You move, vanishing into a blur.
"Gonna keep moving, if I stand still they'll just get a free shot." You say over the comms, bouncing off tree's, benches and a fountain in an increasing erratic pattern. Didn't matter watching, just had to stay mobile.
"Copy Huntress, we'll keep our eyes peeled." Dauntless informs you. Just as he says that a spectral figure catches your eye, a target lock flashing on your HUD. Your arm cannon snaps up as undulating masses of energy pour out and arc towards their target. The Echo doesn't even get a chance to react as they slam into it, staggering the spectral entity. It raises an arm to ward off the shots and then seems to turn before vanishing. You spin in the air, foot slamming into the ground, propelling you forward. Well that's at least-WHOA!
You fall to your knees, skidding along the ground in what you had seen Dean say is a "power slide" when he showed a video of a concert to you and Dennis, a blade of energy passing just over your head.
You push your foot out, spinning yourself around to retaliate against the other Echo but it had already vanished without a trace.

"Echo by the fountain!" You hear Armsmaster call out just as Dauntless yells out the location of the other by the park entrance. You glance towards the one at the park entrance but don't even get a chance to fire before you have to leap into the air as dozens of orbs of light slam into your position. Another chill up your spine causes your jets to fire, just as a bolt of lightning passes through where you just were, the clap of thunder that followed it automatically muffled by your suit. Your hand shoots out to catch you, and you manage a perfect one-handed cartwheel to place yourself back to your feet. Sadly the Echoes don't appreciate your acrobatic skill.
They do however appreciate the charge shot you let loose, the ground underneath one of them turning molten as it impacts and explodes. A few more shots force the echo away.

"Focus Mouse." Miss Militia chides her friend.
"Ah come on, we have these ghosts on the run!"
"They're afraid of mice!" Triumph pipes up.
"Ha! He gets it! I bet they're so scared the ghosts are going to appear right there!" Mouse Protector crows, pointing with her sword.
"Would you all focus, these things are trying to kill-" Armsmaster starts, before the Echoes appear right where Mouse Protector pointed.
"Huh." Mouse Protector states, slowly lowering her blade.
You turn your arm cannon towards them, snapping off a few shots. Unfortunately both vanish before any of the shots can connect.
"Ah man, that would have been an amazing story if you hit them!" Assault whines, followed by a muffled thump as you assume his wife smacks him in the head.

Seems he had put away his halberd with the way the fights been going.
"Well I think it's a coward! Come on ya big chicken! Are ya really scared of a little girl?!" She mocks with a laugh and even you can tell she's trying to raise everyone's spirits. It was working though, at least for you. The Echo must be badly injured at this rate. You spare a glance towards Mouse Protector as you leap from point to point.
And just manage to catch the Echo materialize right beside her.

You see it in slow motion, one minute Mouse was standing there, fine. Then a ghostly taloned hand appears, slamming into her side with the force of a bullet. She comes apart in a shower of gore, your super-senses allowing you to watch where each bit flies off too. Then another claw comes in, slicing through spine and arm bone with contemptuous ease. One half nearly reaches the ground before vanishing. The other simply lands with a quiet thump and the pitter-patter of blood droplets staining the white snow in a fan-like spray.

And all you see is red.
You cross the distance between you and the Echo in an instant, a charged shot already formed on the end of your arm cannon. You smash it into the creature, an inarticulate scream of rage on your lips. The Charge shot explodes on contact, the energy released vaporizing Mouse Protectors severed legs and arm but washing harmlessly over you as you pump uncharged blast after uncharged blast into it before the creature vanishes.

A scream of shock, horror and rage draws your attention for only a moment as you see Miss Militia race forward towards you before stopping short. The Assault rifle in her hands shifts between weapon after weapon as she tears herself away from staring at where Mouse Protector was eviscerated as she searches for the culprit as the other's begin to react to their leader vanishing in a fountain of blood.
"Oh god Karren no!"
"No, Goddamnit no..."
"FUCK, FUCK!"
"They got her!" Armsmaster suddenly interrupts. "The clinic! I got the alert from Dragon, she teleported before she fell unconscious. They'll be able to heal her!"
Miss Militia doesn't respond, focused on the task at hand but you can see a slight tremble to her hands.
"She'll be fine, but we need to be- BEHIND YOU!" Armsmaster yells and you turn.
1D20+3 => 12 #<13 Samus enraged

A scream tears from your throat as you fire shot after shot at the Echo, even though it had already vanished without a trace. You don't care, you want this thing dead. You want it dead. A few shots from Miss Milita joins your torrent of destruction, though the bullets do little in comparison to the heat and force released from a wave beam shot impacting.
You stop shooting, a small part of your mind reminding you this was only presenting an opening for the creature. Miss Militia stops too, you could hear how her heart was pounding in her chest. You both weren't calm, both not focusing. While she was stifling it, trying to turn it into a laser focus you were giving into mindless rage. Need to keep mind clear, turn rage into purpose. Both tactics weren't good, weren't working.
Got to make it work. Have to kill it. Kill it. Killitkillitkillitkillit...
You cross the distance between you and her in an instant, standing in front of her. Part of you wants to hug her and cry, another knows you're still in combat and instincts honed on Zebes scream at you to pull yourself away, raise your arm cannon and get ready to fight for survival. So for a moment you stand confused, one hand reaching towards Miss Milita before you pull it back.
She freezes as well looking down at your hand, and a silent understanding passes between the two of you. Though you can't see her face you almost see her eyes crinkling in a smile.
And then red droplets splatter across your visor as a large taloned hand bursts through her torso, lifting her into the air.

The Echo tosses Miss Milita away with almost casual disdain, her broken body crashing into a tree with bone-breaking force. With little more than meat and her armour holding her together she splits apart, offal spilling out. You're still holding still as you were, not even registering as a shot rings out and surrounds Miss Militia in a purple light, putting her into stasis. Nor Armsmaster screaming that she'll live if you attack. All you can do is stare ahead.
The creature raises its arm.

You know where it's going to appear, almost sense it. Shot charged you bring it up just as it appears and fire. It's head twitches, looking at you with empty eyes and you almost see a hint of... respect in them. Before it disintegrates into motes of light with an unearthly wail.
You're left standing there, hand twitching and flexing constantly as you expect more to come. You want more to killKILLkillkillkillkillkillkill make them pay kill
But they don't, and as if to mock you the sky clears, sun illuminating the devastation wrought upon the park. All the trees were gone, the fountain and benches were smashed. A Scorch mark traced a path across the length of the park, nevermind the still smoldering craters that dotted the landscape.
Or the blood from the adult capes.
Armsmaster rushes over to Miss Militia, hitting her with another paralyzer shot. "Samus, get Dauntless down." He informs you, and numbly do so. First shooting him again just to make he was in stasis, then leaping up and plucking the weightless mass from the air, trying to not think about how little there is of him.
When you land you lay him beside Miss Militia, the others rushing over to the four of you.
Hand clasp over mouths, shock and horror permeates but there's a feeling of... routine amongst the older capes. Like they had seen this before one too many times. You do hear that you'll be helping keep them in stasis until ambulances arrive to take them to the clinic. Then they'll be no worse for wear.
Everything would be fine...
Triumph however just stares at Dauntless and Miss Militia's frozen forms, muttering. "Why...?" Asking a question but not expecting an answ-
"There is a Magical operation of maximum importance; the Initiation of a New Aeon." A voice, radiating with ancient power cuts through the cloud of despair like a knife. Instantly your Arm Cannon is up, ready to kill the speaker without a second thought.
But when you see what it was you stop short. For this was no Echo but the real thing. A Chozo ghost, skeletal yet with a weight to it few could comprehend. Unimaginable power was held by this long dead being and it was looking right at you.
"When it becomes necessary to utter a Word, the whole Planet must be bathed in blood..."
And then, with that Omen given it disintegrates into light, leaving you with far too many questions as shouts of shock and calls for answers come from those still conscious.

1D20 => 1 CRIT FAILURE #<15 Mouse spots

1D20+6 => 18 #<13 Samus Angry
You aren't even given time to process what just happened before the Echo whirls around, a spray of bolts forcing you to dash to the side. But as adrenaline pumps into your system what you just witnessed, someone you care about being torn to pieces finally comes home.
1D20-1 => 3 #<15 Miss Militia spots, receives modifier for rage
1D20+1 => 17 #<15 Armsmaster spots
1D20+3 => 12 #<13 Samus enraged
1D20 => 3 #<17 Echo murderous
1D20-1 => 0 CRIT FAIL #<15 Miss Militia spots, receives modifier for rage
The Echo tosses Miss Milita away with almost casual disdain, her broken body crashing into a tree with bone-breaking force. With little more than meat and her armour holding her together she splits apart, offal spilling out. You're still holding still as you were, not even registering as a shot rings out and surrounds Miss Militia in a purple light, putting her into stasis. Nor Armsmaster screaming that she'll live if you attack. All you can do is stare ahead.
The creature raises its arm.
It's too late to react, you've already charged your next attack.

It strikes the beast, forcing it to vanish. You move, not thinking, only acting. All that is in your mind is an animalistic rage, a soundless fury that consumes your very being. Voices ring in your ears, shouting words that you don't care to register the meaning of. All you want to do is rip and tear rip and tear kill kill kill kill killKILlkilLLKillkIlL
"HANNAH! Goddamnit, Goddamnit it knows we're spotting for Samus! Everyone get out of there! I'll watch-"
A torrent of blasts scream into the sky, one clips Dauntless's leg.

The blast vaporizes everything below his ribcage, his shield and arc lance exploding into splinters. He falls from the sky, little more than a torso and head. Your shot catches him when he's halfway to the ground, freezing him in place.
And then you explode forward, a snarling beast. Shots pour from your arm cannon.

[] Stay out of everyone's way.
[] Stay by Miss Militia and Dauntless.
[] Clean up some of the mess.
AN: Yeah, I know I said I wouldn't massively screw you guys over for 1's but uh, didn't have much option in this case due to circumstance. As you can see Armsmaster got through a crit-fail fine due to his fed armour while the other's... didn't.
So blame Armsmaster for putting himself first and not making everyone Fed Armour immediately and not the dice or GM please!
To make it up, have a Samus cosplaying as Alice from American McGee's Alice in Wonderland!
