Aes Sedai Quest [Wheel of Time]

"What, this? This is nothing. Not any difficulty at all!

On an unrelated note, my everything hurts. Ow."

The Seven Ajahs, 2
You flop onto the table. "What, this?" you say, looking at your hands. Light, if your mother saw them she'd have a fit! "No, this do be nothing, no difficulty at all." You make a face. "On another note, my everything do be hurting. Ow."

"Same here," Rielin says, "my back especially. I've spent the last two hours organizing books in the library." She sighs, slow and heavy. "There are a lot of books in the library."

The door swings open, and Rielin stiffens as she turns to see who your teacher for this lesson is. Following her example, you immediately realize why; the Aes Sedai who just entered, a pretty, plump woman with dark eyes, is wearing a shawl fringed in bright red. You swallow nervously. Even before coming to the Tower, you were familiar with the Red Ajah's reputation - they are the Aes Sedai hunting male channelers, capturing them and gentling them before they can harm themselves or others. From all you've heard, they tend to be rather... severe.

This woman doesn't look very severe, though, smiling politely as she takes her place at the front of the class. "Good morning-" she starts to say, only to be interrupted by the bells tolling midday. She waits patiently for them to quiet down before she continues, amusement on her face. "Good afternoon, I should say. My name is Pevara Sedai, and I will be your instructor today."

What follows is an enjoyable class. Pevara Sedai does a general overview of the Seven Ajahs, their formation, notable accomplishments of each throughout the history of the White Tower (and sharing a few light-hearted anecdotes). Some of it you have already been taught by your tutors back home, but a lot of it is new material, and the Red sister is a funny and engaging lecturer.

It feels like five minutes rather than an hour and a half has passed as she dismisses the class, and so you're surprised when Rielin groans under her breath as you leave the room. "Light, I thought it'd never end," she mutters, rubbing at her face.

[x] That wasn't so bad, Rielin. I could listen to her for a bit more, if it all passes that fast.

"That was no so bad as you say, Rielin," you laugh, tucking a lock of hair behind your ear. "I do think I would no mind listening to her for a bit more, if it all do pass so fast."

Rielin makes a face. "I came to the Tower to learn how to channel," she grouses. "Not how to scrub pots or write until my hand cramps. I could do all that back in Saldaea, if I wanted."

"It do be a matter of time, that is all." You bump your shoulder into her elbow; Light, but she is tall. "You will see. Come, let us be finding what do be the next thing for us to do."

It's been a week since you arrived in Tar Valon, and even in such a short time, you feel like you've settled in quite nicely. You've made friends, you've been doing well in your classes so far, you've established a routine - or rather, you've had one established for you by the Aes Sedai, and you fall face first into your bed every single night from exhaustion. The White Tower and its grand staircases and spacious halls of pristine marble doesn't feel like home yet, but you think it might, and soon.

A few days later finds you both in the gardens again attempting to channel under Leane Sedai's watchful eye, Rielin flopped next to you on her back. It's a cool, cloudy day, and some dew is still clinging to the soft green grass, but you don't mind the damp. You're happy to just sit there, eyes closed, listening to the rustling treetops and the whistle of wind, smelling rain on the air.

You are no closer to embracing than you were that first day, however. You've had this class every single day since, and yet saidar still eludes you. Sometimes you feel it, a warm light at the very edge of your senses... but the moment you try to focus on it, it winks out like it was never there. It's frustrating beyond words, especially when other novices around you succeed one after another, and as you fail yet another time, you huff a frustrated sigh and try again-

"O-Oh," Rielin whispers next to you, and something in her voice makes you open your eyes to look at her. Her eyes are open, too, lit up with wonder, and she's crying, smiling through her tears with such joy- "Lucia, I- it's-"

Leane Sedai hurries over, a warm smile on her face as she kneels down next to Rielin. "There you go, child," she says. "Very good. Now release it."

Rielin shakes her head. "N-No, I-"

"Release it," the Aes Sedai repeats as if she hadn't heard a protest at all, "and attempt to embrace again." She glances at you, her head tilted slightly to the side. "Lucia, it is up to you - try one more time today, or wait until tomorrow?"

[Q] Write-in: Grasp on to that illusive slip of power
-[Q] Wrestle it in to submission
--[Q] Oh crap we channeled Saidin by accident.

[X] Try again
-[X] Do not focus on the warm light at the edge of your senses. Obviously Saidar is shy.

Sound logic!
