Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] If you do end up going to Harvard you might look them up then. For now... you're not going to go out of your way to meet the people who barely family even to their own daughter.

[X] No, they don't deserve to be part of your family after what they did to Mom

Honestly, I think we had enough plot hook for a few hundred chapters, at least.

I'm of two minds here; on one hand these guys don't sound like people we really need or want to know, on the other life changing trauma like the loss of a child changes people.

It's possible that they've changed or are changing, and it would be a shame to miss them if they're trying to be better.

There's also the fact that Charity seems to have been a serious talent in the making. Those do just happen sometimes, but more commonly it's inherited along the maternal line. Charity could have relatives from that side of the family who are suffering the same issues.

I'm not sure I want to speak with them, but learning more to see if it's necessary seems like a good idea.

[X] Use a mix of cyber devils and crown questions (via pictures from the internet) to get a better view of the status of Charity's extended family and what happened to her parents after she ran away.

This seems like a decent idea but I really don't think we need more plothooks right now...
Maybe, but I'm hoping we won't find immediate issues and that all the work/exp put into building leverage will let us do some things without too much additional AP hell. For example, if we learn we have a second cousin with a talent for potions being stalked by a minor Sidhe we could send a kill squad instead of going ourselves.

Cyber devils could help with exposing mundane abuse to the authorities and assist with getting out of the situation cleanly. Stuff like that.

It just feels wrong to me to cut out a whole branch of the family for doing something wrong without at least checking that we're not abandoning other people to the same situation we're upset about.

Too many plot hooks.

This is a character moment as much as a game decision. If we're voting not to engage purely for plot hook reasons could we also add something like "I've got too much stuff to work out myself right now, but maybe someday" to avoid just cutting off an entire branch of Molly's family because the two people most closely related to her in it are assholes?

Objectively, they handled Charity... arguably on par with how Charity handled Molly. Failed her in different ways, yes, and Charity's perspective is colored strongly, but quite possibly were no(t much) worse than Charity herself in at least some respects. Molly is maintaining her connection with her family, and working hard at it. And Molly's schtick so far has been redemption. We shall at least investigate, I feel. It has been 18 years, a lot could have happened.

EDIT: And, if nothing else, it's easy to find Charity's genealogy, and we have pissed off Red Court. We, and maybe Michael, are the only ones with shaping defenses in the family to protect us from bloodline destroying rituals.

I don't think they are important for Molly, but they might be useful for the head of a synthetic diamond company that is opening a branch office near Boston. Also, some time between learning about them and trying to interact is more likely for us to be able to treat them as distant relatives and not people who mistreated mom.

If that happens Michael is almost certainly going to get a heads up.

Great chapter, @DragonParadox. Really helps to flesh out Charity's background. Also kinda makes me want to go to Boston and surreptitiously rub her parents' noses in what they missed out on.

The poor woman certainly would have been better of with a more active first expression off magic. Something undeniable.

Having the Sight and no way to do anything about the monsters in our midst sucks.

Even Carlos or the girl in the Underways that we rescued were better off, even all the Cauldron talents.

Edit:Of course an Exaltation would be even better.
