Firebird, a Worm AU/Xover?

You know, all this recon out of existence crap is making think Taylor got the powers of the bad wolf in Doctor who.

"I give you life!"

...

I wonder if anyone is immortal now from being rezzed.

Well. I'm considering how to start 3.7 while I eat delicious roasted potatoes.

And whether one way I have in mind of starting it off would just make more people upset because it doesn't explain wtf happened at the end here and follows someone else.

The relationship between author and reader is fundamentally sadomasochistic. Feel free to apply the whips of dramatic tension and thumbscrews of suspense - we'll only cry out for more.

I haven't been all the way through the thread, so I'm not sure if someone's used this yet, but Coil?

Because, quite frankly, poking the teenagers with superpowers guaranteed you a Darwin Award sooner or later. It's just that this time, it was a lot sooner. Wonder how Dinah is right now?

Wait a minute. Was that the Doctor looking over Taylor?
Penlight, ridiculous credentials, accented voice, John Smith, and pair of glasses.
Why that was the Tenth Doctor.
Why was he there then?

Because Taylor has suffered enough and the doctor doesn't want Phoenix to rampage and consume Taylor and the rest of Earth Bet just yet.
Or it's just a reference.

Taylor - Why Do I feel like your lying to me?
Doctor - Well naw, why would a majestic avatar of space and time think like that?
Taylor - You really say the strangest things doctor.
Doctor - But ya love me just the same dontcha? *Cheeky intensifies*
Taylor - Yeah.

Honestly thought that the hospital scene was a 'fakeout' introduction to Coil's affably being evil, but then it wasn't.

(Disclaimer: Personal opinion ahead.)

I really, really hate the combination of 'Oh god I've lost a week', and 'offscreen, something awesome/crazy happened!". It feels somewhat like a cheap way to sidestep the conflict/whatever actually happened in an effort that oft comes off as trying to be mysterious, and since we as the readers can make a somewhat decent intuition of what's coming in the ensuing 'digging up' of said information, it also drags on the subsequent chapters down as well, especially since it's key in 'upping' Taylor's access to the PF.

I don't know that Taylor's PoV would have been better, specifically, but a combination interlude of Coil's frustration as things start to shift out of control, TT's fear and slowly increasing knowledge pool of what Taylor can do, and/or their WTF-ery as Taylor gets closer to losing her shit would have at least helped in this regard, especially since you previously espoused his 'failsafe plan' to keep her contained.

But moving on....

Taylor's stay in the hospital is well detailed, though I'm curious on her even losing the conversation with Minako, Catherine, and Lisa. Just the drugs having that much of an amnesiac effect, or PF protecting her from mental trauma given what happened to Jean? (Also, the Doctor/nurse seem a bit unconcerned with a 15 year old being drugged for a week. Not necessarily unkind, but....not really caring, if that makes sense)

sidenote: would she really be calling the abandoned loft 'home' after having stayed there for a bit? I suspect it's probably a 'mad at Danny' thing, but it still felt a bit odd.

Dauntless not recognizing a girl named Taylor until the very end is odd, as unless I'm remembering wrong, the Protectorate were given more information than the Wards on Taylor, even if it didn't include her civilian ID at the time (as Assault had to figure it out on his own), at least if she's been off the grid for a week, with the ABB going on a rampage and the PRT 'having' to let the E88 go (which, uh, WTF is going on there with Piggot), they'd be searching for Taylor to make sure she wasn't on Kaiser's list for reprisal. Also, unless Catherine and Minako got hit with the same knockout stuff, saying 'oh yeah, Taylor's missing' to Vicky seems a bit underwhelming, even if in the grand scheme of things, they're small-fry.

Anywho, Taylor's level of ability with the telepathy is intuitively seemingly better than Jean's, which is good, or she'd probably lose her shit, since there's no Professor-X expy here to help.

And at the end of it all, Krouse is an utter moron. If Taylor puts 2 and 2 together with her previous sense of being teleported....But in any event, we've now got the Travellers, and Lisa if she's still up and kicking, in Taylor's debt. I almost wonder if Taylor's going to try and pull a page out of New Wave's handbook, and try and make an independent, 'oh hey look we've got shittons of money and the girl who owns it owes me big time', style hero team.

...Though, comments since the chapter about Lisa being 'confused' about Coil don't make sense. Unless the timeline's been rewritten to have Noelle just approach Taylor directly, and Lisa's now off doing her own thing and never gotten involved, that feels....wonky.

The 'blank space' still bothers me, a lot, but in the grand scheme of things, there are worse things to quibble over. If anything, I'm a little wary of the telepathy receiving the same 'strong/used-as-often as the plot demands it' metering as the precog.

Also somewhat curious on that deeply buried nugget Taylor hinted at in Vicky's head, but barring the two going separate ways, I'm sure we'll get more info on that at some point.

The 'Dauntless doesn't recognize her' thing Is something I also noticed as 'odd.'

Because I would expect as part of her wards application or in one of the meetings with her, somebody would have a picture and the protectorate members should at least be familiar with her face imho.

But then again, Danny might not have provided one in the initial application and after the papers were filed, he didn't seem too keen on meeting with any of them.

One possibility is that when Phoenix took over, it saw the Simurg programming in their brains, and let them live since they were not fully in control of their own actions when they kidnapped her (and as a bonus, deprogrammed them).

I could see Taylor accepting "We were Simurghed!" as a valid justification. Especially since she can see their thoughts and know that its not a lie.

I like this idea. The Phoenix and The Simurgh, waging a mental battle over the minds of humanity. I could see Taylor going to the quarantine centers to help the scream victims down the line.

As per the rest of the chapter, she's emaciated and a bit dehydrated, and that can change your look a lot. Her coat doesn't even fit her at the moment, it's very loose on her. Seeing a picture of someone (and seeing them in costume) and then seeing someone in the hospital that's all stick thin and not dressed the same way at all, it's a huge difference. Plus, Dauntless is worn out from the last week or so, still worried about there being more bombs, and well, bob's your uncle, he didn't put two and two together until it was to late.

That's ultimately why I dont see it as that big a deal, considering he did put it together eventually.

I was just recognizing that I noticed it.

"Ugh, what a me-did I schedule the date at six or eig-eedle marks around the neck. Repeated dr –" I hissed at the sudden rush, closing the breach. The seal had more mental weight behind it than it probably needed, reducing the 'noise' to almost nothing.
I swear, sometimes Doctor Smith is the most exasperating… I have my licensing… why am I stuck fetching laundry while that… that airhead just prances in with his ridiculous credentials from wherever he had gone and takes over…
Okay, that was definitely the Doctor. Extra-strong mental wall? Weird time units?

"Sorry, Dauntless," I thought and I could almost see him skid to a halt, looking around wildly. Then I dropped my contact with his mind and left the hospital behind.
You done goofed, Taylor. Now Dauntless knows about the telepathy. Whether he tells Piggot is up in the air though.

Thank you for the chapter Chibipoe. I can honestly say that I didn't expect it to be memory loss timeskip but after reading it again and thinking about it I have to say that I think this was a good decision for two reasons.

One, I'm not certain how the moderators would have felt about a chapter showing us Coil keeping a drugged 15 year old girl as a prisoner so that he could abuse her precognition.

Two, this story mostly is written from Taylor's point of view and given that she was drugged and (I'm guessing) her mental barriers broke down a chapter detailing her captivity probably wouldn't have been too coherent from her side. From Coil's side there would basically have been the method used to contain her, the questions asked, general vileness, smugness, terror and then fiery death. Lisa's side would have been a locked room/cell, abuse and whatever Coil gave her to study. While I believe you could do it well I don't know whether it is needed.

Now, my thoughts.

I'm guessing Trickster and the other Travelers were out when the Phoenix decided to redecorate. After all, they were responsible for Taylor's capture and she and the Phoenix wouldn't have felt too friendly towards them.

I wonder how Piggot and Glenn will take Dauntless's report about Taylor talking in his head. Consider, she spoke just after he realized that Taylor Herbert is Sirin, as he turned to go towards her room. And that Armsmaster had already mentioned in a report that

The Director's attention was drawn away from the papers to her laptop, the reports that Armsmaster had submitted after he and Miss Militia had met with the girl filling most of the screen. She took note of his belief that she had some sort of intuition into what people were thinking. If that were true, it would make it difficult to convince her with her normal methods. Thinkers were always troublesome. One had to be creative, mercurial even. The worst part was not knowing what a Thinker was doing precisely.

If they consider the possibility, they will need to test it, but doing so with an unwilling subject would be difficult. Also, ordering sympathetic people into situations where they'll meet with Taylor might make her see those people (Assault, Battery, Vista and Flechette) in a positive light, but I don't believe she would see the manipulative bosses in the same light. And consider, are there things that Glenn (the spin doctor) and Piggot (the parahuman bigot) know and might think about that they believe would destroy the possibility of a somewhat positive relationship with Taylor.

I do have to wonder if Taylor's friendship with Victoria will survive. Just the bit of interaction they had showed possible problems.

"It's... some sort of intuition?" Vicky offered, looking just a touch pale. "You're just drawing correct conclusions on what I'm thinking based on cold-reading, physical cues and all that."

Vicky recoiled as the thought finished, staring at me with wide eyes.

I suppose we'll see whether the friendship breaks down or whether it becomes stronger.

Lastly, I had a nasty thought. In chapter 2.6 Piggot said the following:

"Don't misunderstand, Miss Hebert," she told me. "I don't care for the stalemate at all. The gangs have far too much power. When that breaks, something I plan to delay for as long as possible, I want it to do so on my terms and when it favors us the most. Not the other way around. Until then, as much as I dislike it, there is a waiting game. The alternative is open warfare in the streets and I will not have Brockton Bay become a warzone."

Now, consider that Cricket's transport seemed to be handled less than expertly when the breakout occurred and that Cricket, Menja and Fenja might have been allowed to escape. Is it possible that Piggot will arrange the escape of parahuman criminals so that she can maintain the stalemate between the gangs?

More or less.

Piggot is the real mastermind!! PTV has nothing on her. All according to plan.
