Frankly the other part of the problem that hasn't been raised is that Mommy Crab is pressuring us to have more babies and more wives and that means that this is going to be a recursing theme at least every time an heir dies and at worst every time theres a baby who doesn't instantly get sent to Hogwarts for obvious reasons.

I *want* to ask Musubi no Kami... but then I remember that the Heavens are kind of against this plan, and Togashi is cheating in a way that's apparently erasing him from existence, and trying to get any of the other gods more directly involved suddenly seems like a *terrible* idea.

You quietly wonder at what point you lost control of your life. Was it when you ascended to the Throne? Or some time later when you decided to get married, or something else? The question hangs distantly in your mind as the three women in your life all stare at each other none of them willing to move an inch as they each advance their own choices for what to do with your daughter. You had told them to handle it...but you had thought they would get along, rather than this.
Kaname stares forward at your mother and Akane.
"I am not letting my daughter learn from the Crab or the Mantis, if she is not to be trained as a Shiba, then she will learn from the Kakita as tradition was of old."
Ryoko your mother snaps closed a fan, one you suspect would have broken if not for the Kaiu work on it.
"No grand daughter of mine is learning from the Crane, she should learn from the Kaiu, building an Empire is what the Imperial Line does. Those Mantis don't deserve it either but better them then the Crane!"
Akane the third figure woman in the room looks at them both.
"What the Empress needs to learn is relevant but so are political concerns of now. With the reforms passing many of the traditionalist clans are chafing under the speed and complexity of them. Which would argue that we should make sure that they do not educate the Heiress to repeal the reforms. To that end distasteful as it is, the Mantis are easily the ones bolstered most by this, although the argument for the Unicorn could be made as well"
Sitting beside you, the now ancient Otomo Kasumi shakes her head. "And to think that they haven't even started on the betrothals yet" she murmurs.
"They've been arguing like this how long?" You ask quietly.
"Oh off and on for the last month or so, forgive me Holy Tenno, but you said you wished to focus on the Matter of Otosan Uchi, and I myself was working on your other request. They are in your office at your leisure"
You grunt, at that. The Scouting expedition to Otosan Uchi had been...a disaster in most senses of the words. Of a five hundred man battalion, a hundred had come back to the camp set up in the Hub Villages. They brought no taint, no disease, and that is the most you can be thankful for in the end. They reached the inner city walls, and there, according to the few who came back a demoness stalked the night which never seemed to leave that accursed city and killed them off in job lots. In the end they had to retreat, even Shem Zhe's tremendous magical power being too little to drive her back.
That said Shem Zhe said that the demoness was familiar somehow and that he would like to devote more study to it. Still three more years, to get into the inner city and to the Heavens...it was a tall order, you would have to devote all of the Empire on to it next year, regardless of the costs, you knew that now.
It was hardly calculate to make you happy however, as the predicted famines began to take shape, Hiroko's frankly herculean efforts had stemmed that tide, but for how long?
You shake your head pushing that to the side. One thing at a time, and right now its that your Advisor, Empress and Mother are arguing over things loudly enough that your attention is needed, you could ignore this, but it wouldn't be right too. The quickest and easiest solution is to simply say one of them is in charge and they get the final say...that's also probably going to leave the other two various degrees of angry at you though. The other option is to simply pick a clan, at the moment most of the clans are either content with you or better, the exception being the Crane and the Mantis so you could probably swing whatever you felt like...but you would essentially be choosing based off of instinct and you don't like that either...

They turn to look at you as your make the decision, their faces schooled to a stony silence. You're going to pay for that later, but you honestly think you made the right call. This needs to be done, and unfortunately, you don't have time to do it yourself.

"Hai, I have names from all the clans and several more from the Unicorn on the assumption that perhaps Shinjo-no-kami would prefer one of her own tribe...but that is not for certain given the prohibition they have. Would you like me to show the Unicorn candidates or the other candidates first?"

Actually, that might not be a bad idea. Keep up our investment into the minor clans and the Catfish are Mantis so she would understand the reforms, and I am sure they got some Cranes or Shiba into their mix as part of our package to help them set up.

That and I think Gaijin diplomacy is more likely to increase then go down, so having her be trained by the Mantis would be likely be best for that.

What school type would Minoru join, bushi or courtier?
Iirc the Mantis courtiers rely on intimidating their opponent and their bushi focus on duel-wielding kamas?
Honestly we might have to go to the Scorpion to get the blend of martial and diplomacy we need, if we could somehow trust them with that.
Although all this heaven troubles might mean the Shiba would be better for this.

Depends on whether you want Minoru to fight or not
Yoritomo Bushi focus on sailing and fighting with peasant weapons but the Courtiers are yes like that.
And yes this would affect her rings, but its not totally relevant because the quest ends when Hisao retires/dies.
