OOoff....
Finally caught up on this monster. We really need an 'Archive Panic' tag to warn off the less committed.
Wonder who's gonna get summoned up next?
Oh, hey! You guys know that the Navy used to have hydroplane missile boats? They were called 'Pegasus-class' fast attack missile boats and were originally intended to go up against their Soviet counterparts in the Baltics. But since the rest of the Warsaw-pact members pulled out of that endeavour, the Pegasus boats were relegated to anti-narco operations in the Gulf.
They were fast little buggers with a top speed of 48 knots, and carried two RGM-84 Harpoons and a 76mm/62cal OTO Malera gun. Not a lot of kaboom, mind, but enough that would give Abysals in the Gulf pause for consideration due to the sheer amount of speed they can pour on.
I'd imagine that these ships would manifest as animals like the K-Class blimps do... Only these would be Greyhounds. (You know, fast hunting dogs.) They'd be the perfect thing to harass and literally hound on Abysals in the Gulf.
Also, thoughts about Arleigh Burkes coming back as Ship Girls...
...I know, they aren't really old enough, but some of them I think have enough character to pull it off.
In particular, the USS Stethem.
Why?
Because the Stethem Family is VERY close with the ship as it bears the namesake of their boy, Steelworker 2nd-Class Robert Dean Stethem - he was the sailor that was killed by Libyan terrorists on that Pan-Am flight back in the late 80's.
There's is a family with a long and proud history in the US Navy, and whenever they're able to they can be counted on to show up on board for the annual celebration of Robbie's birthday.
The crew all answers to 'Steelworker' they proudly use the Seabee's mascot as their own. (This has caused some confusion in the past where people see the Seabee on their command ball caps and think that they're from some construction ship before they realise that a ship with the hull number DDG-63 can't possibly be a construction ship.)
And while I was on there, the Stethem was quite possibly the best damn DDG in the entire fleet.
We and the Stethem family all like to think that Robbie's actually there on the ship, keeping an eye on things.
Oh, are we gonna have any Burkes on hand for the assault on Pearl? Because if there are, then may I suggest usage of the KE-ET round for the Mk45 gun? (You say it like kEEt)
KE-ET is Kinetic Energy, Electronically Timed. In essence, it's a canister-shot round. At the specified time interval, the ET fuse triggers the low-explosive charge to pop the shell and release the payload of 9,000 pieces of tungsten carbide ball-shot.
I'm pretty sure that even with Abysal magic bullshitery, KE-ET would make a bit of a difference in dealing with the Abysal foot soldiers and shock troops.
