[X] Get help with your garganta
Should you stick close to Tatsuki today? There's no way she'll be able to defend herself with anything but words until she gets stronger, but maybe you can be close enough to sense strong hollows before they find her? You've got what you like to think is a fairly good head for directions, though the white stone this city is made of mutes spiritual power as it passes through it. It doesn't cut it out completely, but there's definitely a difference in the amount of pressure you feel from the monstrously powerful woman no more than fifty feet away. Not that you could have sensed her anyway before she hit you on the head with an apple.
You remember the batting machine, the horrible unfair batting machine for one brief moment. The next apple is in the air and you're on your feet, legs wide in a steady stance, Zangetsu up to-
The apple thumps lightly against your chest.
Oh. Right. Your inner hollow got cute yesterday and changed what size he is in the real world. You've got to remember that you're not running around with a blade at long as you are, which is going to take some getting used to. Maybe there are upsides to it being smaller?
Tatsuki throws another apple at you and you catch it. "Thanks for breakfast."
"You're welcome. A bowl of fruit showed up overnight, and the others didn't want any of it."
You're not really hungry but you take a bite regardless. It's a pretty nice apple, juicy but not very tart. Very red. "Souls just taste better for hollows. Imagine eating really rich food for your whole life, and then having somebody offer you a bowl of plain dry breakfast cereal. I can still enjoy human food because I've got a lot of memories of enjoying it, and haven't eaten a lot of souls."
Nelliel seems distracted, but directs you to a public training courtyard with a polite "I hope your day goes well."
It seems like being a fraccion doesn't automatically come with a lot of complicated daily duties to worry about.
Tatsuki steps into the center of the ring and puts up her hands in a ready stance, and hell. You hate to disappoint a lady.
You tuck your sword into the waist of your pants where there's a little sheath and let the long white shirt cover it. "Today we're not going to train your power. You're good with your power, but you're still used to moving quicker than other people. You're gonna have to break that habit, and it's going to hurt. I'd say sorry, but you're literally asking for this and I like hurting people, so I'm not."
Your friend spits on the ground. "Let's just get this over with."
She holds up pretty well through about an hour of escalating pressure. You start out trying to capture the speed that Ichigo used before he received Rukia's power, and at that level Tatsuki manages to get a few hits in to balance out the punches you lay into her, but once you start upping the speed and power with spiritual energy she starts lagging behind. For the entire second half she doesn't try a block without dodging at the same time, which is what you were hoping for.
Yo- Ichigo might not be the smartest kid at Karakura High, but he's far from stupid, and recognizes patterns easily. He's great with people too, a real social butterfly when he wants to be. He's got a natural charisma. You've inherited some of that, but what really makes you a better fighter than him (outside that he's willing to kill when absolutely necessary and you're just willing to kill) is that he's a natural born fighter and you were born to fight.
It's a small difference of phrasing, but it's important.
Every blow you send at Tatsuki's head is faster, harder, aimed at her ears and cheeks to really make them sting, and gradually she focuses more and more on protecting her vital spot. "The human body can heal from a lot of things, but if your brain goes you go too!" You shout after sending your training partner halfway across the courtyard in a wild tumble. "Unless you want to find out the hard way whether your power lets you regenerate your brain exactly right, focus on protecting your head."
She nods, panting too hard to actually breathe. Hopefully that lesson's been internalized.
You let your spiritual pressure fall back down to your normal level -you didn't bother using your mask-, and immediately the karate girl's breath evens out, no longer constricted by the weight of your intent to kill.
"Are you done with that?"
You whirl around. "Who said that?"
"I did."
The effect is gradual, like a chameleon changing from the same green as the leaves around it into more vivid colors. The outline of the seats on one edge of the training room shifts out of alignment with the seats around it. A tall man emerges, with tanned skin, a square jaw, a white jumpsuit, and bulbous goggles that make his eyes seem larger than they are. His bright red hair is slicked back and greasier than the smile on his face. "My name is Lloyd, newcomer, and I am the current Octava Espada."
"Current?" You feel him out with your spiritual energy. He feels about as strong as Shawlong, maybe a little stronger but not much.
The arrancar shrugs. "The higher numbers, they come and go with the seasons. A wise hollow plans to challenge his superiors and advance out of them as soon as possible, and reach a more stable climate. Now as to the matter of your food. Are you done playing with it?"
"That's what I thought you said." You frown, and weigh the odds. Zangetsu's smaller, but it's not less. It should have the same power in a smaller area, then, which might give you an edge you're not used to. You can take him.
The Octava narrows his eyes. "Is there a . . . problem?"
Well this is a bit of a problem, yes. How to refuse him . . . Vote for one. If the winning option fails the others will be tried in descending order of votes.
