Dungeon Crawler You!

"I'll give you a useful spell to level" could be a great way to buy people's boxes off them, too.
Or "I'll give you scrolls of a useful spell".

And great for preparing against bossbattles.
And great to buy cooperation for "Benefit: Scholarly Interview" while we have it.

'Hey valkyries, If you spend 1h with us so that we can copy your firetornado spell we'll give you a bunch of scrolls/a spellbook for it' (or a copy of pyrophilia)

You are terrible.
I like you.
Awe shucks, thank you 💖

Even if we don't get Scholarly interview, if we get scribe scroll we could just have them try to make us a spellbook. Yes I am a dirty cheese monster, thanks for asking~

So, cheesy, do you agree with the idea for if we get it now:
While Leo and Tay are sleeping to get their racechange, Drew makes a spellbook of spellbookmaking, Levi uses that and starts making a spellbooks of spellbookmaking (reserved for Tay).

Because reminder:
Levi may help us in many ways, only mentioned no-no is fighting for us. Crafting is explicitly allowed. We already saw him use a spell for our benefit in the Leo-falls-from-the-gravity-reversed-ceiliing incident.

You cheesy mothertrucker. I adore collaborating with you to break this game in half. We could have Levi producing spellbooks. We might also be able to have a Taylor reserved for this sort of thing in the future.

Yup. exactly.

Assuming Borant patches it once everyone in our group has it (making it a skill rather than a spell) it is time to find out whether bardsongs are spells or skills

Excuse me if what are spells or skills?
Our gameguide manager a bard.

"It's okay," Levi repeated, this time speaking to Taylor. "She can't die of injuries sustained in a safe room. She'll be fine." He started to sing, a powerful tenor that echoed off the walls and wove a tapestry of sound around them. Taylor felt his panic ebb and a warm looseness sweep through his body. Calliope's eyes drifted closed and the pain eased out of her face as her health bar began climbing smoothly. A crackling sound indicated her bones mending, her health bar jumping higher with each one. After only a few seconds she was back to full health and thirty seconds after that her eyes fluttered open. She blinked for a second, then pushed herself upright and shook her head. Levi allowed the song to die away and sat back.

Considering one of Leos class choices (Cowpoke Sherrif), has "make a fingergun to shoot mana bullets" as a spell, Levis song could be a spell, too.
Spell: Mana Bullet
Cost: 3 MP
Range: (Dexterity) x (Spell Level) meters

Make a finger gun, pull the trigger. A bullet of pure mana shoots out and blows the bad guy's head off. Or, at least, reduces their health bar.

I've checked. We see a Bard-analogue in book 5, and the songs are described as "a new spell system". The Bard says "I sing songs, and they cast spells". Upon getting the class, you get "multiple spells and a new spell system" and later it seems like those "multiple new spells" are songs that do magic.

It seems like Bard songs are indeed spells. They just have a casting requirement added on, which is "you need to actually sing it very well, otherwise the effect is drastically reduced". If none of our characters can sing, then his Bard spells are likely to be a wash for us. Still, he might have some normal spells too.

I am getting the feeling that considering the questers here that child actor is going to trigger at least one nerf every floor. Which is of course all to the good.

I consider every patch that we made necessary to be a battle won against Borant.

By the way: You too can become part of giving Borant lactose intolerance by voting [X] (Drew) Mystic Scholar!

I wonder if EagleJarl will follow DCC's Former Child Actor rules, where you get to keep the skills/spells you level.

Also, we could copy Skill: Character Actor onto Taylor for more class doubling

[X] (Drew) Mystic Scholar

I'm pretty sure the earlier votes didn't have the ! but I'll put it back if I'm wrong.

Ok, question to everyone voting for this:

How do you plan to survive this floor to take advantage of all this potential, even if the penalty for recursive Create Spellbook isn't high enough to drive the chance of success into the negatives at our current low level, and thus need Fortuna's Favored Child to break 15 and start hitting cartoonish levels of luck to ever happen? (Since the argument that it probably is has apparently failed to convince people.)

With TV Psychic we were at least getting something, because high enough Charisma can itself be a survival trait against most monsters, and boosting Charisma doubles down on Luck, and Silver Tongued Liar unlocks otherwise impossible Charisma checks to make it genuinely combat relevant. There's a reason even @Dreaming Circuit , who started this, was fine with Psychic this floor and waiting for the next to add the Spellbook exploit. Right now, before we have been able to use Rollup to get ridiculous equipment and Taylor is focused entirely on support with his Sysop abilities... If Drew is focused on making Spellbooks instead of being able to help either, how are we going to live to get the boxes we need to start exploiting everything? Seriously. Mystic Scholar next floor, not now.

Haven't decided yet, honestly. Although, in canon Mordecai stated that it was probably a bug that would be patched out as soon as Borant noticed, and therefore casting retained spells was a bad idea.

If we wait on mystic scholar it might get patched before we get it. We're probably not the only crawlers with access to that spell.

How do you plan to survive this floor to take advantage of all this potential,
We get to choose one spell we get with it. Make that a combat spell.
We get 1 random spell.
Prioritize finding a magic shop and then use the super power of money to buy useful spells. (Where to get money? Selling spellbooks)

And of course making scrolls from known spells and copies of scrolls we previously had for item magic fighting.

Scrolls we saw before:
Scrolls of Heal Critter and Scroll of Confusing Fog
Scrolls of Mind Defense and Scroll of Minor Shield
Heal scrolls

So we have Offense, Defense, Healing, Debuffing.

Maybe Team up with Astro Army for their
A flag with a symbol of a vaguely humanoid fish on a red and yellow background. When planted on the ground and held firmly, it projects an aura with a radius of 50'. The aura affects crawlers but not mobs. While you are in the AOE, potions and scrolls are 20% more effective and spells are 10% more effective.

And that is before the possibility of trading for spells from other crawlers (Valkyries, Astro Army).

And then there is the possible but shouldn't be assumed stuff, like the AI finding us screwing with Borants rules hilarious and giving us a lootbox with a neat spell. (With Taylors class choice we had a closer to Borant choice (Diva) and a closer to the AI choice (SysOp))

TV Psychic is a great choice, no question. But the mage choice doesn't leave us helpless, either.

In canon Mordecai says that it will get patched, and then it never does even though they keep using their mainstay spells. I suspect Mordecai was just wrong.

[X] (Drew) Mystic Scholar!

Please remove the exclamation mark, it's messing up the vote tally.

Mystic Scholar allows Fireball. Fireball is powerful, it synergises well with Pyrophilia, and we can give it to Taylor quickly.
Mystic Scholar also grants another random spell, which will probably be good.

...Right, I give up. I still don't think the unintended exploit will even work with Drew's current stats and skill levels, but with the current and sudden lead it's taken over the only competitor, I doubt I'll stop it from going through.

In the meantime, I'll try to keep us alive by going back to the one option for short term power over long term efficiency that still has a chance to become part of the winning vote.

[X] (Moose Box) Take Moose's boxes for Calliope

His Legendary Doomsday Prepper box to match that the other three got and his Platinum boxes (where he has at least one from a single digit Early Adopter achievement) will hopefully have something that can keep us alive. I have no idea if I can actually get the vote swing I need for this to come back, but no idea is better than obviously not like with trying to return us to Psychic.

Edit: I'm going to bed.
