The age problem raises a tricky point though.
Well, as it stands, the shipgirl fleet as a whole is going to suffer from the tragedy of long life quite harshly. I just don't think anyone in-universe has realized it yet. Or has any means of doing so. It's purely meta at this point.
... I just realized that Mutsu is gonna be likely surrounded by Destroyers and Destroyer Escorts for the next nine months once word gets out. And the thing will be, no one asked them to do it, they all just do it on their own.
Looks like they'll need to set up more beds at the Richardson home.

And then allied sub activity in the region skyrockets. Mutsu mysteriously has everything she needs before she can ask for it.

I think some of the smarter ones have probably realized it, and are ignoring it for now because hey, there's a war on.

Just imagine the Reaction the Taffies will have when news gets to them, let alone when they get a chance to see Mutsu again...

oh great. I just imagined all the Destroyers and DE's guarding Mutsu suddenly having Mirrored Aviators and Glued on Mustaches after a meeting with the Taffies. :lol

mmmmmmm.

Sleepy day. Gonna make more 'laska/tago/Cam cutes to bully author into reading ZeppellinQuest.

I wholeheartedly agree. Drydock or the Mikasa treatment. Something to preserve her.

From my understanding, the Mikasa treatment could be worse if they don't get the vapor barrier just right. Still, I know there are already plans for permanent drydocking, and I think some of the prep work is being done.

Just imagine all the trouble they'll get into once they start walking...

Never mind walking, think about their first bath. Suppose instead of settling into the baby bath, they float? It would be a pretty good indicator of how strongly shipgirl heritage passes on, though I guess that message tapped out sort of indicated that hull costruction was a given for both kids.

Speaking of which, I wonder if the sort of steel alloy cravings Mutsu's going to be getting will give any hints of just what type of hulls are being assembled? Will she favor STS for snacking, or a more traditional diet of DS, NVNC, VC, and VH alloys? (Actually, it's going to be interesting to see how our Admiral manages to find anything to satisfy those cravings, considering that I'm not sure any of them have had production runs in decades. Mutsu's MSSB will have to work overtime for any forgotten stockpiles to turn up.)

Don't forget Krupp Cemented Armor.

Richardson: Girls, what did I tell you about floating in the bath?
Mutsu: You know they don't understand Admiral yet, right~
Richardson: I can dream.
The Twins: *unintelligible baby ship sounds*

Richardson: Become one with Supply. I am the NCO...

even worse Mutsu's going to have to be the stern parent during their teenage years because I don't think threats will hold much weight without a foot of steel and 8-10 16 in naval rifle backing them up.

Then again, Mutsu can't exactly pull the "You're not going out dressed like that" card when she herself regularly parades around in a skirt only somewhat longer than her belt.
