Thoughts in order of appearance:
Dang... They need to issue instant sleeping pills, stat.
D'awww...~
Yes! I support 'laska's determination.
And finally... D'AAAAAWWWWWW~~! Cameron better hope to hell that nothing happens between them (not that it would) because the second it does I'm taking 'laska and guarding her like a dog with a new bone.

Also, I kinda am looking forward to Jersey's counter-retort from my post above.

Anyone else think that after they obliterate Abyssmark and Tirpitzal from Hawaii that they're going to return to California and 'Laska will jump Cameron for a...victory celebration? :D

Here's hoping. How's that chapter coming along by the way?

Well considering that 1/3 the Kido Butai is coming to the party, along with the second and third Yamato, and New Jersey along with CC Saratoga and CB Alaska to lead the screen...yeah. There might not be enough Abyssal Nazis for everyone to get their shots in.

Especially since all the USN girls have major axes to grind involving the desecration of Pearl, Kaga and Akagi also have their own feelings on the matter, Naka's out for blood to avenge her sister and Pringles wants Abyssmark dead for desecrating her friend. In fact, about the only girls present who don't have a grudge listed are Musashi and Shinano.

OOoff....

Finally caught up on this monster. We really need an 'Archive Panic' tag to warn off the less committed.

Wonder who's gonna get summoned up next?

Oh, hey! You guys know that the Navy used to have hydroplane missile boats? They were called 'Pegasus-class' fast attack missile boats and were originally intended to go up against their Soviet counterparts in the Baltics. But since the rest of the Warsaw-pact members pulled out of that endeavour, the Pegasus boats were relegated to anti-narco operations in the Gulf.

They were fast little buggers with a top speed of 48 knots, and carried two RGM-84 Harpoons and a 76mm/62cal OTO Malera gun. Not a lot of kaboom, mind, but enough that would give Abysals in the Gulf pause for consideration due to the sheer amount of speed they can pour on.

I'd imagine that these ships would manifest as animals like the K-Class blimps do... Only these would be Greyhounds. (You know, fast hunting dogs.) They'd be the perfect thing to harass and literally hound on Abysals in the Gulf.

Also, thoughts about Arleigh Burkes coming back as Ship Girls...

...I know, they aren't really old enough, but some of them I think have enough character to pull it off.

In particular, the USS Stethem.

Why?

Because the Stethem Family is VERY close with the ship as it bears the namesake of their boy, Steelworker 2nd-Class Robert Dean Stethem - he was the sailor that was killed by Libyan terrorists on that Pan-Am flight back in the late 80's.

There's is a family with a long and proud history in the US Navy, and whenever they're able to they can be counted on to show up on board for the annual celebration of Robbie's birthday.

The crew all answers to 'Steelworker' they proudly use the Seabee's mascot as their own. (This has caused some confusion in the past where people see the Seabee on their command ball caps and think that they're from some construction ship before they realise that a ship with the hull number DDG-63 can't possibly be a construction ship.)

And while I was on there, the Stethem was quite possibly the best damn DDG in the entire fleet.

We and the Stethem family all like to think that Robbie's actually there on the ship, keeping an eye on things.

Oh, are we gonna have any Burkes on hand for the assault on Pearl? Because if there are, then may I suggest usage of the KE-ET round for the Mk45 gun? (You say it like kEEt)

KE-ET is Kinetic Energy, Electronically Timed. In essence, it's a canister-shot round. At the specified time interval, the ET fuse triggers the low-explosive charge to pop the shell and release the payload of 9,000 pieces of tungsten carbide ball-shot.

I'm pretty sure that even with Abysal magic bullshitery, KE-ET would make a bit of a difference in dealing with the Abysal foot soldiers and shock troops. ;)

Welcome to the thread! You're right it is a long read to catch up on! Always good to hear new ideas.

Thank you for your service! Stethem sounds like a great ship. Unfortunately, I think she and others from the 50s- current day may be outside the scope of this story, especially for summoning.

Anyway, its good to have another fan alongside us following this adventure!

For summoning, sure. I mean, I'm still trying to get JMPer to give us a Des Moines to utterly ruin the day of any Abyssal cruiser that shows up, and even they (commissioned in 1948-49) are pushing the limits...

However, there's nothing that says that Stethem couldn't have been one of the surviving steel-hulls and make an appearance at some point--particularly since she's spent her entire career in the Pacific Fleet, and is, at least according to Wikipedia, currently homeported at Yokosuka. Indeed, since we know that Burkes are being used as AA escorts for shipgirls, she might well be escorting the contingent deploying from Yokosuka to retake Pearl!

I could even see a way for Robbie to have a role... because Stethem has been in many, many fights with the Abyssals, and her sensors always work a little bit better against them, her missiles track them a little bit better, she's pulled off feats of agility to dodge incoming Abyssal fire that no other Burke has pulled (and that she can't recreate when not under fire), and she's managed to keep fighting and then limp home with damage that should have sunk her... and then, when she makes it back to drydock, the damage always turns out to be a lot less severe than it seemed, allowing her to be repaired more quickly.

You know. Things that only one other remaining steel-hull in the US Navy can pull off... the reactivated sub-hunter known as FFG-58.

So among other things from the latest chapter, I can now see how air travel for ship girls plays out. For boats who've never been carriers, its utter misery, for someone like Saratoga, who was a carrier in her original life but came back as a BC. Its nausiating but its not a vomit fest. Unlike what happened to Alaska and Jerjer. So I theorize that for Carriers, they either won't be affected at all, or by the time they touch down. They'll only need half a minute at most to be fine or a small sip of seawater.

Or else be like, "WHEE! THAT'S what my pilots got to experience every time they launched off my deck?! AWESOME! I wanna go again!" :D

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that during the Battle for Pearl, there would be a super angry Fleet Carrier that would self-summon just through pure anger, giving the poor Nazi botes a terrible case of Phasmophobia?

There might be some carriers you don't want to fly:

An email received by Adm. Williams-

To: VADM Williams
Fr: USS White Plains, LT (jg)
Re: Request for Transfer to USAF to become a C-5 Pilot

Adm. Williams shakes his head and pours another glass of scotch....

as the title suggests this is Belated BATTLESHIPS not belated CVs.

I'm saying this now before 600 people dogpile you about there not being any more Fleet Carriers being summoned.

i say Montana should be summoned. nothing says fuck you like 12 sixteen inch 2700 pounds of armour piercing rounds. or load her up with katie rounds. make the world glow!

I liked this update, showing how the different types of girls respond to air travel. You sometimes have to feel so bad for Shinano. She's a heck of a fighter, but so, so shy with such low self esteem.

Hopefully, she Can work through some of her issues before war's end. Otherwise:

Jersey drags Shinano over to meet the newly returned Enterprise.
Jersey: Enterprise, I'd like you to meet one of my friends.
Enterprise: (puts out her hand) Shinano, the hero of Japan, its an honor to meet you.
Shinano: (can't speak, can't move, finally opens her mouth and promptly throws up on Big E's shoes. Immediately runs away to hide behind Arizona)

"Hey, what the hell!? Get off of me!"
Shinano: (now terrified) Oh! Sorry, Aunt Pennsy! I thought you were Mama Ari!"
Pennsy: Well she's over there. What are you doing, anyway? Hiding from Enterprise?
Shinano: (still behind Pennsy) Mm-hmm
Pennsy: Ok, I'll take you to Ari, if for no other reason, that was a beautiful shot on her. (Chuckles) Its been 70 years since I saw Enterprise in a situation where she didn't look in total control. And don't call me Aunt!
Shinano: Sorry Aunt Pennsy.

As I mentioned before, that particular carrier is busy negotiating with "Bill" to convince him that she's not leaving for good, this is just a job that must be done.

That said, I could easily see Yorkie, Horney ("DON'T CALL ME THAT!"), Lexie, Ranger, and Wasp struggling with Davy Jones enough that the Abyssals end up seeing apparitions of them at their berths on Carrier Row and promptly needing a new set of diapers. (They aren't able to self-summon, because Davy is proving that he's part kraken, part Gracie, as he wrestles them back all at once, but they're able to manifest enough to be visible and audible and obviously PISSED THE HELL OFF...)

My personal headcanon is that the Fleet Carriers WANT to come back, but are being barred from returning by Davy Jones. So they can only watch helplessly as a heck of a lot of blood is shed by both American Sailors and Shipgirls.

The first American Fleet Carriers that show up after the war would probably throw themselves at the feet of whatever US Admiral they can find, begging for forgiveness, and/or asking to be locked up for Deleriction of Duty.
