Pretty much, yeah (43% of beating them in one roll each with the first roll having the lesser fortune bonus).
The +40 modifier that they get for CC is what boggles the mind for me really. Did we somehow stumble upon a nest of genestealers because that's the only explanation I can think of for each one of them having an effective Martial score of 30.

Okay disregarding how the mutant has a bonus equivelent to having +20 martial when in close combat and how we don't get any bonus from our training or military gear shouldn't the mutant (and every mutant in that first round) have been suffering from the -40 can't block modifier? Also why the hell did we just Leeroy Jenkins our way into this situation?

What they did to us through our carapace armour suggests the mutants are pretty seriously superhuman. Even the flak components are very hard to penetrate.

I also doubt they tried to block, as they had no weapons.

@Academia Nut does a reroll not apply at all at any point during the turn?

Also kinda unfair we had no choice about how we wanted to fight (if at all) here and are most likely going to be imprisoned now.

Never rolled 10 our under, so no. I will also edit in more about why Mirande thought this was the most sensible course of action. She wanted to make sure her target couldn't run before she got to him.

@Academia Nut Why didn't Mirande start pushing for the +40 bonus on Memento Mori as soon as that thing started getting a few good shots in on her?

All she needed to do was make contact. Sadly these things only dodge since they don't block with their hands, twisted though they may be. A failure by ten would be enough to kill instantly, even while getting injured in the exchange.

I seriously hope this doesn't somehow cripple or kill us because I'm going to be salty as fuck at you if it happens. Let the players make these kinds of stupid decisions, hell I'd probably have gone right ahead with the sword plan. The problem is that we weren't given a choice on how to deal with this situation and now we're royally fucked.

Eh, I'm fine racking it up to a lack of experience actually losing combat. Hang with Khorne's guys, kill two daemons, and blow up a few fortresses and you get cocky.

Hopefully she'll learn from this.

It's hard for a man to run if you shoot them in the foot first.

The decision is particularly bizarre if you consider that Mirande's odds of a clean victory seem to have actually been pretty poor.

Mirande if she survives will not be crippled we spent all that money on a med cart with cloning technology, also we have a doctor with us.

Big if.

The only possible benefit I'm seeing here is that we might get the chance to get closer to the leader right away (assuming they don't know a lot about who/what we are), rather than having to engage in an extended cat and mouse game.

Depends on your definition of crippled. Its a Chaos cult, they could do all kinds of fucked up shit to her that would push her Corruption through the roof, resulting in her being crippled spiritually. Oh, or a bad end in which she eats Dandriss using her full power of Sorcery. Can't forget that one.

Haha wow. I went on a trip, then got busy with life and...heh.

Well, nice. So, what were these guys, secretly gene-stealers? They were secretly genestealers, right? Right?

Man, I get the feeling that if I had actually been involved with all of the stuff like the Changer of Ways, I'd be upset, but as is...this is just kind of farcically amusing. Like a naked dude with a rubber chicken beating up a knight.

Chaos wounds or corruption, whether on the body or soul, have this nasty tendency of... not going away.
If the wounds made by a random mutant caused eternal corruption then the Imperial Guard would never win a battle.

He gave each mutant the equivalent of 30 Martial, one trusted lieutenant I could understand but even with a Primaris level Biomancer pulling the strings the mutations should have never been so uniform and potent. Especially seeing as how we didn't get any sort of bonus from our blood going "suddenly lava" when we were engaging in CQC.

What? I'm not talking about the mutants we've already killed but the guys that are going around torturing everybody for fun and slurping out parts of their brain as well as their compatriots, including a psyker or two.

You know if we do end up captured and strapped to a table my reaction is going to be to use all the goddamn Sorcery, because honestly after all the bullshit Ramsey Snow's been up to recently I'm in no mood to tolerate yet more torture porn.
Well, pride went before the fall. Especially ironic with the name of the sword...
I wouldn't be nearly so pissed off about this whole thing if we had voted for it, preferably with severe weighting against it. Instead the patient, humble precog whose fury is like the Eye of the Storm decided to rush a bunch of combat-specced mutants in CC.

It's mental damage from falling into the hands of the enemy psyker that is truly concerning.
Why would she be in the hands of the psyker? There were three types of people here; slaves, the mutants, and the handler of the mutants. Currently the handler is without his mutants, and very likely no weapon so I doubt bad things (other than current injuries) are going to result long term from this. Bad things will likely end up happening to the handler though, hopefully it doesn't result in his death.

You will take Momento Mori, a pistol, and an anti-materiel rifle and scout through the woods to reconnoitre the city. You have a radio powerful enough to at least get simple code through the forest, although you hope neither you nor the rest of your expedition will need to use it.
We also had a pistol on us that we didn't use.

People are getting a little overly-worried. Granted, a bad roll taking us out in a combat we didn't actually get to choose as players is irksome, but it's not end-of-the-world. Maybe with a DM who's one of the "I glory in the excuse to do edgy and horrible things because I'm a deviant sadist" types (in which case we'd wake up our sorcery nullified, drugged to the gills and being gang-raped), but AN is not that.

1. In a face-to-face scenario, Mirande's divination is almost certainly available at full tilt.

2. Deliberately triggering the timeskip is a viable possibility.

3. She refrained from using sorcery here, but the option exists when she wakes up.

4. There's a single overseer who just saw us obliterate the trio of mutants and a bunch of serfs. Note that he's not very likely to have convenient reinforcements and has pretty limited ways of dealing with Mirande without his beasts. I wager we wake up tied up, maybe gagged and blindfolded, while he uses physical intimidation to keep the serfs working himself.

5. The serfs may take the opportunity to either bolt (leaving us back with #4) or overwhelm the overseer (in which case its either a "tend to our rescuer" or wander off or what-have-you situation).
