HELL YES!!! Let's clear the barrels of those 16s!

We did, once. Raised the left gun of Turret 1 and set off a hundred pounds of black powder for a Navy SEAL event soon after we opened. Set off car alarms a full mile away.

Unfortunately tons of people thought something had exploded in the harbor and called 911. Afterward the fire department said, "That was awesome! Never do it again."

Damn killjoys...

Um, yes, please? *Attempts DesDiv 6 puppy-eyes.*
i would show up for that.
Who wouldn't?! :D
what better way to end a 4th of July fireworks display then by firing gunpowder through a 16in barrel.
Throw in a huge steak, some barbecue, apple pie, A&W Root Beer, and Blue Bell vanilla ice cream and that's Patriotism Overload. :)
could you imagine if they could actually make a firework shell for that? like damn. hell that would be cool even if it didn't use a powder bag to propel it out
*Ideas begin running through my head; smacks self* No, bad Radar! :D

YouTube is our friend! Here and here. Those two channels are the heads of the ships Operations and Tours departments, so they got lots of cool videos of other stuff too!

The trick is to invite them before the firing, not after. :p

>Implying they weren't all recording it on their phones while standing alongside in the fireboats.

Edit: fixed links

welp, because I am-
A) sick with a cold
&
B) got time on my hands...

A statement like- "Iowa has a fat ass"

equals

You never call an Iowa fat. Not unless you want to be a shell magnet.

She isn't fat! She's -expansive!- >^,^< *vanishes in a hail of 16" shells*

Which is why I recorded the gameplay clip...took it into Premiere Pro, trimmed it, grabbed my avatar in photoshop, cleaned it up, took the entire mess into After Effects and put it all together then rendered it out...

...because you can say it...

...or you can show it:evil:...

Johnston: Ooooo. Just a few bags of powder, then.....FUN TIME!!
Arizona: I don't think firing off the main battery of a museum ship in a major city would be a good idea....
Johnston: (looking at her shoes) ok ...you're probably right...
Pennsy: Ari! Don't say things like that to destroyers! It hinders their creativity!
Arizona: Pennsy! I am responsible for them while we are out sightseeing. Please support me, it's hard enough to wrangle them and you...
Pennsy: Fine...I'll follow your lead.
Heerman: (whispers to Johnston as soon as Arizona is out of earshot) Let's go see if Mikasa's guns work....Pennsylvania thinks it's ok....
Johnston: (grins) yeah....

Diplomatic hilarity ensues.....

**Picture is actually from USS Texas

They stopped that back in '09 or so.
Well, crap. If I was a Hollywood big-shot, I'd go over to the Iowa in San Pedro and talk with the Curator.

ME: Hi. You know who I am. One of the items on my bucket list is to see battleship guns fire with my own eyes. Here's $3 million for fuel to steam offshore for a day and a couple broadsides. Whaddya say? :D

Aside from the fact that I'm pretty sure it would cost significantly more than that to crew an outfit an Iowa to do that, sign me the fuck up!
