[Exalted, ?] Most High

Scarlet Flag just mean Zao's support doesn't diminish. It doesn't help us win as it simply secure a safety net. Prophecy will bring us closer to victory whereas Scarlet brings us further from defeat but no less closer to victory.
It gives Zao room to work against Anys Syn for us, bolstering his influence in the Realm. We have allies, you know, people who can act on our behalf in our absence. We needn't do everything ourselves. In any case, the central point remains: maintaining the Heretical prophecy actively lowers our chances of victory in Luseng, whereas Scarlet merely doesn't hurt us.

Scarlet Flag also gets Ulyssian naval support, and we can probably stunt how that works. Perhaps a wave of marines or two on can be seconded to him under the table? We have 20 odd exalts, imagine what we might be able to do with more, trained to work as a unit!

We have already been told that the Navy will not be able to contribute. It's a life line, not a victory condition. Prophecy IS one of the victory conditions.

That just means what our support remains static. On the surface that's good but you have to realize while our power base isn't growing, Ayn's strength is growing. We loose out because our passivity means they're free to grow. We are already at a disadvantage, if we don't take risks our enemies will just grow their advantage with nothing to check it.

Most importantly, shoring up Zao's influence for him lets Zao do... stuff instead. Whatever it is old mentors do before sacrificing themselves to weaken Anys Syn.

Zao is competent enough that given the breathing room, he can play out his stratagem to undermine Anys Syn just as good if not better than just Ulyssian playing Grand Heresy in Luseng.

Destroying the outside threat in Luseng would easily get the heart and mind of the residence, plant the fucking seed after you till the fucking soil

Anys Syn's power base is not going to grow greater than it already has. She's blown every favor, every debt, and every hold to get in her current position, and a slight breeze in the right place will shatter it.

Since, you know, at this point, she can't just arbitrarily put someone on the Scarlet Throne without starting a Realm Civil War against literally everyone except maybe two or three Houses.

If Zao isn't worried about having to hold his ground, he can go on the attack, gather resources, information--and everything else needed to improve our odds, while building enough credit that our faction becomes genuinely unassailable without Anys Syn destroying her house of cards.

Hmm, time to take another tack: we've angered Zao considerably prior to this. The Syryns incident, accepting the duel with the Immaculates, defying him on the matter of Moon, killing Polemgaos... isn't it time we did something for him for a change? With the situation so dire, our mentor could use our help. Betting on a longshot that is unlikely to ever materialize, even if we spread ourselves too thin and work to maintain the prophecy, is a far less worthwhile use of our time than repaying a debt and getting concrete benefits.

I did raise the possibility that Zao will work to counter Anys' plans; he is hardly nothing, but he needs our help to get a foot in the door, given the current political climate. Going to Luseng itself was an enormous gamble. Compounding the risks of that option by distracting ourselves at this critical juncture is just foolhardy, and thinking we can seriously hamper Anys when we're fighting a war of our own at the edge of the world is even moreso. Trust that Zao will pull his weight.

Man if Rihaku wasn't almost done with Evocations, I would have suggested a line based off the Thrown charms for augmenting the join battle roll and winning it and possibly a full free melee/thrown excellency charm along the lines of Cascade of Cutting Terror. Hopefully a GET equivalent is also among the evocations.

Heh, even if she was truly the Dragon of Fire, Mnemon would probably still declare war on her if she so much as looked like she'd put someone else on the throne. Might be an alliance to be made there; we haven't killed any of her elders.

She's still playing the part of a living saint and historical figure, returned King Under the Mountain style.

Like, she's reprising her role as Jesus Christ, or Siddhartha Buddha, or something. You'd be surprised what people would knuckle under for, in the face of Exalted Jesus.

And right now, her power is only "Absolute" as long as she couches it in Immaculate Terms.

Guess what the Immaculate Faith does not fucking concern itself with?

(Hint: It's which particular Dragon Blood sits on the throne. Of the Immaculate Dragon myths, the only one that actually concerns themselve with rulership is Pasaip--who is notably not on Anys Syn's portfolio)

Because "Oh hey, I'm totally Hesiesh, so that means you all need to turn your brains off and obey me without question".

Like I said, she runs into the main problem of "Mnemon knows that the Order is a sham, she knows Sidereals exist, and she's the most powerful Dragon Blooded Sorcerer of the Realm, augmented by hundreds of bound, mighty spirits". Who's Motivation is very much "Take control because nobody else can be trusted with it".

If you seriously think Mnemon will just smile and nod to "Hesiesh" ordering her to give up on the throne. You are seriously underestimating one of the oldest and canniest creatures in the modern world.

I repeat, Anys Syn is not going to be able to build her own power outside of her baliwick unopposed--and while she can certainly bulldoze any one faction, she can't do so without suffering losses and likely tipping off the others--and the moment that the other Houses sense that 'Hesiesh' is starting to dismantle them, the others are going to stop being so cooperative.

I just don't think that's mechanically what the Scarlet Flag option represents. I see it as more a don't loose option rather than a potential win. We'll need @Rihaku 's word on this.

giving a concept and ideal form tends to make it weaker, not stronger

they'd be far less impressed when the gap between the Hesiesh they believed and the "Hesiesh" that is widens

DBs just don't have the chops to take on Solaroids in most situations, as I think we've proven rather well throughout this quest.

We could kill 5 expert DBs in less than that many seconds, and that was before all this Wake the Sleeper nonsense.
Yes, and we are a monster among monsters with an N/A artifact. Plus it will be us+20 DBed, which is enough to crush at least one army if we do it right.

In any event, neither plan in the lead helps with our actual Satrapy.

We can't exactly take all our DBs and use them to crush one of the armies without the other two armies... y'know, running around putting towns to the sword and stuff.
In any event, neither plan in the lead helps with our actual Satrapy.
Probably why I haven't bothered to re-vote on this one.

A pragmatic one? We also chose to enter into a tournament of the finest warriors in all the Realm; not sneaking into Yu Shan on top of that was just us choosing not to spread ourselves too thin.

It's probably possible to argue that point, but if I were to do so I would be missing my own point.

I mean do remember, I'm not trying to make an argument about why we should do this, I'm merely stating why I'm voting. I would've made a proper argument rather than a two or three sentence statement in the case that I was.

Of course, I could probably go into more detail about my reasoning, but it'd really just be for the purposes of pontification and/or satisfying curiosity, and there is actual debate going on which I'd rather not disrupt by arguing about my opinion.

Wake the Sleeper - Evocations Acquired (1)
Evocations Acquired

Existing

Sunlit Brilliance Stroke (E2, +4m, Reflexive)
Pre-req: Saber Mirror Shield

This technique upgrades Flash of Steel. If he pays the surcharge (+4m), he may instead Clash any type of attack with Flash of Steel.

All Under Heaven
(E4, -, Permanent)
Pre-req: The King Stands Alone

At Initiative 20+, Odyssial's Heaven Sword Flash is now effective out to Medium range. At E5+, his Circle of Reaving is also effective out to Medium range.

Divine Dragon Speed (E4, - (5m, 1wp), Reflexive)
Pre-req: Flawless Killing Instrument, Awakening Eye

When Joining Battle with Awakening Eye, Odyssial may re-roll (Athletics/2, round up) additional non-successes.

When resetting to base Initiative after a succesful decisive attack, if he would benefit from the Dawn Caste bonus to Base Initiative, that bonus is increased to (Essence) from (Essence/2).

Ordering the Constellations (E5, 7m, 1wp, Simple)
Pre-req: Peerless Skill

As a normal withering attack, but additional successes on the attack roll are treated as a multiplier to final damage rather than adding to raw damage. Once per scene, reset by incapacitating a worthy foe or destroying a similarly worthy battle group.

---

Independent Adamant Evocations

Scattering August Leaves (E4, -, Permanent)
Pre-reqs: The King Stands Alone, Divine Dragon Speed

This permanently upgrades The King Stands Alone.

When Odyssial vanquishes a foe while under its benefits, he adds +1 to the base initiative he resets to afterwards for each worthy opponent still opposing him, to a maximum of (Melee) extra base initiative. This effect stacks with Divine Dragon Speed.

If Immortal Blade Triumphant is active, Battle Groups do not apply their Size modifier to attack rolls against him.

Fell-Handed Fury (E4, -, Permanent)
Pre-req: Annihilating Stroke

This permanently upgrades Annihilating Stroke. Against spirits, creatures of darkness, and those to whom Odyssial holds a Defining Tie of hatred, it applies the effects of the Ghost-Eating Technique - Aggravated damage, motes stolen by wound level, and final obliteration if killed by this strike.

If Immortal Blade Triumphant is active, at Initiative 35+, simply double final damage rather than applying double 9s to the damage roll.

---

Awoken Mind Evocation Tree

Celestial Evocations

Saint and Killer Awakening (E3, -, Permanent)
Pre-req: Flawless Killing Instrument

The Ambition of Odyssial rouses from its slumber, the links of attunement firing like optic nerves, interfacing with soul and Exaltation, fusing inextricably.

Once per day, Ulyssian may draw five motes reflexively from Ambition, as though it were a familiar linked to him with Spirit-Tied Pet. Once per day, he may draw a single point of Willpower as a Simple action.

Once per scene, upon vanquishing a worthy foe, he may pay 3m to gain one point of temporary Willpower. A battle group counts as one foe.

What Rouses Glory (E3, -, Permanent)
Pre-reqs: Saint and Killer Awakening

Awakened, the blade Ambition is no separate object, but an inseparable reflection of its wielder's glory. A tyrant lizard might have two brains; a human being might have two souls - still they are one entity. Who awakens his Ambition gains the following powers:

Inexhaustible: So long as Ambition is manifest, training counts as deep meditation for purposes of restoring Willpower and motes.

Relentless Force
: Ulyssian can put off up to (Essence) days of sleep per month; so long as he is engaged in activities that are both urgent and important, he benefits at dawn each day as if he'd rested completely. He must recover at least half the sleep so postponed, after the crisis has passed, in order to use this Charm again.

Indomitable Will: If Ulyssian knows the Charm Righteous Lion Defense, he may ignore the clause against overly broad Intimacies, so long as the principle in question is "I always find a way."

Clarity of Purpose: If Ulyssian knows the Charm Phoenix Renewal Tactic, he may always use it to defend against Psyche Effects.

War-Binding of Eternity (E4, -, Permanent)
Pre-reqs: Saint and Killer Awakening, Immortal Blade Triumphant

A weapon peace-bound cannot be drawn. A weapon war-bound always is.

The character may accept a point of Indefinite Limit, which cannot be released unless he wills it. The duration of his Immortal Blade Triumphant is extended indefinitely, until that point of Limit is released. The Charm will persist even if the character banishes and summons his weapon with Summoning the Loyal Steel, allowing him to free that hand for normal use.

This Charm may be re-purchased as an Adamant Evocation. This allows motes committed to Immortal Blade Triumphant to be used towards Ambition's attunement cost, and gives the blade the Smashing tag, as the flat, pommel, and hilt of the blade become equally lethal as its edge. This function is believed to be new, introduced from Ulyssian. [Repurchase Acquired]

Adamant Evocations

Stroke of Benevolence (E4, 2m+, Reflexive, Instant)
Pre-reqs: What Rouses Glory, Peerless Skill

The apex of unfairness is the selective imposition of fairness.

Odyssial may ignore all penalties to an Ability roll or static defense. If he does so, his opponent ignores all penalties to their contesting roll or appropriate defense. If he has no opponent, this Evocation instead costs 5m. This effect does not protect against ambushes.

Hymn of the Morning (E4, -, Permanent)
Pre-reqs: Stroke of Benevolence

Cloaked in the light of the morning, Odyssial's movements betray a fluid symmetry of form, a grace beyond swordsman or forest predator. The character must accept a point of Indefinite Limit to benefit from this Charm.

If fighting at the head of a battle group, Odyssial is considered to be using Defend Other on that Battle Group reflexively, if he so desires. His awe-sundering skill inspires supreme coherence, defensive coordination, and true grit in those he fights beside - alternatively, he simply intercepts every attack directed their way.

If Immortal Blade Triumphant is active, the per-scene effect of Saint and Killer Awakening is now reset every time Odyssial dispatches a worthy foe or Battle Group, and its cost becomes 0m. Effects from his opponents which single out particular Charms, like Hundred Shadow Ways, may not target Immortal Blade Triumphant.

Captain of Ten Thousand Orisons
(E4, -, Perilous, Permanent)
Pre-reqs: Hymn of the Morning

Odyssial is the destroyer of ten thousand abominations, the liberator of ten thousand peoples, the Strategos of ten thousand armies. Before his advance, fleets crumble, monsters flee; nations and armies are rendered to dust.

After activating Immortal Blade Triumphant, Odyssial adds his (Essence) to the raw damage of all attacks, halves all post-soak withering damage taken, and may ignore (Essence/2, round up) levels of damage taken every turn. He may allow damage from one attack to pass in order to block damage from another, or split the levels. At E5+, Battle Groups that benefit from Hymn of the Morning also receive these benefits.

If Immortal Blade Triumphant is active when he Joins Battle, he always claims the benefits of this Charm until his second turn in combat. At the beginning of his second and subsequent turns, he must have spent 8+ motes on offensive Charms in the previous turn, or launched a decisive attack sometime during the previous turn, to benefit from this Charm. He does not benefit from this Charm while Crashed.

Crowned By Metis (E5, -, Permanent)
Pre-reqs: Beyond Perfection Ascendency x2, Captain of Ten Thousand Orisons

Odyssial was born of no especial provenance. His crown he seized by what lay below it. He who masters his Ambition, will always find a way.

When Odyssial uses this Evocation, a slender crown of pure white light bursts upon his brow, its central teardrop jewel shining like a star of grey and silver. This effect cannot be concealed or altered by any means.

Once per scene, Odyssial may add his full (Int + Lore) in dice to any stunted Ability roll that does not use Archery, Brawl, Martial Arts, Melee, or Thrown. He may always add up to ten dice if he would break the dice cap for that Attribute + Ability, but still may not add more than ten dice total from Charms.

Once per story, Odyssial may spend 1 Willpower and gain 1 Limit to reflexively roll Join Battle at any point in combat, doubling 8s and gaining motes equal to the number of successes. If this restores him to above base Initiative, it ends Initiative Crash.

This Evocation can be reset upon entering Limit Break, or by performing a three die stunt of spectacular ingenuity (GM's discretion) in the advancement or defense of a Defining Intimacy.

Those are some nice evocations there covering the full spread of combat abilities except ranged.

Now we can't use WtS on Ambition again under we have paid 520,000 solar xp, but can we spend solar xp on Ambition to acquire new Evocations in the meantime?

Hmm perhaps an evocation relating to teaching the Star Crown of Morning SMA can be unlocked? Or is Pearl capable enough of reproducing it while we train side by side with her and occasionally hand off Ambition to her as needed during the training?

You already have ranged counterstrike capability with Flash of Steel, or gap-closing with Leaping Tiger Attack.

Man, Scarlet Flag and Heretical are deadlocked! The last vote showed Heretical slightly ahead on votes, but Scarlet is slightly ahead on arguments, I believe. Anyway, remember that you got the King Stands Alone from previous XP expenditure, so you now have all written Ambition Evocations save Wall of Unassailable Blades and Eightfold Immortal Bulwark. Go do something with them!

So one potential concern with Crown of Metis, can it be used with Wake the Sleeper for even more ridiculousness with it? Hopefully not, that combo with Fate Arete is already way OP.

Still it is a decent combat utility option with it able to add to our evasion and awareness along with other stuff.

They're not Non-Charm dice, I will make that more clear.

It's mostly for out of combat stuff. You get the equivalent of an Excellency in every Ability, only it's better than that because it's at dice cap regardless of how crap your Ability normally is, and you also get the Free Excellency Charm for every Ability. It's probably overpowered.

[X] Scarlet

We're at risk of being overwhelmed and aren't liable to have the time and effort to do the rebellion. Let's do this so the Navy/Zao can support us and though it doesn't weaken her anywhere near as much it also doesn't lead us to be so vulnerable in our *suicide mission*.

Hopefully we can leverage this into alot of support elements too help us fend off the foes.
