No, you would be going after the Biomancer first and foremost and if you can intercept him before Black Thorn you will. The treasures are secondary or even tertiary objectives.

In comparison, going after the treasures you will only try to kill him if he comes into town while you are still there and you think you have an opportunity.

Well that's good to know.

If we voted to go for the treasures first, once they're secured could we the players choose to stay in town and try to seek an opportunity to kill him?

@Academia Nut what's the constraint on us sending two teams to accomplish both? I figure if we send a secondary team of Jaegers on treasure-gathering, they can get to safety by just walking off into the forest, and have a full extraction arranged for later.

My immediate thought would be needing one or more people expert in the Grave Keeper Quest along with the party. The tests for the other items may not be as simple as "here you go", and their locations (within the city) may need finding in the Memoirs etc.. I'm not actually sure if there's anyone better qualified at that than Mirande, or if our mum brought any other Grave Quest experts with her for that matter.

it'd definitely be a B-team situation, no denying that. still, if we fumble the assassination and survive, having a decent chance the guys at blackthorn succeeded would be nice.

Well there are a few who have already been sniffing around Blackthorn right? If the Jaegers hook up with those people, maybe...? I admit Mirande would be way better at it.

She's also probably the only person who can kill the Biomancer, though.

Yeah, but they may not still be there (the update where they were mentioned was a while ago), and they also apparently haven't found anything despite having been looking for a while. I don't love our chances of both finding one of them, and then them being able to do in days what they've failed to do for the last few years. I guess it's not impossible though.

No argument on the Biomancer. Well, Mags might be able to, I guess, but I don't think it would be a great idea to send him to do it alone.

If I thought it was a decent chance I'd be less conflicted, basically.

The problem is we're possibly facing someone with post-human intelligence with superhuman troops, which we haven't been before.

He said we were in an acceptable place to start learning. That;s not the same as her body being in an acceptable place

I'm also not convinced he would be willing to fix Mirande's problems for her by assuming direct control. They body would also be very unfamiliar to him and he may not be able to use Momento Mori.

I could see Kebhon taking over being how a fate point interrupt to save Mirande could work though.
Kebhon told us we would probably finish our apprentice training in 'a few years' as in, far less than the tentative guess of ten that AN shouldered us with initially. Everything in us is ready.

As for the other posts you've made thus far, holy crap are you being pessimistic. I can sum them up by saying 'oh woe is us, all of our options are total crap and will doom us to failure, why oh why didn't we have the amazing powers of hindsight.' Get your head out of the gutter, man, you're an active debater and poster and this kind of attitude affects others. Assassination is not doomed to failure, but there is a risk of it. I propose that we deliberately attempt both since AN so helpfully provided the information:

[X] Attempt an assassination and send a small commando team to secure the tech from Black Thorn first

Even if they most likely will fail, it still mitigates some of the possibility of poor rolls on the assassination by rolling well in that area. There is almost literally no real downside to sending both other than maybe needing two Ukkos to do it and being slightly more noticeable.

Discussion looks like it's dying down, so I might as well use this opportunity to ask something while we wait on the update.

What do you all think the rest of advanced sins, tempered, sins, combined vices, and combined virtue/sins are called?

Sticking to traits that are actually supposed to exist in the system:

Sloth -> selective idleness, sloth/diligent = efficient, sloth+gluttonous = indulgence, gluttonous-> refined ravenousness, gluttonous/temperate = tasteful, greedy -> targeted ardor, greedy+envious = avaricious, greedy/charitable = directed philanthropist, envious -> driving envy, envious/kind = inspiring consideration.

Awwww, you ruined it!

It's going to be hard to convince anyone from either camp to switch between treasure or killer. People who picked assassinate want to roll the dice, and people who picked treasure want to avoid rolling the dice. Crap, this is going to be another one of those stalemate rounds...

Huh, assassination got more support than I expected. 20 - 19, before vote weighting.

Oh oooh, I haven't voted yet! Convince me! I also haven't paid attention to any if the other arguments so you get a blank slate.

Edit: just noticed this:
  1. Thread policy: Reduce Spaghetti, read arguments carefully, remain calm.
HOW DO I REMAIN CALM WHEN THEY WANT ME GONE!?

Haha, I won't do much to convince you. The situation seems to be that we either try to risk poor dice and assassinate the biomancer right now, with a possibility of also taking the clues he found(and a much smaller possibility of picking up the clues in Blackthorn), or we take the mostly-safe route with low dice risks and just grab the Blackthorn clues and run like hell, with a small possibility of 'I accidentally the biomancer.'

Right now I just want to vote the 1.2 option to make things even closer/more tense.
