Firebird, a Worm AU/Xover?

How would someone under 18 enter the lottery. You have to be 18 to gamble.

There are tickets where they have fixed amounts. Many are duds, some have large prizes, and most have just little prizes, like a dollar or whatever. By using precognition, she determined how many to buy to get what she wanted and found a place that would sell them to her... Only if you go over a certain amount do you have to present id or go to the local office to redeem.

@VolantRedX Shady liquor stores rarely care about rules. Precog is very useful for determining whether or not you can get away with breaking rules or whether or not people will care about breaking rules themselves.

When was this? I don't remember her cheating with scratch offs.

What mugging? Did I miss a chapter or something.
You must have. She bought several winning lottery tickets, then some merchants tried to mug her. It was the first time she used some form of projective empathy, making the people who attacked her run away in fear. It was also the event that caused the retcon of her automatic shield.

I...kind of remember that. Like I remember the fight, but not the lead up. I feel it should be pointed out that there is something morally suspect about cheating at the lotto, but I also will point out that I'm not in the mood for a fight about it.

The attempted mugging was near the end of arc 1. Right after Vicky bought her the jacket with Dean's money. She had done it once or twice before that and the place she chose for that attempt was a bad choice as he ratted her out to his buddies, who jumped her a few blocks away/near the mall.

Debating the morality of her using her powers in that manner can be elsewhere, however.

I feel it should be pointed out that there is something morally suspect about the lotto. It's a scam to part the stupid from their money.

It's pretty much the same as all gambling, I mean Vegas didn't build a pirate water show with a full scale boat because they were losing money.

It can be a harmless bit of fun or it can be a crippling addiction, like most things really.

You mean how the randomness of birth can make someone the heir of an absurdly wealthy family, or even a monarchy? Yeah, we already have that problem.
Yes, I also mean things like this.

Money can only get you so far when you're 15.
Taylor, with a touch of precog, can get anywhere with enough money.

For a start, lets fix that 'you're 15' issue with fake id and papers. Enough money can buy you a new name, a new life. Then we can start on her education, and get herself some qualifications via 'generous donations' to a university. But why does she need that? She can just pay humongous loads of cash to get herself somewhere to live, infinifood, and spend the rest of her life partying in between draining gangs dry.

Precog and money can only get you so far? Get enough of it, and it gets you so far.

It's the enough money part that's the problem. Scratch offs might get her some food, but they're not going to fund her life. And if she wins a shit ton questions are going to be asked.
Actually, I'd say she'd have a bit of trouble with wining things period. Thanks to the PRT's incessant probing, they know who she is and have somewhat of an understanding of her powers. Considering the effort they put into keeping Vegas unaffected by parahuman powers that work with gambling, Taylor would likely get in trouble attempting to claim any sort of decent winnings. Small things, sure, but she can't go out and buy a lottery ticket no matter what.

But like I said, she can quite easily go after various gangs for their money. Precog to figure out what's safe and easy to get some starting cash, shift over to a city where no one knows her. Spend a bit a fake ID to get her through the day so she can live in town whilst she drains the gangs for a month or so. More money? Better ID, better fake life. Shift to another city with whatever money she has and set up for life in a fancy hotel whilst pulling cash out of the gangs again to keep herself going.

Of course, this isn't something she wants to do. But I'm just saying that a lot of money isn't hard for her to come by (not easy, just not hard), and that with it she can pretty much solve her problems.

Huh. Not a terrible plan. Spent a lot of time thinking what you'd do with precognition if you were on the run from the law? Because that seems like a good plan for that, too.:D

Just seemed obvious to me, given Taylor's abilities, current situation and opinion of gangs. Ditch everything and start again. But that's the sort of person I am I guess...

Although obviously it'd need fine tuning as she went along, it's definitely not immutable.

And what will she do when the PRT plasters her face all over the country. Her fake ID won't do too much for her when her face is on every missing child commercial and milk carton this side of the world. The Wards program would be liable for her well being, and if they have means to find and interfere in a rogue vigilante's work then I think they'd have the means to interfere in a runaway teenager's life. Finding her would also be incredibly easy because you'd just have to follow the trail of pissed off gangs she'd leave behind. Especially if she was living it up with her money.
She'd also find her new life rather unfulfilling for the next 3 years because she's on the run. She couldn't get any government support in any matter because they'd catch on to her, she couldn't stand out in any way because somebody would notice her, she couldn't make a proper living or own anything because she can't have a financial record anywhere (she can't pay taxes without risking getting found out and the IRS watches everything.). To top it off, she's 15. She doesn't have all of the life skills or knowledge needed to take on the world by herself. Bereft of any support network or associated resources to augment her potential and offset her deficiencies she will be miserable.
