what are the rangdans?
Apparently an alien race who were so vicious and had so much power that it took several Naval Fleets and multiple Space Marine Legions combined to defeat them. According to the Lexicanum the Rangdan Xenocides were one of the bloodiest conflicts in the history of humankind, second to only the Horus Heresy.

Well if Horus was cool with Sanguinius I don't see why he would be jealous of us.

In order of Primarchs:

Lion El'Johnson - I could see the two being close as they are both the top of their fields and the two would appreciate having someone who can keep up to their levels.

Fulgrim - Go either way. I can see him becoming jealous of us or being good friends with us since we both tend to be very good at what we do and have a relative lack of space marines. Could also be friends by proxy if we are close to Kurze.

Perturabo - Go either way. Perturabo would probably be severely jealous of us just like he was jealous of Rogal Dorn. If we can get to him early we can empathize with his lack of challenge, can show him that yes, we can still have diplomacy and show him our Bastion can be his surrogate Olympia. Or he just hates us for having shit he doesn't and trys to tear down everything we worked for.

Jaghatai Khan - Pretty sure distant. We might get close by talking to him about observations but perception is kind of our dumb stat so...
There's also the possibility of us being close by close to Magnus.

Leman Russ - Likely hostile/indifferent. Our personalities are completely different and being close to Magnus = not likely to get close to Leman. In our current timeline we do meet him young so we have a very good chance of being close to him. If not friendly to psykers at least tolerant of us and our use of Runes.

Rogal Dorn - Courteous. We got things he wants. He has skills we want. It's a business relationship through and through.

Konrad Kurze - Close. muh headcanon demands that we find him asap and give him close attention and hugs. We can stop the nightmares, our Legions might work well together and if we can make it work we'll have a really, really good beatstick.

Ferrus Manus - Distant. We might get close by proxy if we were to be friends with Fulgrim.

Angron - Depends. If we can get to him soon enough we can mitigate the worst of the effects if not prevent him from ever getting brain nailed. If we don't get much time to get close he'll probably just see us like he did Guilliman and try to kill us.

Roboute Guilliman - I can see us being good friends. We're the best empire builders in the family and could find great fun debating each other on our techniques of uplifting humanity.

Mortarian - Hates us. We're clean, prosperous, have a happy family, dgaf about his "survival of the fittest", consorts with xenos and we're a psyker. This was never gonna work out.

Magnus - Besties. He does magic, we do magic, it's perfect.

Lorgar - Would have trouble with the debates. We could be close but he might also see us as holy Sister to the God Emperor.

Vulkan - We're both nice and we forge stuff. We'll go splendidly.

Corvus Corax - Possible. We might not have much in common but we could work pretty well together depending on how we build our Legion.

And that's exactly why I don't believe the QM would unleash something like the Rangdan anytime soon. Especially with 9 Waaghs on the horizon. That type of encounter is way too op at this stage of the game and would have been something even the Emperor atm probably couldn't handle.

Haha love that analysis.

There was also the possibility that the Emperor used Void Dragon as a Pokemon for that conflict too

Yeah, just casually use a C'Tan, one of the stronger ones, it a fight. Sometimes I forget how steep this settings power curve is.

This is why I was giving the numbers that we need to have. Otherwise we are doomed, we also need to supertech everything if that happens. As in, " Get on par with the Necrons" super tech to make it happen without all those bodies.

Well, in a hundred years, with population restriction repealed so hard they swung back around to incentives to have more children, and the ridiculous amount of people that can be fit per planet thanks to the arcologies, you'll probably manage those numbers.

Wow that's chump time! A lot of the Primarchs participated in the Great Crusade for over 300 years before the Horus Heresy began so were probably going to be even larger then the Imperium was in canon in terms of both number of worlds and population! Plus none of this is counting the extra fifty years were going to have on top of that three hundred because the Emperor still has to find all the Primarchs.

Here is how we deal with the Rangdan. Does anyone have any idea what region of space they are in? Like, where were they first encountered?

If so, here's what we do, we take that location, and make sure we don't expand too far in the direction, instead focusing on literally every other direction. This leaves the Rangdan to be discovered by the Great Crusade at a roughly similar time with roughly the same amount of troops and Primarchs and resources as beat them last time, in addition to all of the stuff we are bringing to the table.

Ideally. We can only hope.

Why did you skip Sanguinius and Alpha/Omega twins?

Well, I don't think we have 300 years until Rangdan Xenocides.
We probably have at best 150-200 years from the canon start of the Great Crusade to deal with them. Thankfully the galaxy is still covered in Warp storms impeding travel for other species/civilizations. At worst we have less than a century before they escalate too far. Then again, Chaos could fuck with us by unshackling the Rangdan early by removing the Warp storms that would otherwise impede them.

Huh...the Rangdan vs the Beast? Sounds epic!

At least we have a head start due to how early we got out of the Warp and built up our civs power base.

Also the Rangdan were in Northern Obscures/Ultimate I think.

Eather way, we need to accelerate our time table. We need more science happening, more kicking chaos ass, and a whole lot more reclaiming planets, then if possible, create a space marine legion to help out with everything else.

That's some very nice metagaming you have there.

Be a shame if sssssomething were to happen to it...

[X] Tag [Medicine: Surgery, Medicine: Narcotics, Medicine: First-Aid]

[X] Education: Advanced: 60 Perk. Multi-Doctorate. You have the kind of intellect and knowledge that the majority of people simply can't follow your conversation unless you intentionally alter your vocabulary to compensate. +700 to all Checks. Must have Intellectual.

[X] Education: Seer: 80 Perk. Esoteric Skillset. Your knack is developing into a full-fledged set of techniques for creating things from/using Warp energy, and discovering new ways to do so. +1600 to Psyker Checks. Requires Esoteric Knack.

[X] Psyker: Sorcery: 40 Perk. Omni-Manipulation II. While enough to make you an Omnimancer by itself, that is only a technically. +1200 to Combat, Tactics, Medicine, Electronics, Invention, and Explosives Checks. Requires Omni-Manipulation.

[X] Psyker: Sorcery: 60 Perk. Omni-Manipulation III. You are just barely a real Omnimancer. +1400 to Combat, Tactics, Medicine, Electronics, Invention, and Explosives Checks. Requires Requires Omni-Manipulation II.

[X] Psyker: Sorcery: 80 Perk. Omni-Manipulation IV. You've nearly reached the skill level of the absolute peak of known Omnimancers, which is generally about the level most psykers achieve in the field they focus on. +1600 to Combat, Tactics, Medicine, Electronics, Invention, and Explosives Checks. Requires Requires Omni-Manipulation III.

[X] Level 50 Perk. Is That All? I've literally done that in my sleep. -250 to difficulty of all Checks. +5 Minor Actions.

[X] Invention: Necessity: 80 Perk. Improvised Workshop. You can quickly set up a workshop, using your psyker powers to hash something together from your surrounding, or improve upon them. Workshop always considered one grade above it's actual level.

[X] Save 12 Perks.

Your recent forays into the use of the Warp and the academic path had provided a vast boost to your capabilities, which should prove very useful for The Bastion's first Mega-Project. Some of the most senior tech-priests dimly recall references to such in the more intact archives on the activities of the Ancients, though mostly of the type you plan on building. You also plan on looking into Ork biology as you cleanse Thernus of Orks, though the majority are not very powerful specimens compared to what you're likely to encounter in space-faring hordes, you should at least be able to make general strides in the understanding or Orkish biology.

Major Actions (14 + 1[skill all 100] + 3[eduAdv all 50] = x18)

[/] Ship Building. Even with the Waagh destroyed and your recent influx of resources, you could always use more ships. Of course, you have an entire rogue planet to rip material out of, and though there's a limit to how much material is there, there's enough for a huge fleet. Chance of Success: 100%. This action may be taken up to 115 times. Will build one Battleship, or 5 Cruisers almost fully, or 10 Escorts fully. The former takes 2 years to complete after the action is taken. Currently 6/115 have been used. 8 will be taken for free due to Mining Ships. All Dreadnought berths currently full. Cruiser berths currently full. Escort berths empty, but can be constructed by you wholesale. Due to allied berths, 16 sets of berths are now available for each category.

With the large number of new berths you've gained access to, and your improved psychic powers, you manage to almost completely finish off the hulls crafted from the wrecks of Ork 'ships' (for lack of a better word) from the battle over Therog. They should prove helpful in the fights a decade down the line, possibly sooner if the Orks were encountered early because of exploration.

7/15 Dreadnoughts completed. Remaining 8 in progress, additional 8 from Mining Ships also in progress, for 16 total.

80/90 Cruisers done.

160 Escorts built wholesale.

AN: With your recent advances in psykerness, and the knowledge of an incoming Ork fleet, you'll be making as many Escorts as you have berths for, provided you can get the resources to build them and the people to man them.

New Fleet Totals:
Fleet Status: 8 Dreadnoughts. 105 Cruisers. 285 Escorts.
Allied Ships available: 10 Dreadnoughts. 270 Cruisers. 725 Escorts.

[X] [Major Action] Cleansing Thernus of Orks. You could cleanse Thernus of Orks entirely if you wished, though they aren't really a major threat at this point. They serve more as live-fire exercises than anything else right now. Psyker: Manipulation, Education: General, Medicine: Narcotics. Reward: Orks removed from Thernus. Can do something similar for every world with Orks once they're beaten down to steam-power or lower. (x1)

As Thernus' Ork population was more an annoyance than anything else at this point, and the Webway was doing a decent job of 'blooding' soldiers from The Bastion, you saw little reason to continue tolerating the Orks on Thernus.

Power Check: 5 Checks Passed.

Control Check: 4 Checks Passed.

Learning Check: 3 Checks Passed. -600 to Check difficulty.

Combined Check: Psyker: Manipulation + Sorcery: 290+10525(Psyker bonuses)+ Education: General + Advanced: 290+ 3735(Education bonuses) + Medicine: Narcotics: 105+ 13200(Medicine bonuses)= 28145. 9400 Check Passed. 14400 Check Passed. 19400 Check Passed. 24400 Check Passed.

3180/6400 to Level 55. Currently possess 12 Perk points.

With your powers, knowledge of biology, and knowledge of poison, you were able to direct the PDF to every Ork spawning area, and either have them burn it, or burn it out yourself, while also killing off almost every adult, in such a way that their spores wouldn't survive (generally meaning flames or potent psyker powers), not when they've been reduced so much. In fact, you actually manage to learn quite a bit about the Orks' biology and use the cadavers provided in your dedicated study, so that you don't have to kill the 100 Orks you collected specifically for the study.

Reward: Thernus cleared of Orks. Check will be lowered in future thanks to data collected here, making it easier to accomplish at higher levels of Waagh energy. One-time +1500 to Ork biology study.

[X] [Major Action] Looking For Your Brothers. As your father suggested, you should work to find your brothers. While they don't seem to be the beacons in the Warp you are, you believe you could find them if you really tried. Of course, having some backup would be helpful. Chance of Success: 5%(35 after bonuses. Additional +50% for initial roll= 85%). Reward: Contact with fellow Primarchs. (x2)

Primarch Search Roll: 83+50= 133. Critical Success!

Primarch Search Critical Roll: 79+33= 112. Critical Success!

Primarch Search Critical Roll: 39. Failure.

Primarch Search Roll 2: 14. Failure.

Rolling for Primarchs found: 10. Rogal Found!

Rolling for Primarchs found: 11. Leman Found!

You found 2 of the brothers within range that you had yet to contact, your extra effort paying off. Funnily enough, both of your brothers had ended up on Ice Worlds this time, though the fact that they weren't active psykers made contact a bit more difficult to establish, it was still reasonably easy to accomplish.

Rogal Dorn of the House Dorn had never been one for metaphors. Partially due to a general lack of ability to understand them, and partially because he felt the obvious and present should be prioritized over the subtle and abstract. Mostly because the subtle and abstract would often go out of it's way to avoid a direct confrontation until you took out the more aggressive entity it was using as cover, either out of cunning or cowardice, though the two were not mutually exclusive.

The solution was either to force the enemy to come to you, by building an impressive defensive position, which no competent military commander would leave behind their lines, or to attack with such aggression that both the direct and subtle enemies were erased. Personally, he preferred the former. Fewer friendly casualties. There was a certain satisfaction to going out and ripping apart the enemy's forces, but the large number of dead allies would always leave one with a bitter feeling.

The superior kill-ratio from being the defender (assuming proper fortifications) was also of great strategic value. Allies that died now could not fight later, and the same was true of the enemy. This might seem obvious, but many would, in the heat of the moment, sacrifice this advantage for personal satisfaction. At least, that's what the patriarch of the House said. Rogal himself hadn't seen nearly as many battles, but what he'd seen suggested this was the case.

Something he had most definitely not expected was to hear a woman's voice in his head. 'Hello? Brother? I haven't contacted someone who wasn't an active psyker from this far before, so I'm not sure how well you can hear me.' she said.

"I can hear you." he answered aloud, to some odd looks from some of the nearby staff.

'Er, this is a telepathic conversation. Just talk in your head and I'll hear you just fine, though not anything you weren't planning to let me hear.' she explained. 'Anyway, my name is Serras Salnus. I'm you sister, sort of. It's a bit more complicated than that, but we have the same father.'

'Rogal Dorn. Do we have different mothers then?' he asked bluntly.

'...I'm not sure if 'mother' is the right term, but that's probably the closest to the actual explanation I can give without spending the next hour answering different questions that I myself may not know the exact answers to.' Serras replied after a moment's thought.

'I will accept that for now. What was your reason for contacting me?' Rogal asked.

'Well, Father's original plan was for us to serve as his generals in restoring humanity to it's former glory, uniting the scattered remnants. However, a mishap that occurred during our creation scattered us across the galaxy, leaving us to land on different planets. Using what was left of the DNA of the Primarchs (us) he's created potent warriors by implanting it in regular humans, the Thunder Warriors, and more recently the somewhat weaker but far more stable Space Marines.

Currently, he's occupied with reuniting Sol, but he'd like for us to start on that. Magnus and I are already working on it, but we can use all the help we can get. My job is to contact you and help you out with research, mostly because that's my strong point and my homeworld is far more peaceful than Magnus', or yours from what I'm able to tell, so I can afford to devote more time to it.' she explained.

'I see. I am more than willing to assist.' Rogal nodded.

He received the impression of a blink. 'Uh, that was easier than I expected. I thought convincing you was going to take longer.'

'I believe you are telling the truth, and even if you were not, you have not asked me to do anything I was not intending to do beforehand.' Rogal replied.

'Well, in that case, there are some things you ought to have by default. Hold out your hands for a second.'

He did so, and a set of 17 swirls of what appeared to Warp energy appeared above his hands for a split second before resolving into crystals of varying color and shape. The seventeenth felt different from the others. He'd seen the psykers working with their powers before, but this was a new one.

'Psykers are something of a mixed blessing. On the one hand, swift FTL would be impossible without psykers, and we are some of the best individuals for dealing with Warp Horrors and people they've corrupted. On the other hand, we're also far more vulnerable to corruption in the first place, to say nothing of the risks involved in drawing deeply from the Warp. These crystals, and a few pieces of psy-tech I've developed, can be used to create talismans that greatly boost the safety of psykery, as well as everything from the performance of warriors, the strength of buildings and the productivity of factories. However, they require a psyker to make them, and their true potential requires they be used to make runes, which fulfill the same effects as the crystals they were made with, but are immobile on their own.' She followed with a run-down of the various types of crystal.

'The seventeenth crystal is Orichalcix, a human-specific material which, while only as strong as steel, visibly regenerates damage, and can even grow without direct supervision from a psyker. Though that certainly helps.' Serras explained.

'Ah, I see. They make psykers safer and more useful, which makes it easier for them to make more of these crystals, which makes psykery safer, and so on.'

'Yes, grab something to write on, and I can put instructions for how to do so on paper. I would have done it with Magnus, but I wasn't as experienced with long-distance use of my powers and exhausted myself before I had the chance.'

Rogal requested some parchment from a servant, who swiftly complied. Sure enough, Serras was able to write down simple instructions in the local dialect of Gothic, mostly from sampling Rogal's vocabulary. It was a bit clipped and blunt compared to how Serras usually wrote, but as long as it worked.

'Okay, that should be of great help in making psykers worth it from a cost-benefit standpoint. Were there any technologies you might need urgently? I can give you the blueprints for a great deal of things, as well as the procedures for making them, though I'll need to know what kind of facilities you have available.' she asked.

'Medicine, material sciences, communications, and any and all military technology, such as vehicles, weapons and armor.' Rogal responded, before explaining the current state of their forges and workforce.

'Nothing to directly improve the general living conditions of people?' Serras asked, though she started to write the instructions and schematics down, as Rogal asked for more parchment.

'No. The harsh conditions of Inwit have made us strong. Taking that away from us is not something any of us will stand for, even indirectly. Making us better able to deal with those conditions is one thing, especially where superior defenses are concerned. Removing those conditions as a factor altogether is another.' Rogal responded.

'Well, if that's your choice, and you're sure the others will agree, then I won't force it on you. Besides, you'll need to unite Inwit before leaving to conquer other places, and it's not like I can't tell you later if you change your mind.' Serras agreed with only moderate reluctance.

'Yes. Thank you for respecting my decision.' Rogal said as the schematics and procedures were written down. By this time, the desk was becoming somewhat crowded.

'Well, I should be going once I've gotten these written down. I still want to at least try and find one of the others, and I'm sure you have things to take care of. I expect you'll be busy with these for a while.'

'Yes.' Rogal nodded, as the third stack finished. Serras was a very fast writer, apparently even if she was not physically present. It seemed that never having written in Inwit's written language, which was notably different from it's spoken language, before was little in the way of a barrier.

'So, how's your personal life, while I'm writing. Don't worry, I can multitask.'

'I have been adopted into the House Dorn, one of the premier members of the ruling class. The patriarch of the house is a grandfatherly figure to me, and has taught me much.' Rogal summated.

'Huh, that's kind of like what happened to me. I was adopted by the planetary governor and his wife. I'm probably really lucky to have ended up on a planet that was already unified like I did, considering the relative conditions you and Magnus have to deal with on your planets. I mean, both of the brothers I've met so far, as well as Father, are dealing with planets that are disunified, often violently so.' Serras muttered over the link as the writing began to wind down.

'Hm, that does sound a bit like what happened to me. Though that does beget a thought: If you were the luckiest of our number you've yet encountered, then it is likely at least one of us has ended up on a world hostile towards them.'

'Hence the relative urgency of finding and contacting you guys.' Serras responded as the scratching stopped.

'In that case, I won't keep you.' Rogal saw no need to continue the conversation right then, when they could do it later, preferably after he'd shown these to the patriarch and they could begin work with them.

'I'll talk to you again soon' Serras cut the link.

"Now then, I should have one of the servants fetch grandfather while I begin sorting through these." Rogal commented. While each pile was of a specific category he'd requested, he'd need to sort out the relative costs and benefits, as well as the time required to implement the various technologies and techniques recorded here. Grandfather would know better than himself in that regard.

*** Leman Russ ***

Leman had recently mastered Low Gothic when he heard the voice. He paused in his practice with his axe, as a woman's voice asked 'Hello there, Brother. What's your name?'

'Who is this?' he directed his thoughts at the voice in his head. He'd heard the Rune Priests talk about having problems with this on occasion, though they had them far more rarely than psykers. You had to force such beings out with extreme prejudice. Unfortunately, Russ could tell, in much the same way he knew the relative strength of the beasts he'd hunted, that he'd lose such a contest if he forced it, so he'd have to wait for it to lower it's guard. That could be a problem though, this one was crafty enough to make it's presence reassuring, rather than disturbing. He couldn't be sure that a lowered guard was actually lowered.

'I'm Serras Salnus. I'm your sister. Our father is the Emperor of Mankind. His goal is to unite humanity once more and reassert our dominance of the galaxy and… you don't know what that is, do you?' This 'Serras' paused, a note of disbelief in her voice.

Emperor? There were only kings on Fenris. And what in the wolfin' Warp was a 'galaxy' supposed to be? Either this was a very confused Warp xenos, or she might actually be telling the truth. Supposedly, these sorts of beings tended to offer power, or to fulfill some kind of desire, for some 'small' price, which tended to culminate in being so deeply drawn in that you didn't own your own soul any more when they came to collect. Russ doubted one would concoct a story with this many things to clue him in to it's offness not a minute in.

'Okay, you know the sun? And you know cities? A galaxy is like that, but for stars. Father is on Terra, the birthplace of humanity, right now, fixing it up. By which I mean he's leading an army to conquer it and later the rest of Sol, which is the name for that particular sun and the planets that orbit, er, go around it. Wow, I didn't expect to come across a brother in shape this good on a planet that hadn't reinvented the steam engine.' Serras explained, haltingly.

He felt vaguely insulted at the comment about Fenris, but Russ was somewhat curious where this tale went. 'Why should I believe anything a voice in my head says? Ya can't prove anything I didn't already know, and ya could have found out anything I already knew by rummaging through my mind while we were talking.' Russ responded, He wasn't that curious though.

'No, I could not have rummaged through your head to find that sort of thing out. Trust me, you'd have noticed. I just sensed your confusion a second ago. Emotions are harder to guard than information over a telepathic link. As for the first thing, well, maybe I can help you out as a show of good faith?' As Russ opened his mouth to reply, she interrupted. 'No, this isn't some kind of trick to get your soul, I hate Warp Horrors with a burning passion.' Now that, Russ found he believed. The vitriol in her voice was something you couldn't fake. Not that well.

'Let's say I believe ya. What could you offer me? If you give me some dribble about 'unlimited power' I'm going to find a way to punch you in the wolfin' face.' He offered.

'Well, I have technology and the general knowledge of how to maintain it, for one thing, and concept crystals and Runes.' Serras countered.

He was pretty sure Serras was telling the truth at this point, as Warp xenos didn't offer you something you already had, but just to be safe: 'What do ya mean by Runes?'

'Well, after a nasty encounter with some very nasty things that even Daemons considered unbelievably horrible, I came across the crystallized form of various concepts, starting with Fire, Ice, and Electricity, before branching out to Water, Earth, Wind, Metal, Purity, Order, Navigation, Communication, Space, Time, Magnetism, Detection, Concealment, Organization, Wisdom, Willpower, Speed, Defense, Penetration, and Durability. Runes use the crystal to create a pattern that manipulates the Warp to create a stronger version of the effect, at the cost of immobility. You can use them for pretty much anything in the right combinations, and I frequently make new ones, or upgrade the old ones.' she explained.

Now that was something Russ was familiar with, well sort of. A lot of those types were unfamiliar to him. Though the Rune Priests had been acting oddly lately. Apparently, they'd been having major breakthroughs in their craft recently. It would be one thing if it was a once-a-generation genius, but they found the walls that had previously barred their passage to greater heights of runecraft abruptly gone, almost demolished.

'Really, well, since I'm not a Rune Priest, how would I manage to-' he cut off at the impression of amusement, before 17 swirls of Warp energy coalesced into crystals.

'I forgot to mention Orichalcix. How does a building material that's as strong as steel, er, stronger than iron, and visibly heals itself if something manages to cause it damage, sound? Of course, you need psykers to make it, but any psyker can make it if they work at it, and it's pretty easy to grow further once you manage to get some in place.' Serras explained as the crystals shining slightly, gently floating to the ground before the glow winked out.

'Stronger than iron?' Leman asked. Now she had his attention. The Iron Priests were the only ones who knew how to work such materials. Only kings had access to the rare metals stronger than iron, and iron weapons were something that few carried outside the chosen heirs of a family line. Leman himself was using a bronze axe, at least for now.

'Yep, and if you really don't want to use the psyker-based material, though I highly recommend it, I'm perfectly willing to tell you how to make the regular physical metals, since I was going to do that anyway. Er, you probably don't have parchment laying around, considering the apparent tech-level, so I'm going to borrow that wall to your left.' Serras said.

Leman turned his attention to said wall to witness a set of very small knives of purple crystal form and begin writing in Low Gothic at a rapid pace. 'I think the Iron Priests are going to feel very conflicted.' Russ commented, somewhat amused.

'Iron-? Oh, must be a local version of the Mechanicus. Should probably try and find a way for them to get back into contact with Mars, since I doubt even the most conservative of the tech-priests would be okay with a section of their fellows being pre-Industrial. If nothing else, I think we can agree on wanting… Fenris united. After that, Father's plan is to reunite humanity, so starting up a stellar empire of your own would be great.' Serras responded, sounding a bit distracted.

'I'm willing to do that, but why should I submit to my 'father' instead of following my own path?' Russ asked, somewhat .

'Well besides the fact that he's got a goal I don't see any problem with, and the other 2 brothers I've met thus far have agreed to, and the fact that you were literally born for the purpose of restoring the human race to its former glory, which will be more difficult without Father's, and likely most of the rest of us, aid, he's smarter, stronger, tougher, and faster than you. He's also in the moral right as far as I can see.' Serras explained bluntly. 'Ahem, sorry, your passive-aggressive hostility was getting to me.'

Leman considered that. 'Well, I suppose I can at least wait until I see him myself before passing judgement. It'll take a while to unite Fenris and put all this technology into use anyway.'

'Great! Now, what techs did you want in particular, I'm giving you materials science and general knowledge, as well as psyker-related stuff regardless, and starship-tech is going to be a while off, but pretty much everything below that is available if you want it.'

Russ considered for a few minutes. Accepting the knowledge offered seemed unlikely to sell off his soul, since nothing, not even a favor had been demanded in return, so he felt like he could trust her. 'Everything, at least up to starships, especially arms, armor, and things that improve the people's lot.' he eventually said, to renewed scratching.

'Oh, not concerned about the people getting soft? I only ask because Rogal gave me that explanation when I asked him why he wasn't going straight for things to improve the lot of his people, and I don't want you to change your mind later.'

'As long as we maintain our brotherhood and sense of duty, we should be fine.' Russ nodded reflexively, before remembering the context of the conversation. Telepathy was aggravating.

'Good enough for me. Any questions while I write?' she asked.

Russ thought it over for all of a second. 'No.'

'Then I'll take my leave as soon as I've finished.' Sure enough, a few minutes later, he heard 'See you another time Brother.' and her presence was gone. Leman left to find the king or one of his advisors who would know how to contact the Rune Priests and Iron Priests, who would both want to see this. They had a bit of a rivalry, but serving the needs of the people of Fenris was something they agreed on, and this would help a great deal with that.'

Jump-start Fenrisian technological advancement, and thus Russ' eventual dominion of Fenris. +30 to Combat skills, 40 for Ranged.

Combat: Warrior: 30. You are very far beyond the peak of humankind's combat ability when fighting hand-to-hand, but any further advancement will require you train on your own, partially because no one can teach you anything, and partially because you can't progress while holding back, and they'd die if you went all-out. Combat Checks reduced even more in difficulty.

Combat: Warrior: 40. You are nearing a new tier of combat ability, beyond even what Grandmaster's achieve. Combat Checks reduced further still in difficulty.

Combat: Warrior: 50. You are at a new tier of combat ability, beyond even what Grandmaster's achieve. Combat Checks reduced somewhat in difficulty.

Combat: Warrior: 60. You are beyond a new tier of combat ability, beyond even what Grandmaster's achieve. Combat Checks reduced greatly in difficulty.

Combat: Ranged: 120. You are beyond what would usually be considered the pinnacle of regular human ranged combat, shooting from ludicrously unlikely angles and deflecting bullets off of ridiculously improbable objects. Combat Checks reduced immensely in difficulty due to greater understanding of fire-arms. Reduces difficulty of sniping targets further still. Minor bonus to avoiding assassination and hidden strikes.

Combat: Ranged: 130. You are well beyond what would usually be considered the pinnacle of regular human ranged combat, shooting from ludicrously unlikely angles and deflecting bullets off of ridiculously improbable objects. Combat Checks reduced ridiculously in difficulty due to greater understanding of fire-arms. Reduces difficulty of sniping targets hugely. Small bonus to avoiding assassination and hidden strikes.

AN: For Rogal, hey, the Black Templars had to come from somewhere. Also, yes, you're sharing your research with Magnus, and Emps to a degree. Mostly just what they ask for, which isn't a lot in Emps' case. Now that your psykerness has advanced enough to make it pretty secure, at least.

As for Leman, he was a bit more cordial than one might expect towards his visitor because he could tell this wasn't a fight he could win without taking her completely by surprise. He could certainly hurt her pretty badly because of the spreading out from distance, with a little luck, but he seriously doubts he could win without getting a crippling alpha strike in first. This hostility was something Serras could pretty clearly detect, and acting cordial towards someone coiled to snap at you like a spring-loaded crossbow is very grating. Leman doesn't like psykers, but in this case, having someone in your head is understandably unnerving.

Also, yes, the Fenrisian machine cult now has instructions for a trans-mat, but it's going to take a while before they get their tech up to par with the building specs. Serras set up multiple parallel writings because she had a lot more 'ground' to cover.

[X] [Major Action] Stellar Bellows. A Mega-project, which involves constructing a ring around a star, to extract material from said star. Most of it will be hydrogen, but a lot of it will be higher elements, and with your fusion plants, it's possible to create higher elements without too much trouble. However, it is very likely to become a target for subversive elements. As such, it's construction will not be started without your direct supervision. Requires at least 1 Major Action to begin. An additional 4 may be used to shave the time of construction down from 5 years to 3 years, as you construct the skeleton more or less wholesale. (x5)

The same… eccentric man who'd proposed the original arcology design was given rather more in the way of attention from the authorities and official scientific bodies when he proposed this project. Though detractors pointed out the sheer scale, a thorough study cleared the project as possible. However, to make it at all viable as something that could be done in the relative short-term, you'd have to at least start construction of the frame, or else it would have to be towed into place piece by piece.

Considering the size of the structure, much of the framework is made of adamantium. The structure's purpose was harvesting material from the star via toroidal magnetic fields generated from particle accelerators (on the order of a billion) looping streams of charged particles around it, before being temporarily turned off, which would lead to discharges at the poles of the star, which would be captured and, after being sufficiently cooled, processed into its component elements. These eruptions will not harm the star, and in fact, the process will remove impurities and will, if anything, extend the stars life.

Naturally, this is likely to be a target for Chaos, simply by virtue of the excessive amount of resources it will produce, so a part of your efforts are spent in pre-emptively smothering the Stellar Bellows in Order and Purity Crystals, where Healing, Preservation, Defense, and Durability Crystals are not placed. Granted, more will be needed as the structure is built, but since the majority of the physical area taken up by the structure has been built, and you've taken care of the stones necessary, regular psykers can take care of the rest of that particular point of the project. Though you have a few defense batteries constructed at regular intervals around the bellows, as well as a small fleet watching it at all times, just in case someone tries the stealthy approach of exiting the Warp far from the sysem and approaching the bellows at sub-light speeds, before charging up all at once and blasting it.

Tech-priests from across the sector will be gathering here to oversee the particle accelerators' installation and to maintain them afterward. While you'd more or less need to be outright attempting to cause the star's destabilization with the current setup and all the safeguards in place, the tech-priests do not wish to take chances, and you don't see any reason to protest. Besides, they're probably going to get a lot of the material that is 'mined' as your shipyards simply cannot build ships fast enough to use the kind of resources the bellows would produce, necessitating the carting off of resources to the industrial centers of the sector, so you see no reason to needlessly antagonize them.

Some of the more established ones would quite probably begin production of their own bellows around their own stars. While it might be more efficient to place them all around Thernus' sun to take advantage of their elder being right there, it was usually a bad idea to place all of one's eggs in a single basket. That way an artificially-caused nova or supernova couldn't wipe out the sector's production. Plus, they'd already sent Mars the design, they were just waiting to make sure nothing would go horribly wrong with the first. Serras herself was waiting on telling her distant family members until then as well.

With your efforts allowing for the basic frame to be made almost wholecloth, the more delicate work could begin immediately, and within a few years, an absurd amount of material could be harvested. It should be more than enough to counter all but the largest fleets imaginable, provided the Orks weren't using entire moons as ships, but that would be insane even by their standards.

Reward: Frame for Stellar Bellows completed. Structure as a whole completed in 3 Turns.

AN: Hey, the tech-priests know a good idea when they see it. Even the most conservative tech-priest is willing to ignore the innovation thing, simply because of how incredibly useful this thing is. While the maximum number of bellows around a single star could supply a sector by itself, it would also be a ridiculously obvious target. Also, there's something to be said for having those kinds of resources available in-system for the tech-priests.

[X] [Major Action] Webway Patrol. While elite soldier are being sent in to help the Eldar, contingents of regular soldiers should both help them get real experience, and help clear the Webway. Accelerates timeline for gaining further access to Webway. May be taken up to 10 times. (x10)

The Webway is and odd place. It almost resembles a calmer version of the Warp in the largest tunnels, resembling a blue-white sea. In the smaller tunnels, the Wraithbone walls are clearly visible, and a Knight-Titan would barely fit in the smallest tunnels that are meant to be used.

While the Eldar have the benefit of experience, and sheer skill in many cases, humanity has the benefit of numbers. While they could traverse the Webway easily enough, taking and holding a given location was… difficult. They were having trouble manning enough of an area to clear the Webway beyond the sector surrounding Quenya and Thernus, though the entrance in Ivanor has apparently been rife with recruits drawn from adventurers who want to prove themselves ever since news of it became known.

Humanity, however, had no such problems. With the combined military of over a hundred planets, each of which had billions of people on average, even a single tenth of a percent of the population was a billion people, thousands of times the force the Eldar could spare. In addition, Bastion soldiers were much better equipped than most current human forces, further multiplying their impact.

PDF Contribution: 2715/10= 271.5 + Champion Bonus: 375/10= 37.5= 309*10=3090.

250 to take a sector's worth of Webway. Additional 50 to hold. 10 nearby sectors' Webway now under Bastion control.

The massive span of space the soldiers took, despite the occasional small horde of Daemons, was impressive, and allowed the Eldar of Quenya to begin work on stabilizing the Webway in the local section of the galaxy. It would have stabilized relatively soon anyway, but the better health of the section under The Bastion's control would help it recover more quickly nearby, which would in turn reduce the difficulty in holding the Webway, allowing for further expansion.

The real rewards, as far as most were concerned, were the connections to a fairly large number of human planets, and a couple xenos-held ones, which would allow you to begin exploring those sectors from multiple points, and potentially gut the Waaghs early.

Information, Non-Aggression, Full Alliance and Allegiance Checks Autopassed. * 20

4580/6400 to Level 55. Currently possess 12 Perk points.

With your technology, the local almost universally welcomed you with open arms. There were 4 exceptions. 3 worlds with Chaos having infected the ruling caste, and a fourth under actual assault by Orks. Luckily, this was a relatively low-tier Waagh, without even having a significant section of the sector under its control. Therefore, your troops were able to provide enough of a fight for you to arrive, kill the Warboss, and force the remainder of the Orks to flee.

It only took as long as it did because you were preoccupied with rooting out those Chaos cults, 1 Slaaneshi, 2 the mutation/scheme-prone one. You really ought to ask Father about that one. Subtle was more dangerous than direct at the moment. On the bright side, the locals of Fynjio were quite grateful.

Meanwhile, you have a stroke of immense good luck, and discover a Forge-World with a goldmine of minor STCs.

Of note are 3 Deathworlds, Jurasia, which contains huge lizards, some of the apex predators rivaling humans in intelligence, which appears to have been a research site of some kind before the Age of Strife. That's what the fragments of data that could be extracted from the few computers the locals had managed to protect said, at least.

Aquarius, which is an oceanic Deathworld that the Old Ones apparently tested numerous biophages on, to the point where they were forced to effectively sterilize the planet and start over, for fear of a local virus killing everything were it to reach the greater galaxy. Now the viral and bacterial threats weren't any more dangerous than the commonly-inhabited parts of the rest of the galaxy, though the local fauna and flora were pretty bad, especially in the depths, since the planet had been converted to a more 'conventional' Deathworld later on. With its size sitting at 3.7 times the average inhabited planet, it could, however, provide a great deal of space for aquatic races.

The third world, Hozris, was of great interest to the Mechanicus, as there were mechanical simulacrums of animals, apparently of varieties commonly found on Terra before the AoS. Once they'd made certain that there were no Abominable Intelligences amongst the machines (few exceeded the average cat in intellect, and those were aberrations) they began discussions, both theological and scientific, with the local machine cult, which, despite what one might expect, didn't have roots in a Mechanicus Ark. Instead it was a home-grown cult that worshipped machines, noting that some of the eldest machine animals had been around since shortly after the AoS began, and considering that a sign of technology's superiority to organic evolution.

Reward: 20 planets added to The Bastion, totaling 122, In-roads made in nearby sectors, specifically, the 8 surrounding you on the 'plane' and the ones directly above and below you. 1 of Sector Waaghs broken early.

Petty STCs has been upgraded! Knowledge of The Ancients. While the Ancients didn't know everything, they knew a great deal. To the point that they used technology in day-to-day life that wouldn't be found in the most advanced laboratory. This manifests in a great number of blueprints for everything from car parts, to missile launchers. +250 to PDF rolls. +250% to industry. +250 to morale rolls.

Government Departments Established has been upgraded! Governmental Departments Established. Will grow and split off smaller organizations meant to serve more specific functions as growth continues. 100 Integration actions may be taken per Turn. 24 Free Integration actions per Turn. 12 Free Survey action per Turn.

Access to Webway expanded! Access to Webway. The Webway is a network of Wraithbone tunnels which span the galaxy much like blood vessels. Many worlds important to the Old Ones and Eldar will have a gate on them. Currently accelerates troop/good movement somewhat across a 3 by 3 grid of sectors surrounding Thernus, and one directly above and below..

AN: Slaanesh was planning to guide the Orks to planets they could conquer, essentially guiding their ramping up until they had enough of the sector under their control to become a threat. This would have reduced their time in the Warp between planets to weeks, if not days. That 7, thanks to the bonuses to your background rolls here, provided by both your combat and psychic prowess, actually saved you a lot of trouble in the long run. Lucky it was above a 5, otherwise you'd have been too late to keep them from sacking the planet, though anything above a 1 would have let you deploy enough troops to keep them contained on-world.

My guess is Mortarian. He's fairly far away so we can't meet him early and get into his good graces at a young age

That is not actually true, and you already said why in the same paragraph:

uses the Eldar Webwaytm

That thing is OP.

Hell, couldn't we just go visit dad once it stabilizes in what? 5 years?

unless your tech is advanced enough to make the Necrons say 'How the bloody hell did you do that?!'

...Ringworlds~.

Imagine the Tau spreading out where the vast majority of rivals/threats are marginal or non-existent. To truly make the Tau an existential threat to the fledgling Imperium, give them Warp Drives or improve their stutter-warp/ other types of ftl drives speed so that it is competitive with Warp drives.

...The Beast approv.

So is this a cross between our Mechanicus and the actual scientists who put work into discovering and creating new tech?

I'm surprised that we were able to convince Russ we weren't a daemon in one conversation...

It would have been funny if he'd refused to speak to us until we could meet him in person. It would've been a great side-quest, too! XD

Oh shit, the orks are going to be packing moon-sized ships :V

Jurassic Park got upgraded with man-smart raptors? Sweeeeeeet.

Other people noted the Jurassic Park and Horizon: Zero Dawn references. I'm guessing this is Subnautica?
;)

Also, Russ actually using "wolfin'" made me laugh. TTSD always makes for a good reference.
