Come for the Raifus, Stay for the Plot: Girls' Frontline - Baking Time

So I've done the Ranking map.

Now I have been playing a long time, and I'm not dumb or super lazy about putting together formations, but I've only done the map twice, and the first run I ended half way through turn two because I was just testing the feel, and that was a good enough score to get 24%. If you don't let the Death Stacks scare you, it's a straight forward and fun map. If you feel like it, getting a high rank is easy enough.

My one tip would be to not trust the npc AR team. They can fight the zombies fine, but if there's not a pack of them right before their eyes they tend to run the wrong way. I had to manually get them on the radar node. 404 will do fine so long as you use the usual tactics for their fights. And again, don't fear the Death Stacks. Kill the Death Stacks. You'll have bombs and EMPs, use them.

Have fun everyone!

The story: desperate last stand against KCCO, a numerically and qualitatively superior foe, Griffin struggling to hang on by the skin of their teeth.

The gameplay: "haha 30K strength echelons go dakkadakkadakka."

Chapter 5 is a pretty good representation because everyone is running on fumes at that point, except for the fact that you can still deploy your full strength teams at that point instead of having to work with completely gutted forces.

One detail I really liked on the Ranking map? The NPC Griffon echelons. They're made of teams you know from the story or night chapters. Like Negev's team, complete with Jericho. But some of the teams are wrong. Like Kar's team is complete, but there's also Welrod? Then you remember oh yeah, most everyone is dead. So IDW, Bren and L85A1? Didn't make it. K2 isn't with ATK, but we also know Calico and Thunder didn't die thanks to Calico's Mod story, but still. There's other teams, like RO's old team seems together, but I was pretty sure Makarov at least went back to herding AK-47, SKS and A91 around like the rowdy drunks they are. So that bunch probably didn't make it. Just a few little details that made some of the story points hit harder.

Good grief Mica, why'd you have to go and make the fight with Mastermind so broken. I got screwed over by the RNG chain suspending M4 in the air while the boss shot her to death twice in a row. Thankfully resetting fights is possible so I didn't have to take the time to work through the puzzles again.

I ended up using 2 hours just on resetting battles and I eventually resorted to dropping beans on the deathstacks after losing three battles to deathstacks.

that reminds me, I still have to finish chapter 5 of PL.

I haven't slogged past the "occupy the whole map; oh, by the way, many nodes become inaccessible once traversed" bullshit.

Nyto-lings left me wanting to give them all headpats and cookies.
Until they start calling you "baka" straight into your Neural Cloud.

I just threw extra echelons at her. Only took two.

There was a map like that?

Huh, I didn't think to try that. I don't like retreating my echelons if I can avoid it, so I still had two on the field from the puzzle.

Now to figure out whether I want to give ranking a real try or not. I did a minimum effort run yesterday, quitting via score settlement at the end of my second turn. That gave me a score of ~180,000 which apparently puts me just shy of the 50% mark (54%). I'll see how much time I have this afternoon and how much I can manage without a second Kord or Type88 Mod2 for the anti-Ares team or a Beach Fairy for the deathstack killer team.

I had some unused ones in reserve, and the heliport just above Eliza wasn't yet closed. And I really, really didn't want to do the puzzle again.

Whew, this event was the second one ever that I had finished. I don't remember if there was four total or five total that I was present for, but I do remember seeing the ending credits once before. There was one time where I was too under-levelled to finish the event, one time where I was busy with a job; and I also remember trying Granblue Fantasy at a really bad time, which might or might not have been during one of the previous times. Anyway, that's a lot of words, but in short, being able to finish the event again sure felt nice. For about two or three minutes.

Also, Valmet M82 finally dropped some three hours ago, and I have enough medals to get every unit I want from this event. Now I'll wait for Chapter 13 and S.F. Capture. Speaking of, I wonder if Isomers are planned to ever become a playable unit.

Wait, Escape Acceleration II doesn't have an echelon limit!? I just checked and it looks like you're right. I don't know why I thought it had a 2 echelon limit.

Turns out I actually have a Beach Fairy for the anti-deathstack team, but she's completely unleveled. At least I have enough combat reports for her, but skill data and fodder fairies are a different story. Think I'll try and see if some Construction Fairy shenanigans can give me enough firepower to compensate. I've also heard the Landmine Fairy can help too, so I might test that out as well.

Edit: Huh, the Beach Fairy was way easier to level than a normal Fairy. Turns out I did have enough fodder to 5-star her. Only enough skill data to get her to sl 8, but I'm much closer to an ideal anti-deathstack team than I expected to be.

Edit 2: Still not enough to brute force the deathstacks. Probably needed better optimized chips on my HOCs. Still, ~545,000 doesn't seem half bad.

Fun fact about map 2; there was actually a little trick you could perform that would let you get the full 10k points for any crates spawned on the last turn; you had to restart the client after winning all the last turn fights and then terminate the map from the outside (I had 22 crates and you can get up to 24, so I would have gotten 210k more points if I done things correctly). This was how the top 1 spot got 1.39m. If not for map 2 literally being broken for the first 3 weeks things would have looked very different (also a lot more fun because fuck everything about typhon deathstacks). Considering literally no one was able to do a fully optimized run of map 2 due to the time constraints JP is going to have a field day with PL.

Map 2 was probably the worse map to run for anyone without a nearly maxed account though because the normal fights are very hard and you can't rely on a few teams to do most of the work.

I'm not too surprised at the low completion rate for Escape Acceleration EX, the reward for completing it really wasn't worth it. The same applies to Valmet M82 and CF-05 neither of them really bring anything really valuable to the table to justify farming them for anything but completion. (outside of M82 being able to work with AK Alfa if you get their unity skill)

The other thing is that EN runs a ton of events (Theater, PL, the point buy for R5, anniversary) all at the same time that consume a lot of time. Never mind that the increasing scope and size of the events and poor Android optimization means a lot of people get fed up and stop.

I've noticed that. The big step backwards, for me at least, was the major client update that added loading screens between all the major menus in the base (home, factory, formation, etc.). That slowed the game down considerably and made me drop it for a month or two.

It doesn't help that the game has noticeably longer load times on BlueStacks 4 than on my phone (Pixel 3XL). Haven't tried other emulators or the BlueStacks 5 beta, but I'd rather not deal with multiple emulators.

I just watched UMP9's mod story.

I rather liked 404 radio's take on UMP9's meeting and integration with Squad 404, which has now been blown out of the water by canon. Oh well.
