Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

At least Lydia thinks it's probably not Ra.

Maybe a Tulpa or other spirit that is getting shaped into something Ra-like by the Pallbearer's faith and magic?
Or he's just making himself believe that while taking psychometric readings for divine voices and there's something entirely unlike Ra behind this all?

Whatever it is, it doesn't look like the real sungod is involved, at least directly.
If we take into account our crown vision, my guess is something actually associated with Ra, or even Sol Invictus. A stone from a statue of him maybe?

Lol Toy Story.
Hilarious that Harry has the second best disguise roll here after Molly, and he did it by basically doing a CSI cosplay in a convention city.

Interesting that people are looking at our party with dread. Wonder why.

I will note that Molly literally just killed a god a couple days ago.
And it wasnt Halloween.
So the reaction from the local presence might not be disgust, but fear.

Im inclined to go in unless explicitly asked to leave.
If whatever servitor of Ra that came here can live with setting up a temple in a city literally established and run at the behest of a Sin-Eater, it can bear with the temporary presence of an Infernal.

Besides, OOC this place is supposed to be Summer territory; the only Court outpost in Las Vegas.
The Ra cult is just renting access to it.
So just address whoever the presence here is like we did when we first met Mouse after Exalting, promising good behavior.

Only not using Eastern etiquette.

Before going in, why not use the Crown what we actually did to offend it/him/them? That way we at least know how (to what) to apply Etiquette. It should be cost neutral, I think, even with occult excellency.

I genuinely dont think it matters
And it might be trivial, or self-evident enough that we dont get any Essence regen from it.
Better to save the scene for if we need to ask a more important question later, or something that will get us a net Essence gain.

Since we're only on 9/15, and are going to spend 1 Essence now on an Etiquette Excellency, we need to watch our expenditure.

OOC: The demon book is not clear on when precisely the Fallen get their Faith, it just says 'each day' so I decided to go midnight since it is a magically significant hour that fits them.
I had to go find my copy of the book, because I was certain this was wrong, but didn't remember if it was in the Core Book or not. It was. Page 251, the demon recovers Faith from a Pact when dawn passes over the mortal the Pact is with, explicitly noting that you can in fact exploit this by having pacts with people in different time zones to get more daily income than you can hold.

Oh you are right, Lash does not get her faith then.

The last temple we did that in they got a check to sense our crown, though they failed it.
I expect one here too, and we don't need it.

Can you send the same mortal back and forth over the terminator to keep generating faith? :p

Alas you do not have the chance toask questions The earth shakes, the glass panes shake as though a great wind had come upon them. The cow moos in panic adding to the pendemonium such tha no one but the four of you can hear Lydia's urgent whisper: "Er... Molly I think it's you, whatever lives in here does not like you in particular."
Tough shit, splitting the part is a no go. The more it pushes here the more suspicious it seems.
I get that we're very sketchy, but if it trusts the people we're with it should at least be able to extend us the courtesy of a conversation.

Just as a note for stunts, per RaW ExWoD exalts can manifest their caste mark for free independent of their other stuff. If we want to pull what we did with Mouse and announce ourselves doing so might be a good addition.

So you want to be on the verge of anima flare before we're even in the door?

Here's the cite on the caste mark stuff, since I didn't have time to put it up earlier:

Caste marKs
The Solar, Lunar, Sidereal, Infernal, and Abyssal Exalted are marked by the ancient symbols of their patrons from the Age of Legends. With a moment's concentration, any of the Chosen may cause the mystic symbol of their Caste to appear and blaze upon their forehead in an unmistakably supernatural display. Those who see an Exalt's caste mark know instinctively that its bearer is a potent supernatural being, but noth- ing more. Only the most wise and ancient of spirits might recognize the Chosen for what they truly are: the ancient heroes of the Age of Legends, once more unleashed into the world. A character's caste mark also involuntarily appears while her anima banner does, glowing brightly enough to be visible through anything covering her forehead
ExWoD page 39
It actually does something more than just glow and look obviously unnatural. Would be entertaining to expose someone who doesn't believe in the supernatural to it since they'll instinctively feel enough to get the idea. :V

Remember the first time we met Mouse after Exalting?
I quote:
There is no bell on the heavy steel door so like last time you knock.

Three things happen then almost at the same time: firstly a somewhat less unshaven and trenchcoat-less Harry Dresden opens the door with the rune carved stick in hand, secondly a car alarm goes off somewhere behind you, thirdly a deep heavy bone shaking bark rings out from behind him once, twice thrice, sound chasing echo and echo chasing sound. You had never in your life been scared of dogs, even big dogs but for just a moment hovering on that threshold you are over come by a desire to run, not even get in the car just go.

"Mouse stop that!" you hear Harry call back as you force your muscles to work lowering your hand very deliberately to your side.

The hell I'm going to let anything scare me like that again.

Spent 1 Essence

Looking around Harry you see the great guard dog, or as he had put it his 'dogosaurus rex' looking dead at you only he is most certainly not being a friendly floof this time around what the barred teeth the arched back and... oh yeah the ghostly blue flame on his golden coat.

"Spirit blood runs in the hound and his is the warding of thresholds," Usum hisses in your mind. "Those of Heaven's blood bear no love for those of Yomi Wan. I do not know if he is wise enough to have words with us in peace."

How do you address the angry temple dog?

Understanding surges though you, more than the words whispered in your mind, the patterns of the world made clear as living flame. Looking past Harry you bow slowly palms extended to show you are not armed, then briefly you stick out your tongue apparently to show that it is not black. "Usum so help me if you are making any of this stuff up I will find a way to strangle you..."

"I would deserve no less Merciful Herald of Righteous Violence,"
he replies serenely as Mouse, you think his name is, abruptly stops barking, though he does not stop glowing.

So under the tutelage of a devil and the increasingly alarmed eyes of Harry Dresden you recount:"Good fortune to you scion of the Auspicious Lions, guardian of the high door and keeper of the Fifth House. Know that I mean you no evil and no evil to those whom you guard.
I will not drink their breath waking or sleeping, nor crush their bones with ice. I shall not set the flaying wind upon them nor..." Nope, not saying the part about the maggots, that's gross. "Nor shall I give ill counsel but only good. I seek enlightenment in the ways of the world and the ways of spirit and shall freely give such understanding of both as I am asked for in fair exchange. "

By the end of your proclamation the spirit dog looks really confused with all the hair on his body sort of puffing out as the spectral fire dims and he tips his head to the side. That had apparently been 'very generous terns' according to Usum.
We have spent several months exchanging knowledge and random tips with Bob.
I am pretty sure we can figure out etiquette for courteously speaking with a spirit.

It matters a lot. If it's "our aura is being mistaken for a Yama king", that's one thing, and we behave one way. If it's "the stones remember being shattered by the previous holder of our exaltation", it's another thing. If it's "the last remnants of Sol Invictus loath the heir of Yozi" it's a third thing. If it's "shavings from the walls of Black Vault / Jade prison are attempting to automatically fulfill their function to contain exalted", or "the local god feels a rival for the blessing of the sun", or "the rubble of Ravana's fortress hates the power of nuclear armageddon" all those would require different responses.

We either need to ask who we offended or what the offense is in order to effectively use etiquette appropriate for the situation.

We can afford 2 motes expenditure, because they are either going to be reimbursed by the secret we learn, or we'll get to use occult excellency for this clearly occult situation.
So you want to be on the verge of anima flare before we're even in the door?
We still get one more mote as a reserve for an excellency, we get occult excellency in the bargain, and, genuinely, so what if we flare?

What kind of spirit, though? From what age (and Age)? From what realm? Offended by what? We need to learn something in order to apply correct etiquette. Fomori etiquette is different from Jade Court etiquette is different from Summer etiquette. What is polite in one court is a deadly offense in another.

Edit: Like, simple real life examples: do you take your hat off when saluting someone in the army?

Most of these are ridiculous enough to dismiss out of hand. It's possible there's an exotic reason for it, but more often the simplest option is the right one even for the supernatural. Molly looks like a big demon, which upsets the god rock.

I think we're still actively the target of a mote tap campaign, so being tightfisted with our essence is a good idea.

If the thing made it this far some level of cross cultural understanding is pretty likely.

I agree with you but using the occult Excellency is just a step too far for essence. The context is deeply important in using etiquette as a skill. Mage 20th anniversary has an example that uses etiquette in place of linguistics for greeting but you need to have observed the local culture to use it correctly. Knowing why this entity has a problem with us is directly impactful to figuring out how to use etiquette correctly.

We still have nine dice to roll even without the Excellency for occult and if it has to do a Kakuri or the 1,000 Hells more than that. The non contextual etiquette Excellency doesn't make sense because you cannot use just the Excellency and expect it to work 100% of the time.

Also even using the etiquette Excellency what the hell are you trying to get across at that point because you don't know why they're mad at you you don't know how they might feel about you and you have no way of knowing that by just using the etiquette Excellency.
Having said all that.
