Our relationship with the Lion is 35. That's not "terrible". It's halfway between "The Emperor has ruled somewhat against what we like" and "The Emperor is not our friend, but not a hated enemy either". When we took on the Mantis Treasurer, our clan rating with them was *5*. *That* was terrible. If I recall correctly, 35 was pretty close to what every clan in the Empire started out as at the beginning of the game.
At the same time...

Iuchi Hanae, appeared more innovative, had more of a conversation with our PC (not one-sided prodding from our PC), and showed she is not starting at an absolute zero understanding in matters of close combat, subtlety, or conversation, as well as possessing a adaptive mind.
Edit: Also, there is no downside to going to look at the Lion brides? No downside to choosing a Unicorn bride after looking at the Lion brides?

Narratively we probably haven't only been looking at Unicorns, those are just the ones that Gman chose to focus on.
If we just ignored all of the major clans right now they would be livid.
I will be blunt, you will look at everyone, but the idea of writing up 30 + Meetings with pictures in a single post, makes me want to throw my laptop out a window. So I am limiting to one clan per post just for my own sanity.
