So we've got a bunch of decaying old core powers who keep destroying themselves in wars against each other, a bunch of powers who I assume are of a similar power to us getting ready for war, and new nations forming behind some very competent military leaders. It's a lot of useful info, and I can't wait until we run into some of these characters.

However, I think we first need to figure out who our neighbors are. Its kind of mortifying that we don't even know who they are, much less where exactly our nation is located in between all the players noted here.

Note you are one of the Oldest Powers in the Interregnum...And there is a reason for that.

It will take quite a Bit to make sure your nation dies with you.

Not a lot in the Grand scheme of things, but it will take some actual effort.

Edit: The guy's around you are only 350 to 400 years old AT most to put into some perspective.

So, he's secured his future rule.. but should we be worried? Is the caliphate normally divided in civil war between siblings, and not much of a threat to others? or is he shaping up to be a normal ruler of theirs, with how he has secured things?

Here's how it goes...If it isn't in Civil War it means they've got a VERY Competent leader in charge. Its based on the Ottomans for a reason.

Welp, he halfway there. That's not scary at all... And we have a trading compact with them, so they're probably really close too.

Just because you've killed all the other claimants does not mean you've killed all your rivals.
.. How the hell does an upjumped policeman get the legitimacy to put on the crown. More worryingly, how the fuck do you start fighting your own secret police! That sounds like a nightmare.

This feels like that story about the Byzantinian Emperor who got power after being born a peasant... but instead, it sounds like a space civilization that tries to ensure something similar may happen every generation. It doesn't sound safe or stable at all

Also, I hope the army is enough to burn out the secret police, but wow, will he be jumping at all the shadows. I can't imagine ever sleeping soundly until he's sure they are gone (and I'm not sure that every happens)

Try a palace Coup every two months.

Its only able to function as well as it can because the Space Pope's successors that he wants normally wins (The Founder Dynasty usually)

The Army already are experts at killing Secret Police, its how they train sometimes.

They can do Subtle...its just sometimes they choose not to.
Meant more it seems like those guys are uniquely equipped to handle such issues, like spooks, sneaky side of special forces, and guerilla tactics in general...
In other words, assuming I was commanded a very well balanced force, I would try to stick to more 'conventional' tactics, to try and not play to their strengths.
