infamy because he owed *EVERYTHING* he had to Julius and still betrayed him, add to that Brutus was then the one who went to the Roman legions and tried to speechify them away from their loyalty to Julius (his heir's rather) and revive their loyalty to the Roman Republic itself. He failed.

Brutus and Cassius then fled east to the provinces of Greece and Asia and raised an Army for Roman Civil War "2nd Triumvirate vs The Last Republicans" edition. They lost here as well and neither survived the defeat. A major part of how Brutus tried to sell himself and would be an integral part of his legend is that he only fought to save the true Republic of Rome and I believe he is credited with "Sic Semper Tyrannus", "Thus always to Tyrants", after Julius was murdered.

One enduring legacy of the assassination was that when he finally ended up with supreme power Augustus spent much effort on making it look like the old Republic was still in charge while stripping the Senate and other offices of any ability to act without his permission. Augustus managed to make it work, but by Nero's time the system was as flawed and corrupt as the old Republic was when Julius got assassinated.

snip

Mostly correct, Cassius was already a part of the conspiracy and brought Brutus into it, (Cassius had a relative that had been exiled that Julius refused to allow to return to Rome if memory serves) Arguments amongst historians abound over this because it is argued that Caesar's assasination was a legitimate execution because they had a quorum of the senate participating, thus declaring Caesar guilty of Treason.

Hereafter Material: Bán Epona and Rúad Étaín [Term]
Bán Epona and Rúad Étaín [Term]

The divine horses that pull Aífe's chariot. They are a pair of powerful steeds, one white and one red, who were taken as spoils from two different animal goddesses associated with horses in the ancient Celtic world. Even with nothing more than a look, it is possible to see plainly the magnificence and the splendor of these godly creatures. Everything, from the sheen of their coats to the purity of the color of their fur and their strongly muscled bodies is obviously supernatural.

It would not be inaccurate to claim they are the pinnacle of divine horses.

Incidentally, because Aífe is sometimes conflated with another mythical figure bearing the same name, her horses and chariot have gained the ability to travel over water as though it was land. This was not an ability these horses originally possessed.

How were they acquired, you might ask? Simple. Through conquest. Aífe challenged these goddesses, defeated them, and took a horse from each as proof of her victory.

Why would Aífe challenge these goddesses? One might say that such divine steeds are plenty reward for the feat of conquering the divine as a mere mortal, but Aífe's purpose was even simpler: to prove that she could.

When, as a warrior, you've reached the pinnacle of martial prowess and no human can provide a challenge, what else is left but to challenge the gods themselves? Such was Aífe's motivation, for she found that her skills in battle had far outstripped all of her contemporaries.

Of course, the question then becomes how so mighty a warrior could fear that such incredible steeds could be killed by something so mundane as a fall down the glen…and Aífe will only admit that she was caught off guard and reacted entirely on reflex.

Look, she just really loves her horses, okay?

She most certainly must. What girl never wanted a pony growing up?
"I want a pony," Romanov moved with a non-sequiter. "Artie had one, obviously. Becca had one," she pointed at Amadio. "I didn't get one. But every girl wants a pony. And I didn't get one. Think Fury will buy me one?"

"Pft, spoilsport," Romanov sighed. "So, did you know anything about my office?"

"I categorically deny knowing anything about a Shetland Pony named Mabel that may or may not have been in your office in the Triskelion at some point in the near past," XX denied completely. "Mordred laughed in my face when I made the suggestion and told me he wouldn't help at all, and then Fury told me no, so I couldn't make the arrangements."

"So you don't know anything about the six-foot stuffed animal, the purple pony in my office this morning?"

"Not mine," XX said.

Even Black Widow wanted a pony. But sadly she never got to have one.

Can I just express exactly how bullshit it is that Caligula has A+ STR? As in, "Hey, I can comfortably arm-wrestle the greatest hero of Greece, who also happens to be the most famous hero in the history of mankind." That's the level of Strength he has. The same level of Strength that made Herk so dangerous that no one in FSN dared to try and tank a direct hit from him, no matter how good their armor was. Artoria took what was basically a glancing blow from him and was so fucked up that she didn't have the strength to even stand up straight, let alone dodge the follow up.

Why does Caligula have A+ STR? Iunno. Reasons. I guess there's something about adding modifiers to some of his stats as a result of his personal skills, but they're worded super vaguely so it's not entirely clear that the reason every single one of his stats has a + modifier has to do with that. It's also kinda super hax if he can buff himself that much every time he gets into a fight, because not only is he getting a rank-up to everything from his Mad Enhancement, he's also actually doubling all of his stats, and no one ever makes that big a deal about it.
