Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Sort of want to use Naked Wicked Souls on Bella just to get a better read on her.
Hmm... And why not, actually? This would be a good opportunity for it to manifest narratively. She came to our mundane school intruding into our mundane life. We could weigh her soul and see if she can actually be made a friend. To see how serious we need to treat this.

[X] Use Naked Wicked Souls on her, with Empathy excellency. You need to know, what you are actually dealing with, here.

[X] Set some ground rules

-[X] No permanent harm to people at the school. Not unless there's genuine danger to her life, like a rape attempt, and she can't handle the situation without it. And you'll be checking by the the spirit of the rules, not the wording. You are not a fey.
-[X] No talking about supernatural stuff to people not in the know, she might be able to get away with it indefinitly, but Molly is weird enough that people might actually make a connection. If she does, you'll convince everyone in the school that she's a vampire chuuni, and you'll make her behave like that too. Her name can even be shortened to Bella.

[X] Maybe you could make use of her
-[X] Can she tutor in math?
--[X] "Sure, you decided to show up here, now, asking for a task. A task for you I have."
-[X] Explain more about the unseen world to Izzy and Alec, from a...novel perspective
-[X] Explain the story of the almost-deadly selfy from two months ago. Ask her to make sure that the responsible people would not bully their juniors again anytime soon. She has plenty of time to get to know people here and make a plan, no rush.

I actually want to see her perspective. It's interesting to me.

Don't like this. Too much micromanagement. Plus threats aren't good for long term working relationships.
It's not meant as a serious punishment. It's meant to set a lighter tone. Not a "Dread god-queen of hell masquerading in human skin ordering her soul-bound slave around", but "If you talk about my secrets, I'll embarrass you in front of the whole school in retaliation". Did I fail that badly in making the intent clear?

I don't know what her Wits + Subterfuge* is, but (Perception + Empathy)X2 is just 12 dice and I would very much like to get 5 successes**. Although I suppose nothing in NWS stops you from using it again on someone. But if you want to make sure ATB reduces the DC by 3.

* It actually might not be that high after all she is another highschool student.

**[With five or more successes she may even learn details the target himself doesn't know, such as longterm consequences of his sin which would further compound his guilt.] Which I expect to teach us something about her family.

Also we honestly aren't personally invested in the masquerade. Certainly not enough to go to extra effort to enforce it ourself.
I'm not invested enough to threaten her, but Molly really does stand out.

Less so now, that our appearance is above 1 and our Cold Touch no longer quite as strong, but still.

I have little interest in appearing even weirder to the regular people. So a little bit of masquerade isn't too bad here, in a few month we'll shed most of the "regular life" anyway, being a tech-millionaire at age 18.

Hmm, ok, yeah. Adding ATB. Genuinely forgot about it. Also @DragonParadox does DPE affect difficulty of NWS roll? It's kinda-sorta social, maybe. Or maybe not. The roll is against a social stat of the target.
Yes. Sorry, that doesn't really work.
Oh, well... Can't have them all.

Then we should make the demand "Don't betray my secrets" not "Don't break the masquerade".
But "Don't (intentionally) betray my secrets" seems a bit too serious to only enforce with a silly threat. Better to just make it an absolute statement.

On the other hand, remember, teenagers. "embarrass you in front of the whole school" is a really serious threat. But not really a good one.
Hmm, I would sort of compare it to "never do your enemy a small injury". Public embarrassment would be painful, but all it would do is build resentment.

We are only here for a few more month their opinions of us don't matter in the least.

It's kinda proportionate to the consequences of her breaking the rule... Actually, it's a bit hypocritical of us to set this rule, now that I think about it. We are breaking the masquerade to our friends. If she makes some, why can't she? I am changing this part of the vote to an obvious "no breaking the masquerade in an attempt to make Molly's life hard"

I need to know what tone you want to take before I can shape that with skills.
If we had our Hell then Queen of the [hell's name] would work. Currently our biggest title is leader of the Jade Dogs.

Although I still find it a little weird that we bought etiquette 5. It is one of our least rolled skills. Empathy tends to be our goto in social situations and it's only 4.

Maybe get rid of [Her] in "her life". I would actually be pleased as punch if she acted to protect someone else. But we likely don't need careful wording Molly has better social skills then most of us.

Goes against the rules we just set in the same vote.
No permanent harm. Though a bit of mental or physical scars might be grey area.

No permanent harm at the school. Outside the school pupils of the school are fair game by a by the letter reading of the rules, and she may think it's that kind of challenge.

If she thinks like that it's better we find out quickly so we can change tack from overlord to overenthusiastic minion to the much less fun parole officer to detainee.

Should we also tell her that boys named Edward are off the table, no matter how much she wants them?

Just to bring up the "give mortals Essence" Charm from some time ago, DP mentioned that we might invent that, though being inspired by the regular training Charm would be a step on the way.

We have by now quite a few people who would benefit from our trainig:
-The older of our siblings
-Olivia and possibly other interested members of the Cauldron
-Our regular friends at school plus Rosa
-Our minions in Undertown

Some of those would also profit from awakened Essence, particularly any Sorcerers, but that's another step.

OOC: Now we see how Molly deals with minions that are not so well intention-ed as Thomas, nor as desperate as the Jade Dogs

That was pretty gutsy of the kid considering where we left off last time.

Mab is an embodiment of winter's cruelty, not its fairness. It's very possible that being fair is genuinely impossible for her, given winter's association with arbitrariness like sudden snowstorms, late frosts and similar misfortune.

She'll always deliver the letter of a deal while always trying to make a cruel mockery of its spirit.

She's deeply and fundamentally evil; and possibly has no choice not so be. However; like Emma-O, the world is where she keeps her stuff, and so on her current role she may be a tragically necessary evil.[/indent]
This is wrong, or at least inaccurate.

Evil is at least to some extent a subjective evaluation, and there's plenty of reason to think Mab is by many standards, but she isn't a demon lord and her reason to protect reality isn't to keep her storage unit clean.

Mab as orchestrator of all is just a little much for me to swallow. Seems like she loses a lot more than she gains, and I don't think Mab is big on coming out behind in her negotiations.

Yeah. It sure looks that way from here, don't it. :)
But to correct some minor stuff: the fetches aren't even /close/ to her strongest servitors. They're her couriers, harassers, spies and occasional assassins. Captain Kudzu was a being that was deemed more-or-less sufficient on the badassometer, but nothing to write home about. The fetches main use, to Mab, isn't as battlefield thugs. She's got /plenty/ of other things for that. Another mild correction: who says Mab /lost/ the battle at Arctis Tor, before Harry and Company arrived? At the end of the day, the Winter Queen was still in her fortress–but you didn't see anyone standing around assaulting the place, did ya. :) Also, it has probably occurred to more than one of you that if Mab was /really/ in trouble, she could have had the entire military might of Faerie back at the fortress in moments–exactly the way they *did* come back when Harry smacked the Winter Well with the fires of Summer.
(Which goes to show that while Mab may be canny to an inhuman degree, she isn't infallible. Just way closer to infallible than us.)
See above regarding "the question is *why*?"
Ask yourself why Mab had Molly brought in. What chain of events did that set in motion? What secondary effects came about because of it? Ultimately, Mab can always go to the Wyld and draw in more muscle to replace fallen thugs. If worst comes to worst, with just a few "seed" fae, she could rear up enough Changelings to repopulate her cadre within a human generation or two–nothing, to a being thousands of years old.
As far as she's concerned, everyone and everything is expendable, including herself, when it comes to adhering to her (seemingly irrational and inexplicable) priorities.
(And by the way–don't think Titania is much better. When push came to shove, she let her own daughter be murdered rather than upset the balance of the Faerie Courts. At least Mab is up front about it. Usually.)
Sacrifice her best troops? Mab would sacrifice every creature *in* Winter, every one she could bring from Summer, and every single mortal on planet Earth if that's what she thought was appropriate. And she wouldn't even need to add extra sugar to her cup of tea afterwards, much less lose sleep over it.
But no one does cold-blooded like the Queen of Winter. Mab's been in the business a long time, she's got a balance sheet, and she is *not* going to come out in the red–

–unless, of course, she really *has* stripped a gear, as Lily and Maeve believe. In which case there's a stark raving bonkers demigoddess whose powers are no longer being held in check by the Escher-esque code of Sidhe behavior. And that's all kinds of bad.
But hey. It's probably not that. I mean, not *everything* that happens can be the absolute worst possible possibility, right? >:D
Jim

From a certain, and very reductive, perspective Mab is a supernatural paperclipper who's value function is keeping Outsiders on their side of the gates.

Mab is cold, calculating, and ruthless. She still feels emotions, and acts on them at times, but her overriding concern is the business of fulfilling Winter's purpose.

Maeve is the embodiment of the sort of venal cruelty and sadism you're talking about.
