Aes Sedai Quest [Wheel of Time]

[X] Leave it be for today

I guess. Trying one last time is the threshold for success in many stories, but...

Saidar is about being at peace and giving in to it. So let's be at peace and give in.

For any channeling, just as a meta thing, the throbbing headache is a sign that you've already overdone it, and don't have the mental energy to really control it well even if you succeed at drawing the power. Aka, do this only if it's succeed or die, because you could very well die from the Power running out of control even if you don't burn yourself out.

Votes are good and nice things. I like to have at least five in a majority.

As a dissenting voice here, I think knowing the feeling when we have overdrawn it might be important instead of just stopping because we are ordered .But then that does not need to happen today.

[X] Leave it be for today

The Real Beginning, 4
With Leane Sedai's warning from before in fresh memory, there really is only one decision you can make.

"I will stop now," you say, soft and tired as you give in. For a moment, you can feel a flicker of light and warmth-

And then it's gone. You must have imagined it.

Leane Sedai nods slowly, and you think you can see faint approval in her eyes. "Very well, novice. Saidar is not something you should try to force, it is not something to be rushed; it will come to you, in time." She claps her hands together. "I believe we will end there for today. Go on, everyone."

"So now it's time for chores," Rielin grumbles as the two of you leave the garden. "I've got scullery duty, again... do you know what you have?"

You shake your head. "No, I no know." You should probably figure out your schedule, actually...

"Well, let's go look at the rotation, then!"

It turns out that you have been assigned to sweep the novice classrooms with a girl you don't know, Marissa Leafwell; Andoran, by the name. "I do no think I have met her yet," you say, lips pursed. "What do you know about her?"

"Marissa?" Rielin shrugs. "She's nice, I suppose, I don't know her that well. A bit of a teacher's pet, and she spends every free moment she has in the library, and she can be kind of a know-it-all... she's been a novice for a couple of years, I think."

Well, you love to read and to learn new things! It will be nice to meet someone else sharing your interests. "Oh, I see."

The two of you part, Rielin swearing under her breath as she makes her way towards the kitchen. You head to the classrooms you have yet to be taught anything in, only to find a dark-haired girl waiting for you there... well, it would be more appropriate to call her a young woman. She's in her early twenties, pretty in a way that you wouldn't remember after five seconds, and she has a little smile on her face as she greets you. "You must be Lucia," she says, the accent confirming that she's Andoran. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Marissa."

[X] Greet her and get to work sweeping, then ask her about the things they teach here besides the Power as you work.

- hopefully if we do this in the next few years we will be allowed to channel or explore the city...

Promoting to Accepted means being permitted to handle the Power on your own, within reason. Unless you're insanely fast track, you usually take a few years as novice though.

There will be a timeskip once you manage to embrace properly, yeah. Aes Sedan training takes a loooong time.

On another note, are there any augmentation weaves? Things that could keep us in peak physical performance and the like. If not, Lucia should probably take up some agility training. I know a Warder is supposed to take care of all an Aes Sedai's sword, but being able to sprint out of danger is always useful.

None in common use. Most of the enhancement weaves don't work on yourself.
You could have someone else warder bond you, but that goes against custom.
Mutual warder bonds might get interesting.

Gonna be a bit longer until an update; I'm in the middle of moving house, it's Easter, I'm going on an excursion on Saturday, swamped with schoolwork, et cetera et cetera. It'll get less crazy in a week or two.

The Real Beginning, 5
"The pleasure do be mine," you say and smile back at Marissa. Her voice is cultured, so you'd guess that she's either nobility or an upper class commoner, it's difficult to tell. You certainly haven't heard of any Andoran House with the name Leafwell, but there are so many minor ones and you were never able to keep track.

"Here," she says and hands you a broom. "You're new, yes? I haven't seen you before. Welcome to the White Tower!"

"Thank you." You take the broom with awkward, unfamiliar hands. "And yes, I did arrive yesterday."

Marissa's eyes are blue-gray and sharp, landing on the clumsy way you're holding the broom. "Ah, I see," she says with a note of satisfaction, as if she just solved a puzzle. "You've never swept before? Here, let me show you how."

The next ten, fifteen minutes are spent with you trying to learn how to sweep a floor properly under Marissa's patient tutelage. You never really thought about how much work goes into keeping a place clean; as the heir to the Morricone House, you were taught how to manage servants and keep them happy and taken care of, but nothing beyond that. Soon, your arms and shoulders are aching, your face red and sweat dampening your skin from the exertion. Cleaning is exhausting. What's worse is that you're not even that good at it. Even once Marissa declares that you've got it down enough that she doesn't need to monitor you, you still notice that she not-so-discreetly passes by where you went and sweeps it up properly.

"So, Marissa," you say as you gather up dust from under some desks, the broom whispering against the tile floor, "what things other than use of the Power do be taught here?" You're more than a little out of breath.

"Plenty of things," she answers, and she's not out of breath at all. "History, governance, the Old Tongue, law, geography, philosophy... really, the Aes Sedai offers the very best education that anyone can get, and they expect you to do your best in return. Did you have specific questions?"

Well, things have finally calmed down. A little. Still drowning in schoolwork.

While not the most enlightened question(I hope someone adds some because I'm falling over sleepy)

[X] Is there a point to all this drudgery? I don't think Aes Sedai need sweeping much.

Would be pretty in character at the moment for a willing, enthusiastic, but confuzzled noble girl

[X]Is the sweeping to keep us humble or to try and make us desire to advance faster? What are your favorite subjects and can we use the library on our own?
