Aiding the E.G.G.M.A.N. (Sonic)

Which is still close enough for them to come to the "he has an assistant now" conclusion, because why else would he go to so much trouble to hide this one specific badnik?
That's our perspective talking. Sonic and co would just think is another bot Eggman can bark orders at.

Until now, the only occasion where someone could deduce that Eggman has assistance was during the fight in the Egg Carrier. Since Tails was there and he could identify that the Badnicks were somewhat organized due to everything happening and the lack of Eggman voices coming out of speakers trying to mock GUN's forces, something quite out of character from him.

But right now there is no indication that Tails or anyone suspects that Eggman has a capable assistant or that we were responsible of many things already, like the destruction of Tails' Workshop.

So for the satellite they would just think "Well damm, how many bots Egghead has?!"

You aren't looking at things the right way here. Try thinking of it this way:
  • Eggman has hidden some new badnik over there, instead of throwing it into battle with Sonic and company. Why would he do that if it wasn't a particularly important non-combatant, or at least a machine that can't do its job if everyone knows about it?
    • That in mind, what kind of non-combatant would Eggman even want, aside from something to help him come up with new schemes?
  • Eggman has been suspiciously productive and competent over the last couple incidents (he even predicted Chaos double-crossing him, which he's normally too arrogant to consider as a possibility, and created a machine specifically to serve as a countermeasure). Almost as if he's in two places at once...
    • Easiest solution: He really is in two places at once, due to creating an AI second-in-command.
  • The Egg Pawn is honestly kind of suspicious in itself, if you squint: A radical departure from all previous designs, both in appearance (it doesn't resemble an animal, but doesn't quite look enough like Eggman either) and in the underlying principles (it is the first mass-produced badnik that does not need an animal to power it).
    • That Eggman uses it indicates it's still Eggman Empire tech, but the differences are glaring enough that they might start wondering if someone else designed it using his tech-base.
edit: It's true that Sonic would probably just dismiss it, like you said, but Tails is another story entirely; he knows how Eggman works, so he knows
how out-of-character some of his stunts in the Adventure era are. He's also the type to actually stop and think about things, and Sonic listens to him. This makes Tails the biggest threat to us, specifically, because he's the one most likely to take the above points and use them to infer our existence (which, incidentally, justifies our animosity towards him all on its own).

Don't mind me, I was just inspired to write a GUN-POV omake of the latest update.

Meatgrinder Evaded

A GUN commander scowled at the walls surrounding the defaced pyramid that Eggman had commandeered as his headquarters for this operation. It had taken some work to track him here, after that debacle at Fort Ox, but following the command units had paid off. Now they just needed...

"Sir!" Right on time, there was the scout. "I have two things I need to report right now, Sir."

"Start with the confirmed defenses, soldier," the GUN commander ordered.

"Yessir." The scout paused to lay out a rough map of the enemy base before continuing, "As you can see, there are at least two layers of walls surrounding the enemy installation- probably more."

"Why haven't you confirmed this, soldier?" the commander questioned.

The scout pointed to a red X on the map. "Because our scout drone was shot down by concealed anti-air emplacements; given the angle of attack, the most likely location is... here." He shook his head before adding, "It's unlikely that we've found all of them, though we do have an estimated effective range."

The commander sighed. "I suppose incomplete information is better than none... What else were you able to find before you lost your drone?"

"First, there were anti-infantry turrets of some kind; they appeared to be attempting to target the drone, but failed to acquire a target lock."

"Sounds well-fortified..." the commander muttered.

"And well-garrisoned," the scout added. "We caught glimpses of what appear to be mass-production versions of this unit from the Chaos incident..." a picture of Gamma joined the map, "as well as a heavily-camouflaged variation of the Egg Pawns, and there is evidence of some sort of burrowing machine present."

"In short, you expect this battle to be a meatgrinder." The commander sighed before adding, "We should probably call in Sonic to take care of this mess..."

"Unfortunately, the second report means he'll probably be too busy for that," the scout denied. "We were able to detect what appears to be a transport shuttle leaving the pyramid's airspace on an orbital trajectory. Most likely, Eggman is no longer present."

"Eggman's not even here?!" the commander demanded, standing up and slamming his hands onto the table. "Fine, tell HQ that Eggman has escaped to space, and arrange a shuttle for Sonic to pursue him! We're withdrawing- we don't have the forces to deal with such a heavily-fortified base without him, and I'm not wasting our assets on a futile attack!"

Got the infosheet updated with the winning desert base fortification options.

Question for @undead frog : Do you want me to put the options to develop the satellite on the infosheet? On the one hand, we're making improvements to the thing, but on the other hand we're doing choose-one instead of point-buy for this vote, so I'm not sure if you want it tracked as research or not.

Adding jet boosters to the satellite ensures that the only way Sonic is going to be able to come after us is as Super Sonic where he can fly and survive space.

[X] A shield generator.

As much as I want the ability to get out of the way of trouble, that ability would pose the risk of tipping our hand too soon. A shield generator is a safer choice.

AU options
Going to close the vote now but as a nice little side bit have a little bit of what some AU versions of this quest would be like.

GUN: Here instead of dealing with Eggman you'd be dealing with various GUN branches each of which would have different wants and desires. Categories of reaserch would involve personal equipement for the soldiers, robot lines, vehicals in general, and of course mechs like the bigfoot series. I would probably include a sort of 'casualty' list as well possible seperated into humans and mobian if wide scale recruitment of mobians happens as an event.

Stoybooks (Black Knight) The players take control of Merlin whom in this will be the Black Knight verses Eggman counterpart after their entire home was thrown into the mainline universe. These would center around a mixture of things and have a variety of options including gathering more knights of the round table, creating homuncli like the fake king arthur in the games, and finding a way to help the kingdom survive in the sonic universe when the bulk of your armed forces to start with are medevil human peasants and the occasional knights of the underworld.

Ark Survivor: The players take control of a survivor from the ARK incident focused on what some theorize Eggmans OG goal was (Basically Out Heaven for Scientists) and decently sized trasnhumanist bent. This route would focus on some of the weird sciences and would include being able to create a char based on an earlier concept for Shadow, critical chaos, and even the ability to further iterate on the biolizard.

Black Arms: You are now stranded, everyone hates you, and your all powerful leader is dead!... have fun!

OOC: Just these for now but I might go into others later or go more in depth on one of these two at some point.

a pity, we could have been a techno-magic society...or the ark survivor (based on the biolizard/critical chaos) would have been fun to think about.

To be fair, the current MC being based off of some cryopod Dr. Eggman found floating in space, and him then tossing the whole thing into a roboticiser, wouldn't actually change all that much.

Doesn't being robotized screw with the persons personality though?
Yeah, but 'unhealthily devoted to Dr. Robotnick' is a pretty good descriptor of the MC's mental state.
Wether it's base form is constructed out of custom parts or roboticized brain bits doesn't really change all that much with the story.

I might do some of em later I'll probably need some time to get the different mechanics set up.

... heck I almost want to maje a joke about this turning into a series of quests that becomes a massive pileup of different factions each of which has different abilities and forms of super science.

But it also makes them never question him and eggbrain does question something about eggman that being metal sonic and keeping the traitor around.

Edit: Well metal sonic hasn't betrayed us yet but eggbrain most certainly doesn't trust him.

Jet Thrusters
[x] Some jet thrusters so you can better control the satellite.

It takes a while to get the jet thrusters installed.

Egg Pawns are at least halfway decent at a lot of things, modifying a satellite in orbit is apparently not one of them.

An Egg Pawn falls from orbit and burns up on reentry.

Correction, it was definitely not one of them.

And another fell.

This is going to be a recurring incident isn't it?

You get your answer in the form of a third Egg Pawn falling.

And then two of them smacked right into each other somehow managing to knock one of the two out.

Still they eventually manage to get the thruster installed even if the process was a major ordeal.

Hopefully things will cal…. Is that?

The Space Colony Ark is falling!

Your creator is on the Ark!

What do you do?
[ ] Fly by and try to extract him.
[ ] The satellite is durable and you had the thrusters installed for a reason… time to get into a shoving match with a space station so your creators' plans can succeed.

No option to let him bit the dust?/s

I would rather the ARK not crash and destroy earth, Eggman still wants that place after all!
