Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

What matters isn't just external watchers but also Eiko's interpretation of the orders she's been given. If she doesn't know open hostilities have broken out she may have more freedom for creative reinterpretation.
Also; the devils watching her may not have their orders updated.
No.
Given the discovery that Eiko isnt in overall command of this party, Eiko's interpretation doesnt matter.
She has a boss a cellphone call away. Her effective discretion is zero.

The devils or bakemono that were watching Tuzi when we approachrd her managed to get in contact with the greater akuma fast enough that less than ninety minutes passed between our meeting Tuzi at around 3.21am their starting an attack on Last Station at some time before 5am, and Jack calling us at 5am.

Cellphones are evidently something they use.
By your logic, we could have used MiS on Arawn and Mab would have been unable to do anything to him. He's part of a class of entity 'vassals of Winter' who is vulnerable to their bosses' authority.

Similarly, if we recruit some Chicago cops to our service, by your logic it's impossible for their bosses to sack them or discipline them if they're insubordinate.'Chicago cops' is a cross of being.
Mab was already unable to do anything to him remotely; thats why he was able to keep moving around the world.
She could shoot him in the face, but that required a face to face meeting. Similarly Mab wasnt able to do anything to Lloyd Slate remotely. MiS doesnt protect you from being physically attacked.

Chicago cops arent supernaturals.
Even though some of them might wish for tnat sort of impunity.
Wasn't Devsimar skeptical about the whole thing?
Devsimar is undoubtedly also aware of the story of Tashimoto Hanko. Greater akuma of Emma-O.
Who plotted rebellion right under Emma-O's nose and pulled it off.
And got away clean.

We are very likely to be rolling both. And NWS still seems superfluous.
See Bella.
Knowing her darkest shame has colored our interactions with her, and made it much easier to manage her since we know what makes her tick. This would apply even more to a centuries old servitor of a Yama King.

This is the equivakent of getting a look at the personal diary of a diplomat before negotiating with them.
I cant think of any reason why we wouldnt do it.

And no, we dont need to roll both. Formality is something thats only a must when you're dealing with peers.
The powerful have the prerogative of ignoring social norms; thats why you see bosses calling people of lower status by their first name, while lower status people go with "Title" first, whether its Mister, Doctor, Lord etc.

@Alratan the way Molly figures is is if a Lesser Akuma goes into a mission with the desire to win back their freedom it stands to reason that they have some plan to do so. Now maybe that plan will not work, or is already known to their lord, but you are kind of in a time crunch here so 'show up, make the offer and hope something comes together' is the best you can do followed by 'kill them so the other bunch does not get reinforcements'.
Also worth remembering that Tashimoto Hanko was a greater akuma of Emma-O in the 13th century, who is famous for staging a raid on Emma-O's capital with the aid of some shen and at least one wizard, breaking into the treasury, seizing the receptacle supposed to contain his soul, and fleeing.

Thousand Hells p116-117 said:
One of the greatest generals of the uji no Bishamon, Tashimoto
Hanko was a Devil-Tiger warrior who was instrumental in the
successful defense of the Azure Dragon Court from invading
Korean and Chinese Kuei-jin after the invasion of 1274. Said to
be of unearthly cunning and possessed of strength beyond even
the mightiest of the Guan Ren, Tashimoto was worshipped by his
troops. Yet after the invaders were successfully thrown back and
the kamikaze destroyed the second invasion fleet, Tashimoto was
accused of Lesser Commerce with the Yama Kings by one of his
fellow Devil-Tigers, the yojimbo of Clan Bishamon's daimyo.
Hanko fled rather than stand trial, and it was only after much
investigation that it was ascertained that Hanko had not orily
been engaging in Lesser Commerce, but had in fact accepted the
Pact of Ebony and Scarlet Jade several years before the invasion
of Japan, Indeed, training in Yomi was at least partially respon-
sible for his great prowess.

Yet this was not Tashimoto's greatest trick. Several decades
'after his flight to the court of his patron
Emma-o, the island of Japan seemed to
turn upside down. Kumo and bakemono
walked openly during the daytime,
black magicians were found murdered
fat crossroads with the marks of the
shikame on them, and packs of Hakken
known to have walked the Ebon Maze
Were seen searching across the coun-
tryside. After weeks of turmoil, two
Kumo who knew the purposes of this
seemingly pointless activity were cap-
tured, and they revealed a story unique
in the annals of the Yomi World.
Tashimoto, with the assistance of a
number of shen including a powerful
Dragon Wizard, had stormed the gates
of Emma-o's treasury, seized the gold and
jade vase which contained his soul, and
then fled along the Ebon Road toward
Japan. Emma-o was furious, and would
stop at nothing to recapture Tashimoto
Hanko and his accomplices.

Yet, though the servants of
Emma-o combed the entirety of Ja-
pan (and much of China and Korea as
well), they never located Tashimoto Hanko. For six centuriei
now, Tashimoto Hanko has gone without being seen or heard
from, and despite the fact that Emma-o offers a massiv^f eward
for information that even hints at his location, his whereabouts
have never come to light. It is as if he had stepped off the edge of the world.
He and his accomplices have evaded pursuit for over six centuries.
Emma-O still has a price on his head, and yet was unable to even track him, let alone withdraw the powers tnat he'd been given.

Yama Kings are pretty powerful entities.
Yama Kings are nowhere as powerful or knowledgeable as they would like people to think in canon World of Darkness, and a lot of their power is tied to their institution and geographical are of their Hell, not personal.

This goes even more so in a ExWoD/Dresdenverse cross, where Free Will is much more rigorously enforced, and people of human ancestry can straight up defy the will of much scarier entities than YKs like Fallen Angels and free themselves by deciding to throw away a Coin. Like Sanya did at the age of 21. Or how Cassius dropped his Coin.

I really don't like Yog's vote of presenting ourselves as "the people of Chicago." We hired so many mercenaries, and put ourselves into debt to do so, because we wanted to make a statement about the consequences of messing with our people. This is supposed to be Molly's big flex to show why she isn't someone to be trifled with. This is supposed to be about what allies and resources Molly can dig up if she feels sufficiently motivated. And it's supposed to reassure our minions by showing that messing with our minions is enough to get us "sufficiently motivated."

Yog's "people of Chicago" plan completely undermines that, and eliminates half the purpose of getting so many mercenaries and putting ourself in so much debt to make a statement about what happens to people who cross us. At that point we might as well have gotten less mercenaries and just taken them out without worrying about the message or optics at all.

It's also sort of weird in context. They came here to start shit with us, not expand their territory or something. The message of unity is nice and all, but pretty much everyone is here because of Molly one way or another and not for some community ideal.

Would there be strong objection to me adding IPM to my plan among the people voting for it?

I forgot to do so when I initially wrote it, and we probably should have it up from the start so we don't have a coverage gap. It's reflexive so it would likely be fine, but it wouldn't be the first time we saw an issue related to this.

Edit: autocorrect inverted the meaning of that last sentence.

Go for it. I have no problems with it. We have at least one hostile with confirmed mind control powers there, it's a reasonable precaution.

It is community ideal though, isn't it? They came to mess with one of the community. Killed other, arguably lesser members of it. So the members of community unite and kick them in the teeth. Molly is the reason they are here, but the damage isn't only to her. At the very least, and regardless of Molly's involvement, they have infringed upon Dresden's jurisdiction, as Warden Commander of White Council by messing with human practitioners, Murphy's jurisdiction by killing USA citizens. They have arguably messed with Michael (they are forces of hell, and his mission is to stop them). The only people here that are here only because of Molly are Lydia, Gard and possibly brother Divsimar (damn it, I just can't memorize his name).

I agree that it's weird though. I like your vote. Moreover, I think it has higher chances of success in getting Eiko to bend the knee.

Also, I kinda think that we might have the situation wrong here. Eiko might be the loyalist leader, and Greater Akuma might be the rebel. Why? Because they are the ones with "exalt to be" J.

Yes, they must have a plan, that's what I'm saying.

If they've found a loophole in their orders we need to know what it is to also exploit it. If we don't know it would be very easy to simply blunder into one of them as make it impossible for me to defect.

This entire argument is because I've said we need to use the Crown to find out what their plan or those orders are so we can tailor our approach to fit it.

Also, I kinda think that we might have the situation wrong here. Eiko might be the loyalist leader, and Greater Akuma might be the rebel. Why? Because they are the ones with "exalt to be" J.

Hence why we need to ask why the plan is!

We're going in blind for no good reason and could easily screw things up.

Nobody here knew about what the Akuma were doing until we told them, and more than half probably wouldn't have acted if it stayed at normal predation levels.

Micheal doesn't patrol for vampire shit, Dresden only notices if you put on your big boy serial killer pants or off someone he cares about, Devisimar doesn't do this sort of thing in this town, Lydia's still a kid, and Gard is a mercenary.

The only person here who'd be on the case without another 4 bodies, sheer coincidence, or active recruitment is Murphy.

I'm thinking that unless we have a very good idea as to how she plans to flip, we won't be able to flip her. To say nothing of the possibility that she is not, in fact, the one who plans to betray Emma-O…

@BronzeTongue adding a question makes sense - if we get Eiko to flip we recover 2 essence points. That should be enough to afford one crown question. And we might even get 2 from the question itself.

Crown of Eyes costs essence and at this point she either cooperates or is dust, expending her as a focus and using a question isn't really worth it.

The issue is that if we take the wrong approach we may easily walk into one of the unbreakable orders that Lady Eiko is operating under.

Say she has a standing order to act in the best interests of Emma-O but has convinced herself that not having an unreliable servant like her is that. If we word her defection the wrong way she may not be able to convince herself that the loss of face of her defecting in front of so many people doesn't override that concern.

We really need to know the constraints she's operating under so we don't run into an order she cannot break,

And the orders/plan is very likely a supernatural secret so would be essence positive.
