And here Hibiki's Dad goes from 'rancid shit' to 'kinda cool' :)

I really liked that he wasn't just tossing rocks in a panic.

Best villain song that I've seen a long time, Disney has some serious competition.

Also, you might have noticed, the song that played during the previous fight with adult mode Carol is this same song, just with the vocals removed.

Bikidad isn't 'rancid shit', he just really didn't cope well with Japan being what the fuck.
However, given the previous significant males until this season have been A)The awesome Commander and Manager, B)The blatantly evil Ver, or C)God, he suffers quite a bit compared to the other males in the series.

You forgot Tsubasa's 'dad', who isn't bad, but is terrible at expressing himself.

WHY DID THE SKY JUST CRACK APART?!

Chicken Little says hi.

Apparently Carol's base is a floating fortress. Given how the sky just cracked open, I'm guessing it was stowed away in another dimension. But now, Carol presumably has the entire score for the world's end.

Her base is named the same as Elizabeth Bathory's home. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be the same place, or if it's just name the same for thematic reasons.

Our villian is singing. I assume this isn't good. Especially given she's singing about genocide.

So yeah I maaaaaay have intentionally misled you precisely so the impact of this moment would be maximized. I'd like to thank @Crow for playing along.

Gotta maintain the Wham of the Wham Moments, after all.

Can I mention that I love her song? (It's called Genocide Harp - Daurdabla by the way) It's one of my favorite songs from the show.

Now, given my observations that songs and singing seems have some correlation with mutual understanding and forming bonds, what would it mean that Carol's singing, given that she's actively rejecting the idea of bonds and understanding people? Food for thought.

-starts listening to it while finishing this post-

It's not just any song. This is a Swan Song. Given how those have been universally near-deadly when not mitigated by stuff such as Hibiki's Power Drain or X-drive becoming possible, I doubt Carol plans on surviving this.

Well universal extermination means universal, not "universal except me".

Uh, Carol, you seem to have missed the memo. Hibiki's Armed Gear are her fists, even if you've got her tied up with strings.

Ooooooooo come back to this after you finish the show. It'll be fun.

OLD LADY?!? What the actual fuck, you're supposed to be dead! The beginning of the series was your body being retrieved! PEOPLE DIE WHEN THEY ARE KILLED!

I swear by Mata Nui and the Makuta that if they find a way to bring Kanade back from the dead neither the heavens above nor the hells below will contain my righteous fury.

No it doesn't. It has the same name as the castle belonging to Gilles de Rais (GREATEST COOL).

Nowadays, one of the things inside that castle is a museum about alchemy.

Right, pencil in an undead mockery of Kanade for S4.:V

Hrrrrrr-

Huuuuurrrrrrrr-

Huuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrk

*pukes all over Grue*

But seriously while Kanade herself coming back in any capacity rubs me the wrong way, Kanade herself I don't have a problem with showing up again in flashbacks/dream visions.

Mostly because of theories I have for what might (and I use that very strongly, since I am literally spitballing from nothing here) happen in S4+5. Basically, the Ignite system is a powerful upgrade, but maybe too powerful for villains to be a threat without escalating them to be more powerful than Carol - who as you now know is really fucking powerful. So my thoughts are that the enemies in S4+5 will have some kind of emotional manipulation/control, so they can force the Symphogirls to lose control of Ignite Mode, preventing them from using its power against them.

Experiencing this, or overcoming this would probably involve at least one set of flashbacks for everyone, and Kanade is a valid person to show up for Tsubasa and/or Hibiki.

I'm always wondering if Symphogear ever plans to touch on space. Going by the moon pagans were capable of space travel, and it's fairly simple to interpret heaven or other such realms as colonies. Admittedly would lead to a massive genre shift but could be interesting to watch.

As I understand it, Symphogear will end with a golden monolith being fished out of a lake in Kenya.

Basically to me the fact that the moon is a giant relic computer left behind by precursor aliens is a giant big plot hook waiting to be used and I'd like to see them go back to it.

I don't plan to specifically search that shit to provide confirmation (or read it again at all), but I know of similar if lesser cases in USA and Russia... "My (insert here) died, why you shit have survived - YOU SHIT ARE RESPONSIBLE" + mob mentality is hell of a shitstorm inducer.

So it's not Japan. It's sadly "humans can really be shit without even trying".

Reality, sadly, does its best to outdo fiction sometimes.
HibikiDad is not a good parent, but that what the fuck is why I apparently give him a lot more benefit of the doubt than most people apparently do.

I'm personally a fan of the fact that the lyrics of little Miracle, the song that Bikki sings in that episode, basically works out as "You're still a bit shit and you're barely doing anything but that's about all you can do and you're actually trying so I suppose it's okay"

I don't like Bikkidad. Its just... there are some things that really can't be fixed. I know its a magical girls series, but... I guess it depends on how they handle it in S4 more than anything. Bikkidad has a pretty bad character after all, what with Tsubasa's first time meeting him and the first meeting with Hibiki. And the second.

SymphoGX 12: LAST ACTION HERO
Oh hey, it's the traditional 'using the ending as the opening' that happened in the last two Episode 12s.
Also, Old Lady. Who's supposed to have died when she was killed. Explain please.
I think this is a psychological-based defence possibly? Like Krika's theory that he mentioned after his Linker overdose, the idea's to break down their will. We also saw Carol try that on Hibiki; this will probably similarly backfire.
Yep, psychological defence. Maria knows it's not Old Lady, but the words are still slicing into her. Don't think she feels entirely worthy to be wielding her sister's gear.
The world seems to be dissolving at the lines. Also, alchemy's apparently music-based, which is why Carol was singing to start the end.
Given how they both stem from Fine, music apparently permeates everything here. Fundamentally, the destruction of the Tower of Babel was to break the connections shared between people by language, and song is part of Fine's attempts to bridge that connection. Ironic, given how Fine never actually sings a note once her Kadingr plan is properly going. I suspect constant reincarnation may have worn on her sanity somewhat.
Meanwhile with the FINE trio: THE RETURN OF LAST ACTION HERO! He apparently survived being stabbed and thrown down the castle. ADAM is a potent drug.
....And discarding Ver as useless is about to bite Carol in the ass. Hard. Just destroying the control unit would send the process out of control. So instead, have Ver hijack it.
The fatalities from the dismantling of the world are starting to hit. I think the Americans just lost more ships.
The Dragonstones basically acted as saftey valves, preventing Japan's central location on the leyline network from allowing stuff to propagate from there. Without them, the COOLHOUSE can send the destruction across the world.
Thank you, Maria, they needed to be shouted out of "It's impossible". As Radiant Force says, your chances are never zero.
...Ver's reversing the polarity, reconstructing the dissected world. And it's going to smash the COOLHOUSE in the process. Ver's making a Heroic Sacrifice.
Fake Old Lady's arrived, presumably to stop LAST ACTION HERO. This really isn't going to go as planned for Carol.
Yep. Carol's starting to lose it, denying that anything can possibly stop her. This is what happens when you throw up these flags.
Aaand Fake Old Lady just changed into Shadow Maria. Definitely a psychological attack.
...No, Maria just literally called it her Shadow. Time to put on I'll Face Myself.
Oh hey, it's Radiant Force: Fine Edition.
NERV is focusing on the programming, Ver sacrifices himself to focus on the reconstruction. I raise my hat to Ver actually being a hero for once.
And the spear X-Edge just saved you from is a prime example of why you shouldn't go it alone, Maria.
Damnit FINE trio, don't pull a Heroic Sacrifice. Also, the NERV trio may want to go hit Carol before she can attempt to stop them from stopping her.
PFFFTHAHAAHAH. Carol just destroyed the COOLHOUSE herself. I hope the FINE trio survived that.
While the physical world is restored, the vaporised people notably aren't. The FINE trio are still missing, presumed dead, but hopefully some Phonic Gain should let them get back up again like Bluewing and Chris did in S1.
With her plan in tatters, Elfnein tries appealing to her by pointing out the logical meaning of their father's last words. Carol's finally admitted that this was all done out of grief and an inability to forgive those who killed her father. Elfnein's now coughing up blood.
Aaand she misses the point once more. Carol's burning everything to go Super Saiyan.
...There's a double-click mode to Ignite?! We're apparently using the Ignite version of Hibiki's standard battletheme, rather than Radiant Force Ignited.
Even a double-click Ignite isn't doing much against Super Saiyan AT Fields, and it has a time limit to boost.
Gilgamesh-mode even in the face of overwhelming odds, only changing when something goes seriously Not As Keikaku. Carol is really trying to remind us of Fine, except she's actively rejecting everything, instead of Fine's attempts to get back with God.
The return of Genocide Harp. Not good for the Symphogears, given they were thrashed last time she sang.
...Just as planned for the Symphogears?! They're releasing all Dainslef safties, which presumably risks Berserkering.
...Genocide Harp counts as a swansong. She's putting out a shitton of energy. And Hibiki's Swansong specialises in draining that energy. Without the leylines making it too much to handle, Carol's fallen directly into Hibiki's trap-
Oops. Super Saiyan Carol can apparently overpower their capacity, which is why she thought nothing of letting them have Ignite. But there's a little other mode of the Symphogears, dismissed because you can't have miracles all the time. I suspect the end-of-season powerup forms are making their return shortly-
Swansong! From the Fine Trio! They aren't dead yet!
Ver's ego stays to the end. He wants them to survive so someone knows he saved the world as a hero. Compatibility to Symphogears is also apparently affected by how much you want to reach for it, which probably partially explains why Maria's ability to use Gugnir suddenly tanked. Wonder what's on that SD Card, though.
Flashback over, everyone's swansonning, and Carol's blasting them. It's the six-man version of the S2CA, but with Gugnir gathering, and Argetlam controlling.
In other words, they just drained Carol's blast to achieve X-Drive.
And cue the credits. Glorious Break appears to be the credits song here.

To this day, I still don't know how to react to Ver getting exactly what he always wanted, he fucking won in the end!

My understanding is that Alchemy and Songs were each created to bootleg replicate a different feature of the Universal Language. Songs allow Humans to communicate with other Humans across language barriers, whereas Alchemy allows Humans to communicate with the World.

As for Finé never singing on screen, I see a few possibilities:
  1. Ryoko's body didn't have the potential for it, even if it did have the potential to be a vessel for Finé.
  2. Finé lost her interest in communicating with other humans as an equal, desiring true communication exclusively with the Creator.
  3. She had enough of a Gilgamesh complex that she refused to lower herself to wielding the same power as those she sees as beneath her, wanting only to use the power which they can't.
...There's a double-click mode to Ignite?!
When episode 6 first aired, info was added to the official website saying that it has 3 levels of safeties which can be gradually released for extra power, more risk, and shorter time limit. Elfnein also had a single sentence in the beach episode mentioning that it has 3 levels of safeties.

What they've been using prior to this episode is only releasing the first safety.

Eh. He died for it, I say let him have it.

The parallels to Song Magic are kind of astounding.

He got what he wanted but not in the way he wanted. He died content but not satisfied.

Essentially he played lottery and won third place. Like "1st place - car, 2nd place - trip to Bahamas, 3rd - cool keyholder" 3rd place.

All he wanted was to go down in history as a Hero. As long as his role in stopping Finé plot, and whatever is on that SD card, isn't censored out of the public record, he will be satisfied.
The secret of how to create Ver's improved version of LiNKER.

All he wanted was to go down in history as a Hero.
No, he first and foremost wanted to become hero on his terms. Secondary he wanted to become epic hero - when he is one that redefine everything. Tertiary he wanted flashy heroing with being center of attention.

Here he played second fiddle and didn't even see how it would be received. Essentially he got leftovers of what he wanted with all tasty bits going to others.

As he failed all the chances to have first place he is content with getting what he can get, but I doubt he is truly satisfied in the result. He got something out his failure but he's still failure.

Remember that in G he wanted to be killed instead of taken prisoner so that he could go down as a martyr (somehow). A heroic sacrifice that gets remembered by history seems like something he'd prefer over surviving with recognition as a sidekick.

So when is Ver getting summoned as a Servant :V

Well, yes, he got some things going for him in the end (though he would've preferred to try again I think... or maybe he was too tired psychologically), but he still got consolation prize and not what he wanted.
