Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Not the time or place for this, IMO. Too many civilians around, too many witnesses (both eyes and cameras), too much potential for collateral damage, etc.

What method? Running/flying/going into our kingdom?

Ok. Transport them to NeverNever? Just fly straight up for half a minute, while bringing everyone? I really don't want to bring Nemesis-associated beings into our soul.

And can we easily get back anyway @DragonParadox do we have any of our music playing by default in Chicago? Basically what are the odds we get stuck in our kingdom?

You guys did not set that up, but you could fire up a message to that effect with Clippy to the people at the Last Station.

[X] Get out of here before the cops show up and start asking questions you would rather not answer
-[X] Put a building between them and the car ASAP, or get out of effective range ASAP. Molly might be able to tank that, but not anyone else (depending on how Armor Penetration capability in an attack interacts with Armor/Soak)
-[X] Have someone watching them to warn if they launch again (and potentially how to maneuver to evade)

Even if the warhead doesn't hit the cabin, it'll still wreck the car for sure (with the damage that that entails), which would also leave us without non-essence-using fast transportation.

-[X] Crown question with the RPG goons as focus: What are their employers (Sandra's) plans here?

Just to be clear, Sandra had zero reason to show herself except as bait.

Whether she thought that soon goods with rockets could actually kill us or not is irrelevant, she didn't have to watch it either way.

But she did, so she did it for a reason.

I wouldn't do either. Drag her body to a car and physically leave. Deliver her to Meave who is waiting outside the city and come back to settle accounts with everyone else.

Next time we do this we should take out perfect attack and some essence vessels. They don't have a range, they have a responsibility requirement for the deaths involved. First time we see a target we kill them on the spot and leave with their soul in a snow globe.

If they're very cooperative (and not contaminated with outsider goo) they can have another body afterwards courtesy of our hell. As a treat.

If not we have snack time because whatever they were before an unhoused soul is a spirit.

Outstanding replies later.

COMMENTARY
The vision was useful; not exhaustive, but it does establish most people who arent trying to kill the city.

The dark eyed woman is probably Silk at Club Xanadu, which is apparently a dome.
The white haired dancer is Moira, ex-Mormon and leader of the Cirque du Bizarre, which is basically the Vegas version of Cauldron, only drawing most of its membership from street performers and the adjacent population.

The ebony-skinned man who had not been a man for more than a hundred years is probably the Dragon, who we know was recruited by the Sin-Eater in 1905. Alternatively, thats Oliver Adkin of the Pallbearers, who Arlene said was over a hundred years old by his mannerisms, and British, but there werent many black Brits around in Victorian times.

We can simply ask if the Dragon or Adkin is black in this AU; both are public figures.

The glass pyramid sounds like the Luxor Hotel and Casino, which is a literal glass pyramid with Egyptian theming like giant sphinxes and a replica of King Tut's tomb
Opened in 1993.
If there's a mummy or Egyptian god in Las Vegas, it will be there.

The Springs Reserve is a real place in Las Vegas; an environmental site thats around 108 hectares, and a Summer-held outpost in the Dresden Files, with a small force of Summer Fae and a Way to Summer.

Thats where the Pallbearers are currently based, and likely provides an additional defense against intruding Blampires.
If the local Summer representative(Brianna, elven ranger) is letting the Pallbearers rest there, then they are not overtly Nephandi, and may actually be on the up and up.

Going to remind people we've only been in Las Vegas a couple hours. And we've been moving.
An ambush of this sort requires information superiority. Even if they've been tracking Molly's aura, they have to have a lot of advance warning of her route to set up an RPG ambush.

I wonder if there's a tracker in the car. *checks*
Yup, rental cars have GPS trackers that the rental company can use to track its cars, and have since at least 2004. So good old technological means, not magic.

Well that rental was a mistake. Should have HMP'd the car.
It does tell us that whoever the striped suit guys are, they have the influence/contacts to get that kind of tracking info.
Which likely means Mafia.

The men in striped suits are explicitly fingered by the ghosts as the people who murdered Sgt Andrews and tried to make it look like a suicide. They are confirmed hostile, and either collaborators or dupes of Sandra and her friends.
We want them for interrogation and Crown foci.

They have mortal dice pools (Firearms pool was 5) so they shouldnt be particularly difficult to deal with.

We have outright confirmation that Sandra Marling is a magic user.
Whether its her own innate magic, or an Investment from her masters, doesnt matter; the woman has mojo.

Serious mojo at that, because short of Fae or people with a specialization, veils are difficult magic.
Wizard-tier magic.
Do not follow the woman into an alley unprepared; she undoubtedly has a lot more tricks under her poncho.

Going to note that we currently havent committed a crime.
We were the victims of a crime, not the perpetrators, and leaving the scene is reasonable if you fear a repeat attempt. That said, I'll note that while ATP will work against people, it wont work against cameras or recordings. Best to keep that in mind.

Is there even any point in fighting these guys? Even if we capture them they are unlikely to know anything useful. We might as we jump straight into our kingdom and recover resources.
Interrogation and Crown foci.
Plus, they have been murdering cops in this city. I'd like to know why.

Sandra is bait, but potentially worth the risk.
The actual shooters are useless pawns and we shouldn't waste attention on them.
Sandra is bait, has unknown capabilities, unknown backup, is in a crowd of civilians, and has a demonstrated willingness to engage in mass civilian casualties as evidenced by the Splattercon affair.
And Molly is at 1/3 Essence.

The juice isnt worth the squeeze. We can use the scene as a foci for running her down later.

The actual shooters can actually be interrogated, used as Crown foci, or traded to the cops whose boss their organization killed.
And the RPG launchers they used definitely count as Crown foci.
Low hanging fruit.

I don't see that we're on the clock. We can lock them up for an hour or two while we chill in a bottle of bleach.
Cobbler appears to be on the clock.
That suggests things are coming to a head soon. Not sure how soon, but soon.

More critically, the fact that we were tracked suggests that whoever is running the suits has access to mundane surveillance capabilities in Las Vegas.
Which rather limits where we can choose to safely stay and recuperate Essence.

Ok then.

[X] Plan Industrial Light and Magic
-[X] Capture the pair with the RPGs
--[X] Tiffany uses Lore of light to blind them with a flash of light
--[X] Windborn Stride, pay 1 essence for 10X instant speed amplification
--[X] Slice their weapons with your sword, then use the flat of the blade to bash them.
-[X] Harry veils everyone
-[X] Lydia Opens the Way, and take everyone, van included, into NeverNever to escape from the cops

I am unsure about escaping to NeverNever, but otherwise, I think this is viable. It's advantageous for us not to go after Sandra this moment - we can track her using the crown (with this scene / records / attackers as the foci), and get her in her lair
We already have Occult Excellency running, so activating MHM costs less and avoids any close range surprises.

We can grapple both these guys at range and either choke them out or bash them unconscious; they had mortal dice pools of 5 dice each when shooting RPGs, so not really an issue.
We want both RPG launchers as Crown foci as well.

Like BronzeTongue said, blind jumps into the NeverNever are contraindicated.

QUESTION
@DragonParadox
1)Is the rental car damaged? Will it still drive? Or will we have to walk away and have Lydia summon her SUV from Chicago?
2)Did Molly hire the car with cash, or did she use any credit card/ID that can be tracked back to her?

  1. The car is fine, other than maybe damaged wheels
  2. She used cash, for pretty much this reason, it is not very unusual in Vegas, especially given how young she looks. The lady at the rental agency was just glad you were in a group so probably, hopefully not a Vegas wedding :V

So what we should do now is secure crown foci, back out, warn the Pallbearers of the Blampire, soak in bleach for an hour since we have 7/15 right now, then either go after Sandra or the Blampire. Sandra seems more important.

We can use ATP and flight to get to her location later after using the Crown to find her and the gate charm if she's in the nevernever.

It could be much simpler than that. The supernatural factions within the city are relatively well known, so it's not like it would be overly difficult for someone with even moderate resources to keep eyes on the seats of the factions' seats of power.

Mooks in hotel rooms using telephoto lenses, surveillance cameras, etc., would make it easy to monitor the comings and goings of those who interact with the factions, and it's not like we have been particularly subtle in our movements throughout Vegas so far.

Our group stands out pretty easily for anyone trying to track us once we are known. Lydia is obviously too young for the Vegas nightlife, Harry is unusually tall and his fashion choices distinctive, and Lash is ridiculously attractive.

Cool, we can still use it. Gonna need to HMP it though.
Excellent. No need to hack the rental company to corrupt their records.

Detecting that we came to Las Vegas? Yes, sure.

Arranging the ambush on the other hand required rather more than that. They had to actively have people in the rental offices keeping an eye out for people of interest and marking the vehicles that were rented, and then they had to activate the trackers in the rental car to follow the vehicle. Then
1) Get hitters with heavy weapons into the right position; noone has RPGs just lying around in the trunk of their car
2) Inform Sandra in time that she would make it to the party as well.

And remember, we've only been in Las Vegas maybe two or three hours. And we only just hired the car less than an hour ago
This particular ambush came together in less than an hour
Thats fucking impressive

[X] Plan Beatum up and Drive away
-[X] Capture the pair with the RPGs
--[X] Mind Hand Manipulation grapple pull them towards us.
--[X] Have Harry shot force punches at the while we hit in grapple.
-[X] Repair the car with tool-Transcending Construct
--[X] Throw the incapacitated in the trunk.

The logic behind this is. That even if it takes four rounds somehow of us applying continuous bashing damage that's still only about 24 seconds. With tool transcending constructs we have a 10 times multiplier on repairing machines so we would just be able to repair it in a minute maybe two or really pushing it 4 minutes. Then we can be resting in the car in a bottle of bleach and driving away from the scene before the cops even have a chance to respond.

This does stand on the reasoning that yeah you can have the occasional rocket launcher try to fire it into a major city but the second you do that the cities on high alert. To be honest I fully expect the criminal and legal scene in the city to be on high alert because people firing rocket launchers is so bad for business that it boggles the mind. The streets going to be crawling with leg Breakers looking for troublemakers for the next couple of weeks because someone just tried to shoot two RPGs into a moving vehicle on a major Road in Las Vegas.

That's not even getting into the supernatural business scene which they would definitely know something fishy is going on there. While the ferryman may not enforce or otherwise care about the rest of Vegas. Supernaturals with the currency he wants to trade getting the idea they might be shot at with rocket launchers on Main Street really is bad for business and you really don't want to be bad for a God's business.

VOTE
[X] Plan Shaken Not Stirred
-[X] Have Harry et al get back into the car and drive down three blocks or so, where you'll meet them
-[X] Capture the attackers and their RPGs
--[X] Activate ATP + Mind-Hand Manipulation: 2m
--[X] Choke/bash unconscious and restrain the hitters with additional bonds
--[X] Disarm of firearms. Grab wallets, phones and any paperwork, and have Clippy get pictures of the perps and run Internet searches
--[X] If they have a car nearby, loot it of anything of interest
--[X] Grab the RPG launchers as well, then fly to meet the rest of the party with your prisoners
-[X]Continue to the Hanging Gardens to drop off Mayeda and ask Arlene some additional questions
-[X]Call the Spring Reserve with a warning about Blampire interest

Remaining Essence: 7-2 = 5/15m

ACTIVE EFFECTS
Occult Excellency
Windborn Stride(passive)
Anonymity Through Propriety

RATIONALE
We already have Occult Excellency running.
So activate ATP to vanish from mortal attention, activate MHM (Int + Occult), beat our mortal attackers unconscious, grab their stuff, then fly out with their bodies in tow.

Id take Lydia as backup, but she isnt protected by ATP.

We have committed no crimes, and the car we're driving is fairly nondescript
As long as noone gets the license plates, which is rather more difficult at night, we shouldnt exactly be noticeable. If we get stopped, there's noone in the car that doesnt want to be there.

So just have Harry and the rest drive off at normal speeds, and stop around a mile away from the incident to wait for Molly. Molly will join them there with her prisoners, and they'll continue to the Gardens, with Molly flying
As long as she has ATP on, and is flying at least 50 feet up, noone mortal should be able to see her at night.

Ok then. Let's modify the plan then.

[X] Plan Industrial Light and Magic v.2
-[X] Capture the pair with the RPGs
--[X] Tiffany uses Lore of light to blind them with a flash of light
--[X] Activate MInd Hand Manipulation.
---[X] Use it to divest the shooters of their weapons, and then grapple them and bring it and them to you, where you and Lydia can bind them and knock them out
-[X] Harry veils everyone, car included
--[X] fly away - first up, then where you need to go, once you are out of sight

Something like this then.

EDIT: Changed driving away to flying away. We are faster that way.
