Anderson Quest: Killing Vampires and Werewolves and Leprechauns (Hellsing/Bloodborne)

One of the big issues with how Bloodborne is presented is that the Player Character basically has only yes/no prompts throughout the game. So we can't, as a PC, be the emotional support that a lot of these people need. That is not necessarily the case this time.

[x] Head up to check out the Cathedral, then return to Gascoigne's house to retrieve the girls.
[x] Ask Eileen how to broach the issue to the kids.
[x] If the Cathedral looks like a good place, bring the three there, and hope we don't run into Henryk.

Though, given that the girls refer to him as granddad at one point, IIRC, maybe that could be a thing?

Only if she stays sane herself.

Now you've got me worried Bunny. From the bloodborne wiki entry, I was assuming the real Iosefka get's killed/experimented early in canon and all the ugly stuff is attributed to her impostor. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Haven't played Bloodborne, so I don't know how hopeless our situation is. I am getting a feel though.

No, thats correct. The Real Iosefka is gone after the Papa G fight. However, there is a distinct risk that the Real Iosefka also meets the criteria to birth a old one. Maybe not high, but she's on the short list.

Aside from the overwhelmingly greater amount of incense, I'm still not clear on why the chapel is a good place to hole up for the Night of the Hunt.

Gascoigne's home has beds, a kitchen and larder, the girls' books and toys, and some way of dealing with potty breaks (even if it's just chamber pots). Moreover, it's enclosed against the cold, wet night and likely has a fireplace.

The chapel is open to the night air and anyone who wants to just walk right in, it isn't heated, has no apparent stores of food, no beds, no books or toys...

Oh, and there's a fucking huge man-spider thing clinging to the side. Wonder if Anderson can see those yet? He's got at least a function form of Insight, but it doesn't necessarily have to the in the 40 (60?)-ish range.

It's also stocked to the gills with incense to keep the Beasts away, which is the most important thing.

That's important, yes, but so are creature comforts that make waiting in a place bearable.

And again, the place offers no defense against the Church and its minions.

And there's a bigass man-spider thing, child to a bigger man-spider thing that doesn't like people, with brothers and sisters that actively try to kill you. With eye-lasers.

That and it's slightly vulnerable to that one guy who turns into a lightning beast rendition of the Flamelurker from Demon's Souls. Provided we don't send him there like a jackass. But the Fake Iosefka arrived earlier than usual. It's not set in stone.

On the other hand, as soon as the Blood Moon rises, anybody not at Oedon Chapel gets fucked.

Actually Oedon Chapel is protected by Oedon, the formless, shapeless Old One. It's more than just incense keeping evil at bay. Nothing really wants to mess with Oedon- even if it can't affect the world directly, it still seems to be able to influence it through the control of blood.

So...
Would any further defenses we add there disturb the defenses Oedon brings?

Wasn't Fiddle's sister fine despite the Blood Moon? I get the feeling that Fiddle was her elder sister's rock in this typhoon of insanity and blood. When she found out Fiddle died the elder sister just snapped.

Speaking of which where in the world is said eldest sister? Out grocery shopping?

Sounds plausible, but do you have a source you can cite to back this up?

Mostly bits and pieces from the game and the item-lore. A lot of Bloodborne's storytelling comes from reading between the lines, much like Dark Soul's story. The Formless Oedon Rune mentions: 'Human or no, the oozing blood is a medium of the highest grade, and the essence of the formless Great One, Oedon. Both Oedon, and his inadvertent worshipers, surreptitiously seek the precious blood.' The inadvertent worshipers in this case are the Healing Church themselves, who may not necessarily realize- outside perhaps the Choir- that their healing blood is drawn from Oedon's power.

Moreover, one of the women you send to the church- a prostitute named Arianna- eventually becomes pregnant by the child of some Old One, implied to be Oedon itself, as it's a very sudden, unexpected and altogether otherwise impossible thing to occur. Also, from the item description of a certain spoiler, we find that 'Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate, and Oedon, the formless Great One, is no different. To think, it was corrupted blood that began this eldritch liaison.'

It would stand to reason that Oedon Chapel is being monitored on some level by that Old One. The fact that there's a Lesser Amygdala on one side of the chapel seems to suggest that something powerful is keeping tabs on it, too.

Who said Oedon can't do that?

He's called Formless, not powerless. There's a big difference.

I did say directly! He can totally affect the world, but it is through the manipulation of blood that he does so.

But yeah we don't want to set up bible-wards on the church. Amygdala might eat us. Though Anderson doesn't know that!

(Alucard might, if he's watching, notice the presence of one or more Old Ones though)

[X] Discuss with Eileen on how to break it to the children.
[X] Ask her if she's consider accompanying you. The Church did this, so why not make them pay for it?

Man, if I feel this bad after Gascoigne, I don't even want to think about how I'll feel after Vacuous Rom. :(

It all depends on what you believe.

Does an Old One match up against the One True God, who is Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent?

Anderson will tell you, quite explicitly, that the Old One does not and cannot match up to the Lord, our God. I believe that a full strength Ward will probably make the Amygdala fry instantly and maybe shield the people inside from the PaleBlood Moon's influence.

Wait, the plan is to put the girls in the Chapel where Yog-Sogoth is knocking women up with his demon spawn?

This is starting to sound like a horrible plan.

Actually, wouldn't giving out blessed Crosses help out as individual Warding as well? Although I'd guess that for those to function properly, the person holding them has to truly believe. Depending on how the conversation with little Fiddle goes, she might count. Her sister... I don't know. Iosefka is probably close, with what happened and all.

Well, the alternative plan is to leave them at home in Central Yharnam, where people are going to start dying en masse when the Blood Moon rises. That's not really the most brilliant of decisions to make either.

They're safe. They aren't anywhere near the qualifications to birth a old one.

Yeah. You need to have a blood-link to a Great One for them to be able to impregnate you. Iosefka might, but it sounded like she was performing some kind of weird alchemy on normal blood to create her vials. The two girls are probably safe though- we've no sign that they're at all tied to the Great Ones in-game.

A ward set up by us could protect them from the blood moon.

Probably not? I mean, I'd rather not take that risk, especially seeing as how one of our wards can get punched through by an extension of Ebrietas' power.
