Part of why I feel like Medusa is our ally is that our most dear possession is made in the shape of one of her minions. Furthermore, the setting's most famous god is Kirby, so the gods wanting to be our friends is on theme. Sure, what Medusa thinks is best for us will be based in her inhuman perspective, but that just means we should get in contact with her.
Our mother is very heavily implied to have been in her cult. Thats why we have the Plushy.
Edit: Like, the helping was less her helping our mother out of the goodness of her heart, and more 'welcoming lost lamb back into the fold'
That doesn't make her an ally, and whilst she might have some ability to care... I doubt that the positions of good and bad are randomly being switched for one of the 8Bit crossovers.

Yep. Generally, 8BD does preserve the morality of the original characters as far as I can tell, outside of gags like druggie Bubsy or loan shark Tom Nook (Mario is still implied to be kind and heroic, ETC), so I doubt Medusa is good news.
Even evil gods need loyal servants. Like, yeah we probably could ally with her if we wanted, possibly even to great benefit. But if her goals and motives remain the same as stated that will be an issue, since the entire point of this whole alien fighting thing was to save humanity. So more likely we're going to end up fighting our mom.

Martial: Challenge Sharks to Baseball / Supress Agressive Animals
Diplomacy: Pick up Trash / Protest / Talk to the Sharks
Stewardship: Interact with Factory / Make Money / Psychic Healing (Reduced suspicion generation with Kyoko)
Intrigue: Sneak into the Arcade / Sneakily go after the controlled people and see what we can do about them.
Learning: Look into Animals / Research Armor / Research Pharmaceuticals
do you think supressing aggressive animals could be achieved by taking the hill?
it would get rid of at least some of them and give us something useful at the same time. as a big area with nobody present (and close to the entertainer's shack) i'd assume it's a space with a large congregation of them
currently i'm most after a plan with the following (no plan yet though, this is just bringing these actions to the table)
note this plan lacks community-focused stuff but i'm not too keen on that, for one we're a gang so it'd end up weird, for two if we do that before talking to the sharks we'd lose out on the opportunity for diplomacy with them due to us being lame? and regardless of if you want them to join us, us to work with them, or for them to be crushed, it'd definitely help a bunch of things do that first.
for nationals take the hill (on top of rendering an area with a bunch of animals/that the slugs may be at clear, having territory should open up a bunch of options that may be important depending on what happens, and it's good to have somewhere to hunker down if things heat up later)(kyoko here would give the most stats, though if PSI warrior procs we could put buzz buzz on it and assign her to diplo?) talk to the sharks (possibly delays gang war, if not it should curtail alien influence and distract/disrupt them more, very valuable. if we want to tip the scales Kyoko could go here, though she doesn't have the best diplomacy)) invest more in the factory if possible, the cost could have gone down or if not look for stuff in the woods (a mystery box is better than pure funds if we don't have much to buy (only big thing is more investment but if that's a factor passive income/the action going away will sort it out, and while we may want to build facilities/base upgrade lab's free and the rest will take time, so i don't expect funding them being a major issue?) plus if we're lucky we might get more info on bug activity/cull their numbers a bit if we don't get mind controlled) whatever the best thing to delay a gang war/oppose bugs is (will have to see what's available next turn but keeping my mind open. at the very least right now I don't think we need to give much more attention to OPF, since now we know their current win condition and endgame/that they're planning a crackdown, which should be good enough?) look into animals (low DC, doesn't need a lab, and could get us some advantages against incoming incidents/the hill, so seems a good call? plus an easy spot to put buzz buzz on for the same reasons as researching disturbances if we don't think their PSI-warrior trait works on the hill (note: want to get them a cover no matter what, but this action will be good if that doesn't roll well/doesn't take effect beforehand)
for our personals I'm thinking "ensure loyalty, chat with Kyoko, meditate, do taxes"
should take advantage of Cass's new stuff that'd be otherwise locked by depression before they risk getting locked away, especially since those could be important to saying out of depression. training is important (could lead to issues in the dreamlands, but better than it happening without preparation) and figuring out more about our financial situation may suck, but it'll suck far less than our debt turning out to be worse than anticipated.
also want to retry ensuring loyalty since that didn't go too well last turn and it's important for general success, along with interacting with kyoko since she's +15 loyalty atm (so if we do it again that gives us the stat bonus from +25, on top of being good for friendship/finding out more about her, and since it's aliens have probably just been revealed it might be important to help her cope?
sadly doing other people would take too much time and stop us from getting other stuff done. even if friends help deal with depression we need to do practical stuff to improve our situation to get in a better mental state too
for hero personals
buzz-buzz should craft a cover identity, would be best to try and get around their problems with interacting with people before it's needed (might not work but this is the best place to start)
and for porky i'm thinking we could get him some snacks? wouldn't be major compared to other options, however if he's now *stuff motivated* then him having stuff could be extra helpful for happiness/loyalty on top of the base reward? plus it might tie into the bodysnatcher's sugar thing now i think of it
lastly we get Kyoko's personals this turn but no clue what they are atm, will have to see

i think the plushie thing was because mom was a worshiper too previously? which isn't inherently good or bad
if we're already a worshiper by technicality it could make sense to keep that "positive" relationship up, but unfortunately that doesn't mean they'll do what we want even if we try and convince her.
good point reminding us about her helping out prevent Giygas from blowing up her office though, that's worth at least some Kudos.
i think the important thing is that whether she's good or bad(i guess a matter of perspective), she's probably manipulative and we don't want influences on CD's mental state like that
So like... she doesn't have any real beef against us in particular, bu her distaste for humanity will probably set her against us naturally. I'm not sure what we could do to improve her disposition either, unless she gives us a Quest or something.
handy summary, though worth noting some stuff may be different due to 8-bit lore @nihartma . for instance if she was on princeps dominaire before humans she might be opposed to them for "being an invasive species" reasons (come to think of it if vidiri is here that/the megacorps would make her even *more* mad, wow) but if she came with humanity things may be somewhat better? and both are possible since Psychic stuff was a thing on earth, but god stuff is a thing in Hylia
To be fair, Medusa also helped our mom choose not to suicide bomb her workplace, so it was a bit better than that.
In fact, I think it is safe to say that Medusa is probably the nicest Big Faction Leader we've seen in Quest so far, which admittedly is like calling her "the snapping turtle least likely to bite off your fingers".

Tom is absolutely a mafia don who is taking advantage of us to get in on a new Market. He's only less bad because he actually seems to run a buisness instead of being out for World Domination, but the guy will break your kneecaps if you don't pay up.

Note that while Porky's motivation for coolness has some overlap with materialism, it's probably not just generally wanting stuff, but rather stuff that fits with his ideas of a cool/aspirational lifestyle. From this, I'm guessing that any good snacks he can get through a personal probably don't fit the idea of getting it as a sort of compensation for helping us.
I still agree that it's a decent action for next turn, as there's not that much else for him to do aside from getting a mole.
His 'do a second intrigue action' personal would be a bad idea right now, because two of those intrigue actions involve action against the police, which would give them a pretense for cracking down.

oh yeah good point on the bonus intrigue action, definitely glad we didn't pick that recently
also reasonable take regarding snacks. i guess rather than trying to make him go "being in this faction is a good thing because they give snacks"(technically true, we did that turn one) i hope that him having more snacks would lead to him feeling like things in his life are going better (and thus generally lead to greater happiness/satisfaction)?
Am I the only one here who's hoping to see Medusa become Cass's Flawed-Secondary-Mother-figure or what? I mean yes, she is a scary dark goddess, but chances are she'll probably want Humanity around for a little while longer if only to spite Giygas and put the wannabe God of Evil in his place, all the while coddling her pissy reluctant (soon-to-be) follower that is.
(I don't care how low of a chance of "Auntie Medusa" has of happening, the image of her doting on Cass while trying to sway her further to the dark (read fun) side while Cass tells her to fuck off is stuck in my head and it amuses me so).
just checking @Crosswire is there any mechanical results of the learning action that got missed? i'm guessing it impacted intrigue a little/might update some actions but in most circumstances you've said that iirc so just wanted to check if it got missed or not
Apologies, I did miss on putting that up. I'll edit that shortly.
The results are that you've gotten a pretty firm grip on how dire the situation is in Onnet at the moment. This will make certain actions in the following turns easier since you have better information/context to work off of.
Dinner with Andre recontextualized through the end of earth's recorded history was a neat lens, but, ajnkwbenjkawejnkjnk this one still gets me.
ALSO ROCKY AND FUCKING BULLWINKLE IS BANNED MEDIA (or old)
Ah, that was a typo! I did admittedly get this out at least 4 AM for me. So I mixed up the stats from one item in my notes.
The Xterminator spray does give a +10 to Martial against bugs/bug adjacent creatures. With the idea of why it's more potent then regular insecticide being that it's been kicking around since the 70s. So it's like a fine wine, if you measured the quality of wine by how much cancer it could potentially give you.
Note: There's going to be a little delay for getting the turn up. There are some Omakes and things I haven't gotten to that I'd like to reward people for. I'm also planning on putting up an Omake Bounty board with some fun ideas.
The next turn will be up before New Years however.

Speaking of Medusa, and the rest of... everything... happening.
Remember when, back in Turn 2 or 3, our "patient" had a freakout about the possibility of Gods and Pantheons Still existing?
Now, wouldn't it be really funny if, on repeat Successful "Heal People with PSi" Action, the Rumor of "Deities Amongst Us" became more prominent? If more people became invested in that, if old cults and new cults became more "in-the-known"?
Wouldn't that be extremely funny?
(oh, and it might also create some problems for Gygas and other factions, which means we [Outlanders] can do much more undisturbed)
by the way, Mx.Crosswire, I made another omake a long time ago. You... kinda forgot to rate it. Or say if it was canon-adjecent or not.
Is there someone here who could maybe drop some kid icarus lore so we could maybe get a better idea of what Medusa's deal is? Because the only thing I know is that she's the bad guy. What are her personality and motives, how does she go about pursuing those motives, is there a plausible reason we wouldn't be opposed to her, etc.
she's as simple as they come, especially if we are limited to the "first couple of gaming generations" iterations of a character.
in this case, Medusa is like her Greek Mythological Counterpart - just swap out Poseidon and Athena with Palutena (without the s*x stuff)
If we went with her "Kid Icarus Uprising" version, then she would be more like Roman Medusa..... mainly in the fact that she's more "beautiful woman with snake hair" than "abomination with big fangs and snake hair".
Medusa (冥界女王メデューサ Meikai Joō Medyūsa, "Underworld Queen Medusa") is the Goddess of Darkness, and former co-ruler of the now defunct Angel Land. She is the main antagonist of the original Kid Icarus, and the central antagonist of Kid Icarus: Uprising, in which she later becomes a supporting...
I will say, while Bound to Earth will be adhering largely to the gaming generations limitation (with one notable exception), that doesn't mean interpretations will be limited solely to what's shown in those games. Certain concepts may be cribbed if they fit into the nature of things.
healing for money increases suspicion, i think that would do the opposite of calm things down? and if trash is diplo that'd prevent other actions that may be more important
Bird of a Feather: Kyoko has really hit it off with you. People tend to focus on two delinquents rather then what the delinquents are doing. Kyoko's resting Opinion with CD will always be +10 unless betrayed. When assigned to an action with CD that would otherwise generate Suspicion due to PSI usage, etc, roll a 1d100. If the result is 1 to 5, no suspicion is generated. Otherwise the amount of Suspicion generated is merely lowered.
I said this a little bit ago during discussion, but Kyoko's worth recruiting for this trait alone. (reads as typing) gah nerdsniped.
Suspicion will still get generated, and that is a problem worth avoiding wherever we can... and Kyoko deployed to the action as damage control is probably a worthwhile one.
That said!
I think having Kyoko deployed to next turn's military action, whether it's
Baseball: Outfielders vs Sharks
Or Squash The Bugs
Is going to be more crucial to our success next turn. That is unless we engage with say: "Deploy BB to Squash Bugs using Psi Shield liberally" (synergized with Xterminator Spray use, synergized with Cover Story). That combo would be a higher success % due to "use PSI instead of Mil", and would free up Kyoko for deployment otherwise.
(keeps reading) ah geez 2 pages of discussion from where I re-entered thread, okies...

OKAY, fantastico!! Then I cement my stance on: We should squash the FUCK outta the bugs next turn. It might also still be too soon...
So my backup is that we baseball against the sharks for next turn if it's not available.
I wonder if we could use the mayoral papers to transfer ownership of all of the mayor's stock in the baseball factory to CD
In her original appearance in Kid Icarus, she was co-ruling Angel Land with Palutena, but grew bitter towards humanity who prayed to the gods when things were going poorly, but paid them no heed when things were going well. Feeling used and manipulated, Medusa started sending plagues and destroying crops to avenge herself on humanity. Palutena cursed Medusa to take on her traditional Gorgon form, and threw her into the Underworld as punishment. Medusa swore revenge.
After attaining the allegiance of the Underworld monsters, Medusa attacked Angel Land and managed to imprison Palutena, curse the Centurions to turn to stone, and fill it with her Underworld army. This is when the events of Kid Icarus takes place, as Pit needs to steal back the Sacred Treasures and use them to defeat Medusa.
So like... she doesn't have any real beef against us in particular, bu her distaste for humanity will probably set her against us naturally. I'm not sure what we could do to improve her disposition either, unless she gives us a Quest or something.
...this recontextualizes the man in the flashback a bit. if he's not Carpainter, it's still "well, that sure is probably a shitty dude"
my stance can be quoted from Lemon Demon's bonus track "crisis actors" View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZOcLRRDYh4
"malevolent gods are better than none"
maybe not wholesale endorsing that take, but like, I can see Medusa being rehabilitated + redeemed more than Gigyas
I think we might be reading a little more into Medusa's actions so far, but insights in the community tend to be more accurate, so eh, this should be fun no matter what. It'd be funny if Medusa has a grudge against Paula for no reason other than her name right lol
Same brain. We bought ourselves another 3 turns, and those are probably the best usage of them
I would tentatively swap out loyalty with Go To School, just because CD will be turning 17 sooner or later, and that puts her on the clock for graduation, SLASH "what do you mean delinquent? I'm attending school" rehabilitate her reputation. I've got some eye on "recruit at school" or otherwise wrangling the behaved demographic under the outfielders.
Otherwise, I think the national action plans are looking neat, divergent from each other or not 8D
Also, I love that we appear to be on the Porky redemption arc path. We are saving hypothetical-Lucas a LOT of trouble if we pull this off. Actually...Meh, i'll put this massive only-vaguely-quest-adjacent ramble in another paragraph:
The Porky/Ness relationship is arguably the central conflict of Earthbound. Giygas is, at the point we see him in Earthbound, more set piece then character, a force of pure evil who just swirls around and says awful confusing things, but doesn't really have, like, motivation, goals, a history, a conflict with the hero...He had those in Mother, but he doesn't really by this point, his power has destroyed his mind. We are invited to fear him, even pity him...But there's no real realationship. Which means that Porky IS the main antagonist in most ways. Now, the Ness/Porky relationship in the original game is hard to classify (only one of them has actual dialog, and he is not a reliable narrator). We know he's Ness's neighbor, presumably has known him for awhile, his parents are wealthier then Ness, and are also disgusting, miserable people, awful parents who raised an awful child. Whether or not he and Ness are, or ever were, friends, is up to interpretation. But it's made clear that, even from the start, Porky sucks. He tells Ness to buzz off and stop cramping his style even as he pesters the cops at the meteor site. He patronizes Ness's mother. When he and Ness run into trouble during their search for Picky, Pokey whines, gets in the way, and is generally utterly useless the whole time. Porky is a slobbish, dishonest, immature, self-centered coward, the exact opposite of Ness, who is brave, smart, honest, and all-around excellent, he is everything that Ness is not, and, as Magicant informs us, he is jealous. He resents his handsome, athletic, popular, goody two-shoes neighbor for being better and, more importantly, happier then he will ever be, while paradoxically craving his approval. In a sense, I think Earthbound is the tale of two journeys. One, Ness's journey, where he meets an alien, communes with the ultimate intelligence of the universe, and becomes a hero. The other, the origin story of a villain. Porky's story, where he meets an alien, makes contact with the very avatar of evil, and becomes a monster. Their journey started at the same place, the meteor crash site when Buzz Buzz appears and calls Ness the destined hero who will save the universe from Giygas, all while not even acknowledging Porky. And you know he hates that. Soon, Ness ditches Porky and sets out to find the Eight Melodies, meet up with his destined companions (all of them far nicer and cooler people than Pokey), and play outs a classic hero's journey...All while Giygas selects his own champion, offers him something, we don't know what, and he sets out to make Ness envy him for once. It's a tragic story, of a jealous loser kid from a shitty upper-middle class white suburban American family who are ostentatious, dysfunctional, and miserable. But it's a story that ends badly, that ends with Mother 3, and, well...Not well for Porky.
But this isn't Earthbound. Not entirely. And We. Aren't. Ness. We aren't that paragon of thirteen-year old perfection and virtue, handsome, popular...Good. Happy. All things we aren't. Ness is great, but we aren't Ness, and we never can be. We've done wrong. It's not been specified yet, but...CD's reputation is not an accident, not entirely, she's made that clear. She has red in that ledger. But she's a kid. A kid who has been forced into a world no child should have to deal with. Kids make mistakes, that's how they learn to be adults. But a society that punishes children the first time they step out of line, a society like Onett in this quest...It makes people like Porky. He's rude, obnoxious, a troublemaker. The worst person in the neighborhood. How do you think people describe us? And if anyone should know the value of second chances...It's a goddamm delinquent. Maybe it's too early to start trusting him, he could still betray us anytime he wants, but...Everyone deserves a chance. Right? I don't know, this got weirdly philosophical. Point is, I like the idea of not writing off Porky as just a bad kid doomed to evil, because...Well...That's kinda what people do to us, isn't it? There's hope for him. Hope for us.
