They seem to be voting under the assumption that we're invincible. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure our armor isn't "colony drop" grade, and it certainly isn't "point-blank Eclipse Cannon" grade.

I mean, it is an option, so I assume it's technically possible for us to slow it down.
I'm not too concerned about our ability to slow the descent. I'm concerned about the big monster that absorbed the station in canon, which I wanted to get sensors to spot better and such to aid the fight against it.
