Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Before we offer more exorcisms what's in our day planner?
Making Odin's pimp mobile is the only really pressing thing. Well that and the Last Station.

[X] All right, as much as you'd like to leave right now, you need to be thorough just in case. Do a check over Maeve mystically. Be sure that everything's fine. It should be, but it would not hurt to double check and be very damned certain there aren't any traps, fallbacks, or something else that could cause a relapse or vulnerabilities. This will also let you identify what sort of damage that was done, and perhaps also get you information on what the thing did.
-[X] Once you're done, give her any recommendations from a medical standpoint, and then head home. (Request an escort if it would be courteous.)

-[X] [Stunt]: Matching Maeve's attitude with an eye roll of her own, Molly replies "Fair play for a fair greeting. That was a juicy hint anyway. "
—[X] "It's particularly interesting that you remember so clearly what it was up to now that you're free."
—[X] " I won't presume to know the mind of Winter in these matters, but I will say that in the interests of shaped reality " and a newly personal grudge something in her tone whispered " I'd charge far more reasonable rates for lesser circumstances"
--[X] " It could even be fun; hunt it down, peel it out, mutilate the shard of the usurper on principle, then steal all the secrets it left behind" with a hungry smile that perversely seemed to start in her eyes Molly's tone grows slightly more conspiratorial " Who knows how many ages of delicate plotting might get thrown into chaos if someone starts digging their fingers into the soft spots?"
-[X] Turning slightly to encompass both of them in the conversation once more, Molly gives an almost questioning glance " But for the moment it seems to me all major terms have been satisfied this night"

Incidentally we now finally have some hard numbers on the Mab power level question. She did not seem to be holding back at all and had a whole hour to ready herself for those attacks.

Before we offer more exorcisms what's in our day planner?
Well, we get 6(+1 to continue on the ongoing projects) actions. We have school, Odin's weaponcrafting, Last Station, and magical martial arts training pretty much locked in. This leaves us two free actions. If we are getting the kingdom, one of those actions will have to be visiting said kingdom, naturally. This leaves one action. That's going to be (in my opinion), either helping Rosie's family situation, or contacting Olivia's divine ancestor to unf*ck her magic. DIvine ancestor is the more interesting option, while family drama is the more responsible one.

I mean you can have Harry look through your room... but that is going to take a willpower roll to overcome the embarrassment. :V

Put one of his pamphlets on magic that he distributes in a framing and hang it prominently. :V

Also in a bid to point Maeve towards something other than chewing through a platter full of sashimi mortals when she tries to come to terms with what happened.

"I am not addicted! I can stop whenever I want!"

*in the middle of a massacre*

Ignoring that, however, is the issue with it being completely insane to willingly bring hostile Angels, even when hobbled by being imprisoned in the Coins, into our soul. That's just an elaborate, drawn out form of suicide as far as I'm concerned. If we want to fuck around with the Denarians, we should do it when they're in mortal hosts.

Bah, I'm sure it would be fine.

*Turns to our newly developed fetish soul*

Isn't that right, totally not Lasciel?

What? Her name? Yeah, I admit, it is a little long, we tends to shorten it to Lasciel.

If we are getting the kingdom, one of those actions will have to be visiting said kingdom, naturally.

Do we take Harry or our dad with?

[x] BronzeTongue

Do we take Harry or our dad with?
I'm not sure we should take anyone on our first visit. On our second? Definitely Harry, and probably Bob too. I kinda want to hire Harry to do a "deep dive" - spend at least a month investigating our World-body to make a report afterwards. Prior to getting Splintered Gale Incarnation (which would be a priority after the kingdom, I feel), that's the best option to get a street-level experience about our kingdom.

First I get locked out of my original Hell WIP by a system crash, forcing a restart.
Now my notebook's charger is on the fritz with the current working draft, so cant get any work done on that for a couple days.

Lets see what this update is about.

-Permakilled the Nemesis shard after some fumbking.
One has to wonder how much of what happened here will be remembered by the rest of Nemesis; it doesnt have perfect multitasking, so there are probably bandwith limitations. Christmas definitely came early for Mab.

-Gonna note that Mab getting into magical combat with anyone is the sort of event thats magically noisy, and set off global alarms.
Never mind the Nemesis shard materializing, or the ancient sorcery use.
I dont think its going to be possible to hide what happened here. Probably hear it in Edinburgh.

-
Lines of blue light race though the shadow thing, fractures that give true shape to shapelessness for just an instant..."Poor broken things, cutting with your bleeding edges," it spits its malice upon the air, though on the last word it is no more. It almost looks like she gave the thing reality poisoning.
Reality poisoning sounds like raksha calcification. Pity that our Perception + Occult roll was so low.
The Fae=Raksha theory gets support from the Nemesis' shard's last words.

-Waking me up implies she was asleep during the exorcism. Or she might be colloqially referring to the exorcism itself.
No idea which is more likely.

-Maeve. Attempting to cover weakness with bluster. Very teenagerish.
I dont know if the Winter Lady Mantle incentivizes juvenile behavior in its bearers, or if its just Maeve playing up a role.Maybe a little bit of A, and a little of B.

But the woman is several centuries old.
Older than the United States, and older than almost every White Council wizard.
So the uninhibited lust demon act has to be deliberate, whether or not the teenage/young woman part is or is not.

-I will note that she told us somethings she remembers, not everything.
Might be that she needs time to put her thoughts together, might just be that she's practicing information control.

-Sandra Marling eh?
The woman who struck up a friendship with Molly when Molly was serving community service at a homeless shelter?
How far back did this plot go?

I mean, its explicitly stated that horror director Darby Crane(Madrigal Raith) was booked a year in advance for Splattercon.
Was Molly's arrest for drug possession at a party in 2005, the one that sent her into community service, a setup as well?
What of her friends(and ex-boyfriend's) addiction? Was that arranged as well to tempt her into action?

A lot of questions raised here.

-The fact that Marling went to Maeve for advice instead of simply having the information piped into her head means she isnt Nemesis-infected. Which implies she's working for him of her own will, despite being clued-in enough to know what the consequences are for getting people to break the Laws.

We might have our first Nephandus of the setting.

-Mab is definitely updating her dossier on Molly.
Because she saw us draw our demonsword for the second time, with the first time being at the museum. Just getting a look at current Usum probably shows some changes to someone with high Perception.

And thats assuming her file on Exalts isnt comprehensive.

-Not to gloat, but this is a prime example of the saying: You might not believe in [X], but [X] certainly believes in you.
We didnt have to be an Exalt, or even a properly trained wizard to be targeted by a Nemesis-influenced plot. Its worth keeping in mind that just because you dont want involvement with someone doesnt mean that person isnt going to take shots at you.

-With the current revelation, it suggests that the events of Proven Guilty were aimed at four groups simultaneously: the White Court, the White Council, the Winter Court and the Knights of the Sword. Which confirms that we're looking at the work of Outsiders; noone else we know of has a simultaneous interest in defanging all these groups.

-Sandra Marling is implicated in a plot against Winter, and specifically Mab and Mab's daughter. And Winter has resources beyond any other nationstate in the world. The manhunt will be the stuff of horror stories. The problem isnt finding her, its finding her before Winter does. Or before Nemesis and its associates has her throat cut, her body cremated and the dust scattered at sea.

-The revelation of Marling's perfidy opens up a plethora of Crown focuses. To run through a few:
  • The old man who was the first victim of a fetch
  • The cinema room where Rosie was attacked
  • Rosie's dead boyfriend's grave, and the other girl, Alice someone, who took damage in that attack
  • The hotel room where the final fetch attack happened
  • The cinema where the Way that the fetches used to kidnap Molly was located
  • Lucius Glau's grave
  • The van that Dresden, Thomas et al drove when fleeing from Eldest Fetch/the Scarecrow

And that does not include Sandra Marling-specific focuses: pictures of her face and body, her drivers license and car records, the apartment where she lived, the rental agreement, her old bank account, the community center where she first met Molly, her old telephone number, the Splattercon offices where she and others organized the horror movie convention, etc.

And thats without Molly drawing an identikit and turning it over to the cyberdevils.

The woman vanished thoroughly enough in canon that Dresden, a professional investigator with magic, couldnt find her.
So whoever she and her backers are, they are very good and very thorough.
But she just isnt rated for Exalted bullshit tho.

Unless she's an evil Sidereal.

Rolls arent bad.

The Nemesis shard has Willpower 10.
As expected of an optimized weapon.

Mab has a multiattack charm that does 3x attacks in a combat turn.
Which is a useful benchmark for what we can expect from very high end combatants.
And her attack pool is 23 dice at DC5.

Thats base 3CD-tier in Ex2, and >Ancient vampire tier in ExWoD.

Viewing Mab's Handiwork
Molly rolled 8 dice at DC6 for Perception + Occult, giving 2 successes.
She should have rolled 10 dice at DC3: Without Honor +2 dice because ice cold rink in October + magical iceberg + agitated Winter Queen, and -3DC from All Things Betray. Assuming average rolls we might manage to get 5 successes.

RATIONALE
Y'all appear to have forgotten that Molly can fly, at a top travel speed of 225mph.
Chicago at its greatest extent is 25 miles wide. Molly can be home in several minutes flying at full speed.

And IIRC, Mab saw Molly fly at the museum first time we had shintai active.
Its evening/nightfall and Mab summoned an early winter storm, so poor visibility from the ground, meaning its safe to fly at 50-100 meters altitude above ground level.

Just walk out past Mab's retinue outside, do the Superman thing and leave, and have Clippy tell Black Rider to drive home.

As for exorcisms?
They are a good thing on general principles; if Winter can do their jobs, we can focus on other stuff.
Also, Nemesis has fucked us personally, and we get to fuck right back.

Besides? Everytime they call us for a consult, we get an opportunity to acquire new Crown foci and more intel.
So frankly I'd do it for free, for the rep and Crown foci.

Gonna note that Mab getting into magical combat with anyone is the sort of event thats magically noisy, and set off global alarms.
Never mind the Nemesis shard materializing, or the ancient sorcery use.
I dont think its going to be possible to hide what happened here. Probably hear it in Edinburgh.
That would be a fair assumption to make, but that also assumes Mab didn't take additional steps to ward the ice rink while we worked. Given the location and importance of this event, I would be surprised if she wasn't able to block off most, if not all of the "noise" of our extracting and Mab shanking the Nemesis shard.

Acknowledgement that his job/task/experience was do and he could go. That was my take but I can see where you were coming from now.
A different poster pointed out that I come on a bit strong. Sorry about that. I have edited my post to hopefully fix it.
Its cool.
No offense taken.

Maeve is damaged goods. Can we please not try to befriend her?
So are the ghouls. So is Helen Beckitt. Some would say so is Molly.

Maeve is free real estate. She just suffered a major life event, and is potentially malleable.
We are a social Exalt, and we do some of our best work by talking to people. That requires being on good enough terms to talk to them regularly and non-hostilely. If we want change, we need to engage and see if we can move people's positions on stuff.

Remember, Nemesis!Maeve subverted Summer Lady Lily in canon just by being someone powerful willing to talk to her as an equal.
No possession. No magic. Just listening and lies. We can take notes and lessons from that.
What we shouldnt do is write someone off without even probing for a willingness, or capacity, to change.
I wanna use a favor to get magical materials.
I really want to use it to get a magical horse soul, iron touched by hellfire, and nuclear green food coloring to make a kickass, self piloting motorcycle that can turn into a horse to drop kick our enemies.
We already have gossamer from Iku-Turso, and didnt have to trade it to Mab and Winter.
And given that this is a WoD crossover, we know True Jade is a thing

I'm not suggesting she'll get the whole picture, but we sold this thing to her by demonstrating a highly unusual absolute power and then followed up by successfully executing an almost unheard of encore of the same grade.
I think our "shucks, she's just an ignorant kid" energy is at an all time low. Which is saying something.
Do recall that she saw us in shintai at the museum, and engaged in social combat where Molly forced a draw.
Other people might have been fooled by the ignorant kid act; I doubt she was ever taken in.

… do you think we would be able to contain the Coins within our inner world? There isn't much harder to meddle with then 'personal realm within the soul of an infernal'
Absolutely not.
At worst, I expect they'll simply teleport out of whatever vault we put them in.

If she couldnt hide the impact of her being driven in a car on Halloween?
I rather doubt she could hide throwing full-force magical punches at an Outsider.
Thats like trying to hide the activation of a nuclear weapon. Even detonating it underground sends distincive seismic ripples.

Besides, Im not sure she'd want to.
There's certain benefits in reminding people that the Queen yet has claws, and that they work just fine.

Rosie seems more relevant. Olivia is at least stable, and we haven't done an update for Rosie in a while.

We've got resources 4, so we should just be able to hand wave some stuff for her.

Family drama will go down 90% if she has an apartment and 'job' as a secretary at Chicago Synthetics to provide income and health insurance. She doesn't have to actually use it, but having an escape hatch is pretty psychologically helpful.

I also kind of want to see what Heaven's reaction is to an independent act of material creation. Think we can get Amoracchius to break character? Maybe get Uriel to show up with a housewarming present from the white god? :V

Do recall that she saw us in shintai at the museum, and engaged in social combat where Molly forced a draw.

Fair. I was thinking specifically in the context of knowing what she's doing than simple power though.

A murder monster with good socials isn't necessarily someone with the chops to play the big league magic games we just did.

It is more of an additional set of data points for the file than anything else though.

And thats assuming her file on Exalts isnt comprehensive.

We encountered, or at least heard of, magical black jade in-story already. It was used to hold our exaltation shard prior to it being excavated.

when making your hell could you please set the population at least comparable to a modern nation like Japan? Cause there's no way I'll vote for it with less than that. Also for the people to be mostly united as I don't want to have to fix that as we wont have time.

You joke, but the good question to ask is: do White God Rules apply inside our Kingdom? Because it's a world-body of a nascent Primordial not bound by Surrender Oaths or any equivalent. It's not, strictly speaking, located inside Creation, like Malfeas or Autochtonia weren't located in Creation. It's its own thing, with its own metaphysical laws defined by Molly's charmtree. Depending on how this goes, Lash wouldn't be bound to Dresden while inside of our Kingdom, and Amorachhius would be allowed to manifest and directly fistfight her, or just go to a bar or something, all without Falling.
On one hand the first visit does seem personal, but on the other the looks on their faces would be great and familiar characters can help meditate otherwise difficult to ground scenes.
Definitely arguable. For now I am gravitating towards making our own personal visit first, to get whatever ceremony there is out of the way, and then inviting guests.

technically its part of our soul right? So if you think about it soul rules might apply for other parties if only because their coded to having to follow said rules.

Given the number of mistakes she made, starting with giving us Ligier's title, it's definitely not.
She knew what Ligier was and that being an internal meant being a green sun prince/princess, so she clearly has some deep lore by the standards of the day.

How much deeper is an interesting question, but it's clearly more than anyone short of Heaven has implied to us.

I figure some of that stuff comes with you. The Kingdom is explicitly forged inside the infernal's essence of their own will, so I'd buy that it doesn't have the same high level rules imposed on it, but that doesn't mean the things individual people agreed to are null while there.

There's also the whole bit where the white god might not really give a shit about the where. He'd just wait to punish till they got home if he couldn't do it on the spot.

It is a matter of taste to an extent. Grounding the new in the old is important for binding stories together, but it isn't absolutely necessary to make it work.

She knew what Ligier was and that being an internal meant being a green sun prince/princess, so she clearly has some deep lore by the standards of the day.
No, she didn't. She thought that our title was "The Green Sun That Was Before the Sun". That's not knowing what Ligier was. That's conflating Ligier with Infernal Exalted, which is definitely wrong.

The second one could present an interesting possibility where Harry with Lash go in, Lash breaks some minor rules there, like physically manifesting, and then gets trapped on the inside fearing retribution.

In any case, that's something to consider, especially if this in principle allows good guys to do stuff without breaking the rules and letting bad guys act more freely in retribution.

On one hand the first visit does seem personal, but on the other the looks on their faces would be great and familiar characters can help meditate otherwise difficult to ground scenes.

The look on their face is absolutely the reason why I want to take them with us on the first visit, because it creates maximum impact due to not being able to tell them exactly what to expect, which would lead to a very interesting view if we manifest in something like the throne room of Yog's proposition, with all the one present instantly kneeling and chanting our praises.

No, she didn't. She thought that our title was "The Green Sun That Was Before the Sun". That's not knowing what Ligier was. That's conflating Ligier with Infernal Exalted, which is definitely wrong.
That's not what she said though:
"That task belongs to another, a mortal. I am the Queen of Winter and need no other title as you need none but the Green Sun-That-Was-Before-The-Sun upon your brow. Offer thine counsel and I shall promise to take it in the spirit it was given. The cup has now been drunk almost to the dregs, the sword not red with blood but black for how many times it has been spilled and only the staff is left to hold in place the Wheel."
All she did was identify that our green nuclear hate fire had an older origin than Lanka. That's not a literal title, she's saying we need no more announcement than the nature of our exaltation on sight alone.

Depending on how far you care to read into it she's simply acknowledging the source or actively referring to us as crowned in the green sun, which is functionally just an indirect way of saying green sun princess.

Even if you don't buy that she isn't saying anything about Ligier other than that he existed and is connected to us.

Maybe, but Lash is still underdeveloped in terms of her redemption arc right now and it's hard to gauge when she was actually far enough along that we could provisionally trust her.

Especially because her being willing to change herself in one way for one thing, love of Harry and possibly her new daughter for example, doesn't necessarily translate to changing in other ways for other people.

Pretty sure it's canon she did stuff like facilitate the multiple plagues and other cheery projects like that. She's personable, but don't forget who Lash is.
