It's not as if people don't routinely tolerate the presence and action of large crude carrier ships that have volume on par with large chunks of that entire convoy put together.

So I finally caught up again with this fic after last reading it over at SB about...1 or 2 years ago?

Yeah, lotta things changed.

Anyway, here's an album of my visit to Wisconsin earlier this year. A beauty that one.

Couldn't get as much as I wanted since my brother got cranky and we had to leave. Still, I had a blast.

So, the other day I was walking through Alderney Landing here in Dartmouth when I came across a sight that I often saw and even read the plaque for. The propeller for the Icebreaker CCGS John A. Macdonald which is on display there. Yes, it's not a WWII vessel, but it's still sort of neat for the story behind it. It was in 1969 and she was heading through the Northwest Passage to help the SS Manhattan. During the rescue, she broke her starboard propeller, which has been displayed in the park to show the power of sea ice:
The tree is somewhat for scale, but it's big enough that I can comfortably sit on one of the propeller blades no problem.

They had a nice scare in that same order on one of my previous trip to the Pole. Great big chunk of thick multi-year ice shelf tilted at an angle as we were passing it and got itself pulled between a wing propeller and the hull. Nice 'crunk' sound through the hull, followed by alarms and agitated engineers.

Takes a lot to damn near instantly lock a previously spinning ~9kHP motor.

I'm kinda hoping SoDak would get included in the story. And then rivalry between her and Wash occurs. In a friendly way of course.

I'm thinking a Legolas/Gimli kind of vibe.

"That's seven for me, Wash!"
"DAMMIT, SoDak, I got that one and YOU KNOW IT!"
"That's not what it'll say in the papers!"

Except a bit more of the Tatsuta-taunting-Tenryuu feel added for flavor, as seen above...
