Yeah, but who know there could be defensible territory between us and then so we have a buffer.

A good chokepoint like Therompayle if we're really lucky, it's mountainous area after all.

Problem with expansion policy is all the infrastructure stuff that doesn't get done when we're settling willy nilly.

We need to get palisade as standard at some point.

Kinda disappointed we didn't really ask for more than what we could of got in the first treaty offer.

I feel like it's important to note that everyone else looks SO BIG compared to us because of fog of war-those big blobs effectively mark out the area we THINK their stuff is in/zone of control, versus our tiny blobs which mark out where our stuff ACTUALLY is. For them they probably see big ominous green blob in our territory that might actually reach into the yellow sections, frankly.
Also-Keep an eye on those Coltyre guys! Those are SETTLED Boarfolk, and the fact they exist means the Boars likely have a more fortified staging ground that can indeed be reinforced by the large spread-out nomad boars.

Everybody else build wide and tries to conquer as much territory as they can to extract as much wealth as they can.

Man i wonder how they would feel thinking were a huge green blob of power yet its only a few green dots scaring the crap out of everyone. and making the furloc feel inferior.

well building tall means you have to be better at everything to stand a chance
Not quite. Building tall means its easier to stay at high quality as you can protect all assets.
Building wide means you have to invest a LOT of your resources into holding ground instead of advancing culture and technology. You have lots of actions, but look to the nomads for the extreme end of wide.

Just a heads-up, if we do end up exploring for the tin mine alongside other actions (Sacred forest and naval exploration ftw!), we should maybe explore the Sunset mountains, as we've already explored Sunrise when we found the copper deposit. That's not to say that there can't be a tin deposit in the Sunrise range, but we increase our likelihood if we search the Sunset first.

The two aren't mutually exclusive... Most empires were both wide and tall. The way the game mechanics work in this we get additional actions for building more settlements. It's highly advantageous to rush for the settlement limit asap since it would maximize both our economy, population, and number of actions per turn. We should really have 4 settlements since that would unlock two additional actions(one player one npc).

Anyways a proper bronze age army would be nice given the constant wars.

Naw. The 'typical'(so much as there is a typical at all) Empire cycle goes like this:
1) Everyone slapfighting everyone else. Nothing changes.
2) Some guys build tall in their corner and just focus on keeping others out. They are annoying to fight for little reward, so their neighbors go slap everyone else.
3) The tall builders eventually reach a point where they realize they can flatten all their neighbors. They proceed to flatten all their neighbors.
4) Tall Nationstate is now Wide Empire, with a Tall core.
5) Wide Empire realizes it has enough dudes to flatten everything in sight. It does so.//Alternatively Wide Empire realizes it has literally everything of value inside, and settles down to be smug about things.
6) Its annoying to move all the good stuff from their tall core to all this super far places. So local buildup in super far places ensue, some of these super far places are premium core sites.
7) Locals who got built up ask questions like "why should we listen to super far place, we got these good shit ourselves". Empire at this point is constantly suppressing splinters and explodes when an external shock hits.
8) Pieces slap all other pieces

Curious Halfbreed
Curious Halfbreed
"I wonder if we could get our own tamed animals," says Aryna as the girl who is almost a women, watches the pair of Boarmen ride by on the backs of their dire boars.

"We already have our own tamed animals," points out her best friend, Mayrd with a slight frown as she tries to understand what Aryna is talking about.

Aryna is one of the People's few halfbreeds, born to a Maradysh Birdfolk father and an Arthwydish human mother. While human looking for the most part, Aryna has some distinct and obvious Birdfolk heritage. She lacks the beak, but her feet have talons and while she isn't fully covered in feathers like her father, Aryna has blue-white feathers on the back of her head in place of hair. However, the blatant feature of her Birdfolk heritage is the pair of feathered wings sticking out of her back, which work well enough to give Aryna limited flight.

Another distinctive part of Aryna's heritage is that she has the Blessing of Arthryn from her mother. While it is no longer rare amongst the Maradysh anymore, it is still uncommon as many, including Mayrd, still lack it. As things are, Aryna is something of an exotic beauty amongst the community thanks to the combination of her Birdfolk heritage, her taller than average height, her innately muscular build and her womanly curves,

Mayrd on the other hand is more barbarian looking. She lacks the muscles that Aryna has by default and despite her best efforts has not managed to catch up to her best friend in that area. Other than that, she is shorter than the average member of the People and despite being older than Aryna and of age, Mayrd is still childishly flat. Aryna wouldn't go as far to say that her best friend is ugly, there are many that would, especially in up in the north.

"I am more referring to taming birds as the Boarfolk have tamed their dire boars," explains Aryna, "Just as the Boarfolk have used their connection to tame the dire boars, I was wondering if Birdfolk or those with Birdfolk heritage could use our connection to birds to tame them."

"Do you think that is possible?" asks Mayrd, genuinely curious about her best friend's idea.

"Maybe, maybe not," admits Aryna, "While it may not be possible use an innate connection, I do think we could tame some birds without that connection."

"In that way?" inquires Mayrd.

"Well, the first thing would be getting ready to look after them," answers Aryna thoughtfully, "We would proper pens to keep them, both to provide with shelter from the elements, but also to protect them from predators and to keep them from flying away. We would also need to learn how to look after them once we tamed them. We would need to feed them properly and give them the right amount of room and to ensure that they are able to breed whilst under our care."

"That sounds like a lot of work," says Mayrd.

"Not as much as you might think," replies Aryna, "I've been asking around and a lot of that is already known by the hunters. It would just be a matter of applying that knowledge and filling the empty spaces. After that, we should just need to capture some. We would want to get enough that they can breed. It would be probably be easier if we bred them as the offspring could be tamed while they are still young."

"Do you think that you could get permission to try?" inquires Mayrd.

"No, not in the current climate," answers Aryna with no small amount of frustration in her voice, "I haven't asked yet, but I already know that they wouldn't agree to try something like this when there isn't enough food to go around."

"So what are you going to do about it then?" asks Mayrd.

"I might move north where they aren't starving," says Aryna, "Not only does it mean that I don't have to worry about starving, but there will be most resources spare that I might be able to provided with. Plus they are generally more knowledgeable up north so that could help with my projects."

"I'll miss you if you go north," says Mayrd, earning herself a look from Aryna.

"You could come with me," points out Aryna.

"And end up standing out as some kind of barbarian?" scoffs Mayrd, "I think not."

"We would both stand out," argues Aryna, "My paternal heritage will make me stand out as well."

"But you have the Blessing," counters Mayrd, "You will be able to fit in with your mountains while I shall stand out as ugly."

"Nobody will hold that against you," says Aryna.

"And I would rather stay in a place where I am not the only person who is ugly," replies Mayrd, "Besides Aryna, I got a job now. You are still young and have yet to have your future decided while I have commitments and already have my foundation lain. You are my oldest and closest friend Aryna, but I cannot follow you to Greenbay should you go there, no matter how much I would miss you."

"I still don't what I am going to do in the future," says Aryna, "I want to keep trying to discover new stuff, but I don't know what job allows me to do that."

"Because a priestess then," suggests Mayrd, "You got the mountains for it and you won't have too many rivals here unlike you would up north."

"You think that would work?" asks Aryna.

"It couldn't hurt to try," replies Mayrd, "You will just end up needing a different job if you fail so you might as well try."

"Then I shall speak to Priestess Harun latter," declares Aryna, "Thanks for the advice May. Your words are always helpful."

"And your ideas are always interesting Ari," replies Mayrd, "I enjoy talking to you and I hope that whatever the future may hold for us, we are able to continue to have conversations with each other."

"Me too May," agrees Aryna, "Me too."

Taming birds sounds interesting, thought if there isn't some kind of magic thingy not seen in our world not terribly useful.
But if there is some magic thingy, incredibly useful.
