Anderson Quest: Killing Vampires and Werewolves and Leprechauns (Hellsing/Bloodborne)

Garden Briareus raises a good point. The Patients in the Research Hall have long since died in the waking world; given that Maria has a slit throat, she may not have a material body to return to the Waking World with.

However, there is a way she can venture out from the waking world and aid Anderson in Righteous Smiting....

[X] "I'll tell Gehrman what ye said, lass. But yer question makes me wonder...what price did you pay to earn this Nightmare?"

[X] "If it's penance you're after here, that's all fine and dandy...but the Church never stopped experimenting after ye left. I saw their work first hand after purging their damned Choir....they were using children."

[X] "The School of Mensis is still huddled in their wee village resort, hiding behind their blasphemous Great Ones. I aim to burn them out, put an end to the use of Old Blood forever. If me and my posse are gonna pull that off without heartbreak..."

[X] Give Lady Maria your Small Resonant Bell, so you can use the Old Hunter Bell to Summon her for Jolly Cooperation Confederation.

[X] "...we could use your strength. It's a damn sight better penance than holing up in a mangy clocktower, no?"
I sure hope the FMA derail is done and fucking dead now.

Thagguy might be joking, but yeah I really don't think Maria even wants to be saved right now. Much better to just leave her an option to help if she actually wants to.

Bragging about killing Great ones would only get a raised eyebrow from her.

Making promises about undoing the patients' tranformations inside the Nightmare is overselling Ebrietas' abilities. She might be a Great One and a good girl, but her abilities are still far from their peak. Remember that she can't even reverse Vicar Amelia's tranformation right now.

I like this, though perhaps (and this is entirely a suggestion, not a request) stating something along the lines of:

"It's not a person's mistakes that matter. It's what they do afterwards."

I only said we'd try. I even admitted it might not work in the vote, but said they'd probably be safer outside the Nightmare anyways.

I still think this a good idea to pursue, after winning Maria's respect and giving her the chance to discuss with Ebrietas.

On a side note: a death-battle with Lady Maria seems to have been averted...but is there the possibility of an enthusiastic sparring match with her? Testing each others skills/resolve (with Maria tutoring Anderson in the Art of Quickening if she's impressed enough)?

Easily done!

[X] Check Maria's teeth for fangs. Just to be sure.
Uh, not sure if you're joking or serious, but FYI eeveryone who voted with your username [] Colesign will have their votes changed to just that one line. And the vote counter will only count the latest vote you had posted.

If you are serious, please reconsider. Your former vote was already quite good. If you want to revert, you could just edit out the X in your newer vote.

A character named Tucker from Full metal alchemist and Full metal alchemist brotherhood.

He was a state alchemist who specialized in making chimeras, using his alchemy to meld living creatures together into new and fantastic forms.

Simply put the process was still in it's experimental stages and the merging of such different physiology tended to cause the creatures extreme amounts of pain and mental anguish.

He tried to make talking chimeras, that is creatures that had the human ability for reason and speech, by using his wife and daughter as test subjects.

His wife was reduced to a mad ball of flesh that we as the audience never saw clearly, but heard scream madly.

His daughter was merged with her beloved pet dog, was left in agony, and had the ability to talk.

She asked to play with the heroes when they found her.

She was about 4 years old at the time if I remember right.
And he never thought of trying a chimera involving a parrot first?
Heck, use one of the smarter parrots like the African gray, or jam a normal parrot and a smart animal like a crow, dolphin, or elephant together and you'd only get a slight downgrade from a human-based homunculus without having to murder someone.

Parrots are probably not going to be easy to come by in Amestris.

Looking back, I'm not sure you guys ever picked up the Small Resonant Bell, but I'm going forward anyway. No sense in forcing a sidetrack.

Update incoming.

Amicable Parting
Damn, where was that knack for the ominous at the beginning? Girl can drop the mic like a pro.

"I'll tell Gehrman what ye said, lass, but yer question makes me wonder. What price did you pay ta earn this Nightmare?"

She purses her lips and stares you down. Eh, worth a shot.

"If it's penance ye're after here," you continue, "that's all fine and dandy, but the Church never stopped experimentin' after ye left. I saw their work firsthand after purgin' their damned Choir. They were usin' children."

The corners of her mouth crawl steadily downwards, though it remains firmly clamped shut. You can almost hear the high-pitched whine of the momentum she gathered with her speech leaking out.

"The School of Mensis is still huddled within their wee little village resort, hidin' behind what blasphemous Great Ones remain. I aim ta burn 'em out, put an end ta the use o' the Old Blood forever. If me and my posse are gonna pull that off without heartbreak..."

You dig down in your sleeves and pull out a bell. Then, frowning, you pull out a few more. You really should have labeled these things. Once you're about 80% sure you have the right one, you present it to Maria. She takes it with a curt nod, turning it over in her hands with rather obvious relief for the distraction.

"...we could use yer strength. It's a damn sight better penance than holin' up in a mangy clocktower, no?"

Okay, that last part may have been slightly unfair. Those giant bells are nice and that clock behind her is fancy as shit. It's mangy in spirit, at least.

Maria places her new acquisition on one of the armrests, face once more set in stone. You turn to go, beckoning Simon to follow, before a thought strikes you. Turning back around to face her, you look closely at her jaw.

"Would ye mind openin' yer mouth for a sec?"

"I beg your pardon?"

"That was perfect, thanks. Ye're clean, no fangs or nothin'." Hereditary vampirism crisis averted.

"You are an incredibly strange man, Mister..."

"Alexander Anderson. He's Simon."

"Charmed."

"Well then," she says, sinking her cheek into her knuckles with regained calm, "I wish you the best of luck on your journey."

"Same ta you. Don't be afraid ta answer if ye hear my bell; we'll help ye find yer worth in the wakin' world."

You and Simon step back into the warped garden without further comment. The heavy doors creak shut of their own accord, leaving the two of you alone on the sunshine.

"Great backup there," you say.

"I was nodding along. What else did you expect me to do? You had the situation under control, had a good rapport going with her. Plus, she caught my arrow. Not even Ludwig ever pulled that off."

"Betcha I could do it."

"Not taking that bet. Not because I think you'd win, but because I'd rather not spend hours resharpening my arrowheads after digging them out of your torso."

"Whatever lets ye sleep at night. Anyway, were ye at least standin' solemnly while I was talkin'?"

"Damn solemnly."

"Good man."
