Really, that's probably just because the sound doesn't quite work with two different calibers of cannon, and I'm not sure Jer has enough 16" guns to do the Overture with only those, or enough 5" guns on any given side to do the Overture solely with her secondary gun battery (the acoustics would make the 5" guns on the other side of the ship much less useful unless the sound pickups were scattered on both sides of the ship). Not to mention, I'm pretty sure that the 16" guns would max out any sound equipment brought within a few 100 meters every time they fired.

Just because Gale's building a hull doesn't give her shipgirl-grade dentation. She's better off sticking to metallic suppliments meant for human consumption, just in destroyer-rated quantities. Given that they're likely being pulled out of her blood at a massive rate, I doubt she needs to worry about any of the overdosing effects metallics have on the human body.
Although, I'll grant that she's likely popping iron supplements like those Tic-Tacs you mentioned.
