Because it just wasn't enough. Dragging him out of his bed and taking it would have been funnier. Although if I recall correctly, Ichigo doesn't go home for a week after he starts training with Urahara anyways. So we could have screwed with Karin by pretending to be his ghost until he got back.

Anyways, doing this gets Tatsuki involved. Which also screws with Ichigo's life.

Basically what The LD Man said. She was severely underutilized in canon and I think she had more potential than many of the characters in Bleach, but Kubo took her nowhere.
