Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

What if we play a little trick of our own here?

Lydia and Tiffany come with us, but open a way here first and then toggle AtP ourselves? It'd look like Molly had left the rest of the job to them for some reason and give us a bit of an edge to counter whatever they've got cooking on the other side.
Alas no, they can come with you but iron conducts heat fine, they cannot be used for heat protection.
If they're willing to help us fight then that'd make this a lot safer. They're not a patch on Nergui, but 15 support minions are nothing to scoff at.

Though it occurs to me that while iron conducts heat vacuums don't, and undead don't need to breathe. If we could put him in a double walled gerbil ball pumped empty of air then we'd at most need a few bits of heat resistant material harvested from nearby as spacers*, and the geometry of it would slow the heat transfer considerably even if they weren't very good ones. The he could just charge through before the slow bake got to him.

Convincing him to participate in operation "vampiric vacuum flask" might be difficult, even with our modifiers. :V

* or just use MHM to keep one floating inside the other so it has no physical contact at all, requiring 100% radiant heat transfer between layers.

I didnt know that Yama Kings could contest the Final Death of lesser akuma.
Greater akuma sure, but lesser? I didnt expect they had that firm a grasp on them. And Rest Granting Strike appears to be Yes/No. Then again, Lydia is only a Terrestrial Exalt equivalent, and Mikaboshi is a Yama King.
This is hell.

Keep in mind, every Yama King has the Hell-feature that you only die by their will within their domain.
That's not just for the tortured souls, that's for everyone in their hell.

That Lydia can contest that at all shows what power there is in rip-off Abyssal Charms.

I mean, if Tiffany and co go ahead and Manipulate Flesh expires again they will also be in deep trouble, so...

(I am seriously tempted to just write off this operation and let Mikaboshi deal with the Hope Plague though; or at least rest and then try this again?)

It expired because the scene ended. The next iteration will not run out for another 15-30 minutes, more than enough to get what you want, as long as you make it.

Can the elementals communicate with their peers making up the building without risking subsumption? They're carrying the hope plague and presumably can transmit it. If we could get them to french a wall or something and get the corridors to join the revolution it'd solve some problems for us.

It has a scene long duration, so it shouldn't cut out until a significant turnover point. It's significantly less dangerous for all of us if they're present for the fight, because if Molly falls everyone associated with her is screwed even if they're on Earth when it happens. They're examples waiting to be made and resources ready to exploit. As powerful as they are in their own right our choices have drawn heat they'd would not have faced themselves for decades or centuries. Given that time they could potentially take it, but now they need our support to hold those consequences at bay and power level to match them.

At this point I don't think Joe will last very long if we don't get him now. Mikaboshi will take it out on him as the obvious goal of this raid. If we bail it should be with the understanding he's turbo screwed.

They can, but elemental speech is slow, days and weeks of subtle vibration. The only reason they are able to communicate as quickly as they did with you is the use of SCCP

Damn. I was kinda hoping we'd get to see a march of the Ents moment but for cyber hell. :V

Any thoughts on the vampire thermos as an alternative transport option? Making a crafting check at these speeds is a big ask, but it's solid territory for all our difficulty reducers and if the elementals form the shells themselves it seems like it would be faster. All we'd need would be a small amount of either wood, rubber, ceramics, or stone from the places we just passed through to form a support plug and TTC to pump the air out after he's inside.

If it did work, would carrying it ourselves let us cloak it in AtP with Molly as part of something she's doing? Surprise jade Ancestor is a fun trick as long as you're on the right side of it.

Tangential to that, can we leverage Molly's touch of frost? If I recall correctly right now she's basically an equal mass volume of solid ice for the purposes of temperature since we reduced the effect that cooled her environment down*.

Would it be practical to stick the party in an iron box running a water cooled style temperature control system** where Molly is the heat sink?

It's reaching a bit, but I'm trying to find some sort of alternative to leaving anyone behind or showing our escape routes early.

* Never thought I'd regret buying that one down, though I suppose it wouldn't have helped much on its own either.

** Probably with mystery industrial byproducts from whatever the pipes in the walls have available.

  1. Crafting even for single use devices like that usually takes tens of minutes, getting it down to seconds would normally be a bit ask, three times the number of successes, but then again you are rolling at a base DC of 2 so molly could swing it
  2. Unfortunately not on the second point, Touch of Frost even in its original form is not that strong and you guys bought it down

Honestly, considering that Joe will be right ahead, it's better to just use Shintai, distort the traps, catch that damn fairy (who made the soft-hearted voters vote for Molly to plunge into even more unnecessary problems) and get the hell out of there .

Even if Mikaboshi's analyzes a little of our current form of war in the seconds we spend to do this at our speed, it won't matter much, because when this is over we will be at essence 4 and we can buy our third phase, so his information have become outdated.

The issue with Shintai is that it's likely to draw MIkaboshi's direct attention.

Yog we literally exploded a superweapon in the heart of one of his high security research facilities and its effects are already spreading throughout his kingdom, we exploded both our anima and Lydia's and our resident angel is in her apocalyptic form. We already have his attention.

Not really. The infection is fast spreading through his hell, but it's not a direct intrusion of another realm. Our shintai form is likely felt as a peer coming to visit. Like Emma-O personally invaded.

It doesn't really matter, the attention he would give in both cases is equal, be it the visit of another Yama King or our group of almost divine entities that could fight against an Antidevulian, it is his total attention. There is even a comment of DP on how others were seeing our actions.
Oh yeah, this fortress is ground zero and you guys are smashing through looking like the wrath of several, strange and forgotten, gods
Both are situations where you bring out your best against your opponents.

[x] Press on alone
-[x] The others leave by way of Lydia's charm (Mikaboshi can contest this)
--[x]You smile "Well now I get to handle the easy part". You had intended to just be reassuring, but you find that you actually mean it. Right now with the Wicked City at high alert and dangers pressing on from every side you feel more relaxed and comfortable then you felt in a hot tube. You can see everything around yourself in perfect clarity. More important you understand it all. The twisted Fung Shu of the city is as clear to you as if you built it yourself. The plans of your enemies as clear to you as if you had help make them. But not quite after all if you had built this place you would have included an extra surge protector to stop yourself from causing a short brownout right now by stabbing this surge protector.

Honestly the idea that they can make an oven in their own entrance without creating far more vulnerability seems a bit silly.

[X] Try to find a way around the heat trap

Fair enough. I assume that applies to single use trinkets too, so tricking our way around it seems out.

[X] Plan Shell Game
-[X] Lydia opens a way (spend willpower for success) allowing Nergui, the technician, and any elementals who want out to exit, seeking to regroup in Boston. She however stays with the raiding party.
-[X] Tiffany applies a heat resistance effect to herself and Lydia, along with whatever stat boosts she can to all three of them as the evacuation progresses.
-[X] Molly activates TLF and AtP, interacting with the party and elementals who choose to stay so they can see her.
-[X] Blitz to Joe's location but stop to apply combat buffs just prior to entering if possible.

Alternatively:

[X] Plan Bitten By A Radioactive Toddler
-[X] Molly Activates AtP and Shintai
—[X] While doing do she attempts to make the changes appear to be a symptom of the plague as much as is practical.
—[X] Using Shintai Molly clears the path for the raiding party as they blitz to Joe's location.
-[X] [Stunt]: Casting a critical gaze over the way ahead, consideration firming to resolve in Molly's eyes. "Old man, you are trying my patience" something rumbled beneath her words, beneath her feet, here of all places the truth of her nature rising to the surface with unseen strength.
—[X] It was the howling of iron wind like countless gnashing teeth. It was the crackle of lightning that danced with the work of clever hands and raged at their desecration. It was the grinding of a wheel cradling five billion souls in a world that loved them and wanted to see them grow. For one moment more it echoed out into hell, and then things began to change.
—[X] In the world around them the city took on the cast of a different dream. Neither surrounded or alone, held in place or forced to flee, made to fit a mold or barred from your true nature; in each line the city spelled out a message to those within. You matter. The world cares and it wants you to succeed.

I went a bit overboard with this, but I got caught on the idea of what an inverse Wicked City would be like. On how you'd describe the noblebright twin to cyberpunk, which is a large part of what Molly's themes are moving towards.

The conclusion I came to is a place where you aren't ignored or monitored, where the living technology threading through everything genuinely cares and society has built compassion into its bones. Where it feels like god, fate, the world at large, whatever you want to call it is cheering for you personally and offering what help it can.

It's also an affront to everything Mikaboshi stands for, and a vision of heaven for the people starting to feel hope. An image to sear into their hearts of what they could have if they win. To haunt their idle moments and private thoughts when looking at what currently exists. Cause if we're doing this we might as well attempt to make things worse for him if we can.

The rationale with AtP is to try enhancing that impact. I don't expect it to make people ignore the change, but minions still need to hit the willpower bar and roll for it to pierce the effect.

Still not totally sure it's the best idea, but if we use Shintai later instead I think a similar application would be fun.

[X] Plan Bitten By A Radioactive Toddler no AtP add buffs

My criteria for plans is to vote for the one that will make Mikaboshi's bad day even worse.

Not really happy with going Shintai, but it is, in my opinion, the best option among poor choices we have.
It is also another very powerful statement, which mitigates us breaking security at least a bit.

Edit:
I don't remember, has Nergul already seen us going Shintai?

My criteria for plans is to vote for the one that will make Mikaboshi's bad day even worse.
What a day to be "alive" in hell too. I'm imagining it something like this:

After decades of constant abuse you've been ground down to almost nothing. You go to work. You do your job. You take what you're given and give what the city cares to take. You're one of the lucky ones because you haven't yet been demoted from contractor to product this quarter.

Then one day you see something that stirs feelings you thought died with your past life. Graffiti that reminds you of your family, a laugh that sounds more kind than cruel, a brief snippet of advertising jingle that almost sounds like real music, something that brings you back to before everything went wrong and you spiraled down into hell.

There's a shift you can feel in your bones, and a gleam of brass draws your eyes to the stacks. Written in green fire and brilliant metal there stands a vision of something painfully familiar and utterly unrecognizable. The instincts that have kept you alive trace things you barely understand, while parts of you that haven't been whole in a long long time drink it down like water in the desert.

You need it. No drug you've ever had can compare. No vice you've been afforded, no sin committed even half so satisfying.

Heaven is real. Heaven is here, if only in pieces. What was once can be again, and that blasphemous spark lit in your heart knows just how to get it.

Or something to that effect. :V

It might be a strategically bad call if Mikaboshi tries to blow us up or similar, but if it works it'd be a hell of a show.
