Anderson Quest: Killing Vampires and Werewolves and Leprechauns (Hellsing/Bloodborne)

God damn it guys, UPGRADE OUR FREAKING WEAPON ALREADY!

[X] Use Bloodstone shards to reinforce your Ironic Club.
[X] Return to the Powder Kegs
[X] Attempt to communicate with anyone you find.
-[X] Unless it looks beasty. In that case, kill it dead.
-[X] If and/or when communication fails, kill it dead and move on.
-[X] Proselytizing all the way, because it's TIME TO SPREAD THE WORD OF CHRIST!
--[X] Also laser beams.
But we don't have an Ironic Club

We have a Club of Righteousness

EDIT: And his reluctance was back when he had little idea what the hell was going on in this world. He's a lot more sure of things now.
I think it was going him nope to 'heathen blood magic (blood gems)" actually. And the shards haven't come up since Gehrman explaining them (where we only had one), gems and coldblood (or I just missed it).

How many bloodstone shards and gems are in Anderson's sleeves right now?
We don't exactly have an inventory list...

Been meaning to address this for a while, but I am bad at things.

I'd planned to include upgrades in the beginning, hence why I had Anderson pick up the blood stones and gems in the early going. As the quest went along, however, I realized that:

A. The gems are blood magic, which is like heathen 101. The difference with the club is that the process that brought it into being was highly-advanced smithing rather than blood magic; it's chunks of alien lashed together.
B. Anderson probably isn't going to pay enough attention to dead mooks and random hidden corners to pick up that many.
C. I don't believe I could come up with an adequate system to consistently apply the upgrades to combat, since my method of choosing percentages isn't exactly scientific. Anderson's such a physical powerhouse that against most things, a slight increase in cutting power isn't going to make a difference. It's about landing the hit to begin with.

In short, they're a complication that, in my opinion, would add a layer of complexity without improving the quest. I am open to counterarguments, but for the moment, I don't intend to have game-style upgrading. If you find more bits of baddie or scenery that you want to bolt onto a stick, though, go nuts.

I apologize for waiting until a disagreement arose to clarify.

My amazing counterargument is that if we make suitably awesome bits of stuff bolted on a stick to improve our % chance to succeed with bad plans, because we made something awesome and extra heathen smitey. Afterall what better (aka funnier/ironic) way to smite heathens than with other heathens.

Speaking personally if a bad battle plan came up I'd eviscerate it long before such a marginal increase would become remotely relevant

Because good irony should not be wasted on poor execution:V

If someone comes up with an explanation to get Blood Gem Upgrades to be a thing, might I suggest we wait until we get the Moonlight Blade? It is literally a Holy weapon, and we will have put Ludwig to rest, allowing us to carry a properly paladinly weapon.

Also, swordbeams.

Do remember, it's a holy blade by the standards of a church of heathens. Sure, Ludwig was probably a swell dude, and Anderson will acknowledge that, but he's still under the influence of a magical sword he calls his 'mentor'

Look at the lore quotes regarding it, as well as the way Ludwig refers to it.

The Holy Moonlight Sword is synonymous with Ludwig, the Holy Blade, but few have ever set eyes on the great blade, and whatever guidance it has to offer, it seems to be of a very private, elusive sort."

If anything the description seems to hint that its the exact opposite. Which holds true to what we see of it and Ludwig. It doesn't induce madness, it brings you back from it.
