I remember seeing that discussion back when I started reading. Unfortunately, we have not received a clear answer.

To be given a clear answer would simply ruin the fun and surprise. Old Iron's doin it on Purpose to keep us guessing and wondering. Like everytime we seemingly forget about all of that, he puts out something to tease us a lil bit more about it. Least that's what I believe, that and I believe the answer to that question might be something fundamental to the story as a whole. So he'd have good reason as to not give a clear answer about it when asked, and show no reaction when we get close to guessing it.

Though then again, being a longtime fan of the X-files has left me as the kind to see things that might not even be a thing...

Either way though I think the time is coming where we might see either more solid evidence for that theory or even the answer to that question. I mean... who knows if Richardson hit the mark on the first try with Mutsu after she commanded him to love her in #14099. Who only but Iron knows the answer to that for the moment, At least until we see a few Destroyers put Hydrophones against Mutsu's Belly like they dd with Gale. But I do feel that Iron's posts are nearing something very Major. What exactly and its nature I could only guess, but something's coming soon enough. I think.
Then again I could just be utterly insane or just drunk. Probably Drunk

What, Mutslug and Richardson finally getting together wasn't major enough for you?
Oh yes that was very major. But I long ago figured it was gonna happen from the way those two acted like a old married couple. However I think it might be a prelude to something even bigger coming. Call it a funny feeling (or Drunken Insanity) but there's more than a few narrative threads that all seem to be converging into one or two major focal points. Those points being Their exact order of Convergence isn't known but if i were to hazard a guess,
The next major post from Iron will involve Ari and Pennsy. and perhaps show the aftermath of Richardson's and Mutslug's night of Passion (Depending on that one post Iron made on the anniversary of Mutsu's Launching place in the timeline of things but i don't think it happened directly after they finally got together.)

Now where's that van...

CRAP HE'S KNOWS I KNOW TOO MUCH! *Flees at Corgi Speed*

*Looks at Yams and Mushi.*

Pretty sure they'd have been pretty nasty to fight in a surface engagement against peer opponents.
sorry
I meant the only things in the 1920's and 30's Japan had that were capable of taking on an American or British battleship and having a 50/50 shot at winning.

Yes and no. Combined Fleet did a study, and the results are surprising. Iowa would have Yamato dead to rights via her fire and evasion, plus mobility, and even SoDak stood an even odds fight.

Yams and Mushi also weren't commissioned until '41 and '42 respectively. So for a while, Nagamon and Mutslug were the only two battle-line units the IJN had capable of going toe-to-toe with USN/RN battleships on a one-to-one basis.

I used to really enjoy this story, and I still enjoy a lot of the side segments. Alaska, for example, remains adorable, however, the Jersey segments have been increasing turning me off on the whole story. I feel that the character has lost something from the early chapters, but can't pinpoint exactly what.

Her assuredness. She never fought a true battleline fight. She sailed as a Flak Wall for the carriers, and wasn't in position to render any assistance off Samar. Now that she's back, she's one of the most powerful ships the world has. And she can't do her job right without someone close to her getting hurt. White, Heerman, and then she and Masashi had their 'moment,' and she hurt Crowning. No matter what she does, someone gets hurt. But worst of all, she's 'alone.' She lost Wisconsin close to Christmas, and she's 20% of the battleships that America has right now. She hasn't even seen her sisters in decades, and she definitely won't see one of them for a long time. At least, that's how I see it.

I'd probably say its the pacing and threat level. The most frightening thing is the unknown, etc. Thing is, there's been enough time to internalize and process this, so its not unknown anymore. Now its just those asshats floating out there making noise, not the end of globalization and a golden era as we know it.

Well, that and she can't accept that something could possibly happen that isn't her fault.

She blamed herself for being "out of position" when Heermann got hurt, even though the only way she could have protected Heermann is by literally teleporting in front of her.

She literally blames herself for everything.

She was more bittersweet, less sour grapes?

It's shit pacing issues. I thought this 'laska stuff would take less time than it ended up taking, so Jersey's kinda been spinning her wheels while I keep her plot thread on hold.
